Today Square Enix announced a remake of the classic Seiken Densetsu 2, known in the west as Secret of Mana. Square Enix sent in a press release with screenshots, info, and pre-order bonuses.
Yeah this game sold 1.8 million copies. Most of them sold in Japan except 300 thousand. So I would image they will remake games that sold more (I hope). I was one of them that bought it, I tried making myself like it. It was not my cup of JRPG. But glad they are remaking stuff for others, and eventually me.
I'd love if they remade Parasite Eve 1 and 2, and maybe made a True PE2 Sequel, (Cause no, I don't see the game they made on the PSP as a sequel) they made that one at the time of Square obsessing over melodramatic storylines and idiotic mechanics, like that found in FF7 Dirge of Cereberus too. Those years were Squares' Dark time - when everyone expected them to go bankrupt and die off, with FF13 and FF14 being the final straw to break the camels' back - now look at it all - Square is being triumphant and all the negative, dark pasts are something of the past, Square is getting their shit together.
Vita got Adventures of Mana and now Secret of Mana. All it needs now is a 3D localized remake of Seiken Densetsu 3 and it'll have the complete collection
Makes me want to go back and find all of those portable entries that I haven't played in ages. Children of Mana was one of those underrated classics that I still remember to this day.
I found that the 3DS/Vita combo was a great way to soak in all the JRPG's during their relevant times on the market.
Switch will probably get more as time goes on though if no one else makes another portable, because it'll be the defacto portable people will buy outside of mobile devices.
Did a search on PSN and the pre-order is coming up at $40! That is ridiculous for a remake of a SNES game. As much as I want to be excited, I'm not going to spend $40 bucks on a remake of a game that I already own on SNES and could just get a rom and an emulator to play. Square Enix stay be trying to milk their IPs!
It becomes even more jarring especially when Square Enix released Adventures of Mana on Vita for $14.
They're just price gouging consumers for their nostalgia. This Secret of Mana remake doesn't look anymore ambitious than Adventures of Mana, so it definitely has no business costing nearly 3x as much.
PS4 for me simply needs The Last Of Us 2 and Days Gone to be good for me to put PS4 past the PS2.
The JRPGs this gen is just nuts, Yakuza remake 2 using the Yakuza 6 engine and basically being PS4 only (rumored) will add to 2 current gen Yakuza titles, ON TOP of Sega having ANOTHER Yakuza announcement for TGS by the main team ie Yakuza 7! We are already set to getting the most main Yakuza titles in a generation coming to the west, something I never thought would happen years ago.
Sega even looking to port previous Persona titles (dear god remake Persona 1 like 3,4 and 5) lol
Shenmue 3 FFVII remake KH3 Red Dead 2 and many more already set to make this match PS2, we get 1 or 2 more hype games and imho it surpassed the PS2 in terms of insane content.
Easy. Lots of games are not coming to Switch and might not make it on Switch.
If anything, this might get ported to it so who knows. Nintendo systems statistically miss out on basically the most major IPs out of PC, PS and XB. I don't know what to say, blame it on an install base that 95% legit only buy Nintendo published software.
Look at all the JRPGs that skipped N64, Gamecube, Wii, Wii U etc. Whole series have missed those platforms and can you really blame them? Many have tried, but the install base just favors 1 publisher.....like a lot.
I'd be cool to get a Crystal Chronicles though (underrated FF spin off )
Every dream come true. FFVII Remake, Secret Of Mana. Chrono Trigger next I believe. Thanks Square Enix. Maybe we lost our hope with FF series but you guys giving new hopes for us. (ESL guy here)
This and Kingdom Hearts III are my two biggest reasons for wanting a PS4 of my own right now. My step-bro owns one, but he and his dad filled up the memory quite some time ago and are now uninstalling and reinstalling games constantly to fit things in, so it would be inconvenient to play it on his, hence I need to get my own before this comes out. What I'd really like is to see the Mana collection come to the West on Switch, alongside a Switch port of this remake, though, but since I'm not a console war soldier with a tinfoil helmet, I'll take what I can get regardless of where these land, while still hoping they'll spread out.
I'm still on the fence about that; I owned and played the original KH 1 and 2 to death and back, so I'm not sure I feel like diving into the remixes. Not even sure which one would be best to get at this point even if I did, since I think the "decimal" entries have big variances in their offerings that I need to look into.
Right now I'm leaning more towards 2.5 HD Remix, since as much as I liked KH 3D, I still liked KHII better, and IIRC the KH2.8 doesn't include KHII Final Mix, just DDD and a couple other things.
I know its going to be fun like the last one but is anyone else questioning the artsyle? I wonder why theyre doing this chibi look.. I personally think it deserves better.. Ill buy it because i have the original and im a fan but still
I was incredibly excited for the news at first. I talk about Secret of Mana quite often. It was an amazing game! But then I saw screenshots of the "remake." It looks like a damn mobile game, and not a good one.
F this nonsense. =( I'd rather play the original. I'll get a ROM.
Thank you 😎

I admit, I have some tears in my eyes... first the SNES Classic Mini with the Original, then a remake in 3D in february 2018. Sigh...
this news was out since this morning.. you love to flag others for duplicate.
Great news, still waiting on Legend of Mana
