Harry Kalogirou at GameCloud writes: "It’s hard to say whether or not Matterfall is another definitive win for Housemarque. It’s a concept that’s executed so well, and it perfectly encapsulates what makes this cathartic arcade genre so fun. At the same time, however, it fails to live up to titles like Resogun and Nex Machina that came before it due to a lack of additional game modes and addictive score attacking. Its platforming is well-designed, for the most part, boss fights are innovative, and, most importantly, it’s just damn fun to play casually. It’s a beautifully vibrant and colourful side-scroller with a killer soundtrack that has a truly delightful first playthrough as you explore its varied environments. However, if you play Housemarque titles for their longevity, I can’t fully recommend Matterfall unless you’re willing to stick with its sometimes arduous nature and lack of content."
Amazon has discounted several PlayStation 4 digital games by as much as half off, including Blood Bowl 2, Layers Of Fear: Inheritance and Matterfall.
GameCrate: " The sci-fi is heavy in this edition of Play These Indies. This time, we'll be taking a look at the on-rails action of Gridd Retroenhanced and, not one, but two Housemarque titles, Matterfall and Nex Machina."
Player 2 takes on the latest bullet-hell shooter from arcade masters Housemarque. Does it live up to their impressive legacy?
At least its out. Imagine if Housemarque had the development schedule of Studio MDHR?
This is their fourth game this gen along with quick ports of Deadnation for PS4 and Resogun also coming over to PS3 and Vita. Solid little developer.
I hope Cuphead isn't "lacking content" because it won't have been worth the insane wait if it does.
