Never understood how the heck a digital game cost as much as the physical game, should be atleast a 20% markdown.

Aenea2851d ago (Edited 2851d ago )

Then everyone would stop buying physical and game shops would stop to sell them and not long after that they would also stop selling accessories and the consoles...

Besides, around here I usually buy physical games for between €50-55 while digital they are €69.99

letsa_go2851d ago

I get all my games 20% off, either through best buy gamers club or amazon prime. They should be at least 20% off with playstation plus/xbox live because they don't have to ship or manufacture anything.

@let- "They should be at least 20% off with playstation plus/xbox live because they don't have to ship or manufacture anything"

Ok....why would they pass that savings to you?

You might think that makes sense, but why would a developer agree to do such a thing? Their goal is to make money. Trust me, that plastic box and CD are not simply "20%". The cost of such a thing I'd argue is likely below $4....heck likely even cheaper then that.

letsa_go2851d ago

@_-EDMIX-_ Plus shipping from the manufacturing plant to the distribution center, then from the distribution center to the different retail outlets, and the retail outlets have to ship them out to people. I guarantee that server/bandwidth costs are less than that. Also, developers actually get more money from digital sales because the retailers don't have to take a cut.

@Aenea

False, music is available via digital formats in all kinds of media/spectrums yet I still take my ass to the store and by physical copies. Also, because the game is digital doesn't mean that stores CAN'T sell it... they can sell the digital voucher code just like Amazon does. So Idk where you are going with that, your example is super flawed.

Aenea2850d ago

@CHEF

Ahhh, because you will still get physical means everyone else is as well????

There is a reason the prices are the MSRP prices in the digital stores on the consoles, so tell me, what is the reason? And don't just say "greed" 'cos that will make you look silly...

Because game companies need retailers to sell their games. If they cut the price of the digital version, Gamestop/Walmart/Target could just say f- you, we are not putting your game on our shelves anymore. Even if its the same price though, buying digital is still better since more money ends up in the hands of the developper instead of distributer/retailer.

Can't trade in digital games

_-EDMIX-_2851d ago

Agreed.

The vast majority of gamers buy their games at retail. Also consider they are still paying Sony and MS to distribute or Valve in terms of Steam on digital. They are not putting those games on PSN or XB or Steam free of charge, its actually at a cost.

If Hellblade Senua Sacrifice with its gorgeous visuals was.sold for $30.00 imagine if all.AAA games went that route that will be amazing

letsa_go2851d ago (Edited 2851d ago )

So why isn't gamestop or walmart upset that best buy or amazon sell new games for $47.99? Why aren't they mad about Xbox Game Pass or EA Access?

Vhampir2851d ago

Ironic that physical copies are marked down 20% if you buy from amazon or best buy.

Psychotica2851d ago

Why? It's the same game. The disc and packaging costs near zero for the manufacturer because they buy in huge bulk quantities. I am surprised they don't charge more for the digital copies because you are paying for the convenience.

_-EDMIX-_2851d ago

lolz

you thought the big game companies were your friend? They are not going to pass that savings on to you buddy

Ehh no, it's not sooner than I thought, I expected it to release this Fall. Then again, Spring might be better for my wallet!

Prince_TFK2851d ago (Edited 2851d ago )

Hyped! Can't wait to find out more about the game. Hope they improve the game over the first one, especially regarding the very dulled map.

That's great, Oblivion Remastered already on sale! Think I'll jump in.

I feel like Lunar Remastered should have been included on this one too though.
