It's a matter of days before the event of gamescom 2017 start, which is why Microsoft decided to talk a little bit more about what's cooking for this event.

With the Scalebound cancellation and now Crackdown´s delay, i hope they have some heavy weight announcements to make. Still excited for the X. :)

Bigpappy2868d ago (Edited 2868d ago )

Would be nice to have some new exciting 1st party. Showcasing games doesn't mean 1st party, even though we will see Forza and Sea of thieves. But as Woolly keeps saying: it's all about me getting an X.
I am sure there will be more that enough games to hold me over. Don't expect anything new this year from Gamescom. But if they do there is no guarantee it would be something that interest me. I then to like well done big games.

ONESHOTV22868d ago (Edited 2868d ago )

Bigpappy----so you are saying that the only reason to buy a console is that for first party games? or the 400$ I spent on hardware would be useless? and lol because the last time I checked I didn't buy the PS4 to play any first party games so think about how your logic is flawed.

Razzer2867d ago

Apparently, Oneshot bought a PS4 so that he could not play any PS4 games. That is the logic in his head so....

Shin-Zantetsuken2867d ago (Edited 2867d ago )

@ONESHOTV2

So why did you buy a PS4 if not to play exclusive games?? I am genuinely curious because you can play multiplat games anyhere including Xbox and PC. Similarly why would you but an Xbox if not for exclusives because multiplats can be played on PS4 and PC?? What is the point and logic of buying a console and especially multiple consoles if not for exclusives? Consoles are all about exclusives because multiplats can be played anywhere and they work much better on PC. Man fanboys sometimes dont even think what they are saying when they are in defense mode. Lol

darthv722867d ago

I bought the ps4 for single player games and the xbo for multiplayer. Neither were based on exclusive games alone.

LandoCalrissiano2867d ago

Shin, you buy an Xbox for the multi-player community, the same reason the 360 was so popular.

freshslicepizza2868d ago

They need to in order to ignite more interest. E3 showed no new games from them outside of Ori and the Blind Forest 2.

yeahright22867d ago

Gotta say I like this new moldy. far more objective and makes points that will help xbox rather than blindly praising them no matter what.

good on you sir.

Kingthrash3602867d ago

Lol I know huh....finally he sees the true way to help xbox

LandoCalrissiano2867d ago

Seriously? I think you need to re-watch e3 if all you got out of it was Ori and blind forest 2

2868d ago
_-EDMIX-_2868d ago

Based on their recent performance, I don't really know how much to expect great things. I'll still watch what ever they have at Gamescom, but I'm not holding my breath.

ULTp0ltergeist2868d ago

Well, what better way to announce a Crackdown 3 delay right before a potential event of great news? Or it's just one way of mitigating as much damage the delay has caused with a lot of mediocre news.

MatrixxGT2868d ago

If the US was my strongest market i would have used E3 to announce the best news. I wouldnt hold your breath for anything outside of "already known about" games, bundles, maybe some more UI features.

Godmars2902868d ago

They have to. Thing is when will they come out?

notachance2867d ago

am I the only one excited they gonna have an announcement for Age of Empires?

obidanshinobi2867d ago

LOL.
Heavy weight announcements ? with Phil Spencer at the helm ?
I wouldn't bet on it. Maybe another old PC game debuting on XB before it releases on PS4 a few months later.

+ Show (6) more repliesLast reply 2867d ago
optimus2868d ago

Well the limited edition Project Scorpio version (it actually says it on the controller) just leaked so I'm guessing they will have some bundle with that....I do hope they announce some games that were not announced at E3. At this point they need some good press going into Nov.

Bronxs152868d ago

Man if it's forza sea of theves gears 4 in 4k and more 3rd party games that'll be on PlayStation like anthem or metro it won't be exciting at all.

Hopefully first party has been working on things. Maybe see a new gears or halo if that's the case. That's all they really have 😕

MatrixxGT2868d ago

I feel like if 1st party had something cooking they would have announced them 2 months ago at E3. Even a teaser would havs suficed if the hadnt been in a state to show off at the time. The US is their biggest market and im sure more people in that region pay more attention to E3 than gamescom.

Bronxs152868d ago (Edited 2867d ago )

@guilty spark
If recore was a big exclusive for my system I wouldn't boast about it either...

Bronxs152867d ago (Edited 2867d ago )

But I will say at this point. Even if they show off something I won't be too excited. Because they showed off:
scalebound and it never materialized.
Recore: nothing to brag about. i hated it. People try to give it a pass saying it launched at a lower price. But uncharted lost legacy is also launching at a discounted price and is miles ahead in every way.
Sea of thrives: unexciting to me. I'm not big into multiplayer. I don't even have ps plus
Master chief collection: launched broken
Crackdown: originally showed off how long ago?? Still not out.
Halo 5; worst story campaign by FAR in any halo
Cuphead : can only maintain excitement for so long. How long ago was this showed?

Point is even if they show off something, with the track record this gen I'm skeptical of them

All that being said I've really enjoyed gears 4 quantum break ori and the blind forest and sunset overdrive on Xbox one this gen.

rainslacker2867d ago

We know what MS 1st party is working on. Forza, Gears, and Halo. That covers all their studios that are substantial enough to make AAA games.

If MS is working on any AAA games, it's going to be from 2nd party, or purchased deals like they did with Mass Effect back in the day.

hamburgerhill2867d ago

I don't mind 2nd party or deals like with Mass Effect. Would be much better though if the games were strictly exclusive.

indysurfn2867d ago (Edited 2867d ago )

Maybe they will announce SWITCHBOX! Or XSWITCH....... I kid I kid. Please don't kill me!

rainslacker2867d ago

@hamburger

I have no problem with 2nd party games. Things like Spider-man(although that's kind of a 1.5 party thing since they contracted the work), Bloodborne, QB, Bayonetta 2, etc are perfectly acceptable ways to gain an exclusive. The console maker finances the game, and publishes it, so to me, it's essentally the same as a 1st party game without the overheard of maintaining the studio.

Nothing wrong with it, and didn't mean to imply it was bad. At least MS is investing in gaming, and bring value to their system, which is really all that's important.

Your defense force is sad. I'm glad you aren't on XBL. Spoiled whiners are the worst.

Bathyj2867d ago

PlayStation gamers are pretty spoilt. Theyre like rich kids whose parents give them everything. They want for nothing.

Xbox gamers are treated like crap yet somehow mistakenly feel grateful for it. They're more like an abused spouse. They stick out a crappy relationship because they think they can't do better. No one should put up with that.

SirBradders2867d ago

@Bathyj that is so true LMAO

shuvam092867d ago

Hope they will...
I remember that old lady announcing on stage of around 17 1st party titles currently in development...

opinionated2868d ago

They need a miracle. Even my friends that swear by Xbox are skeptical. I'm happy with my custom gears slim but if you having trouble with these guys you know you need to bring out big guns and surprises. Better resolution just isn't enough anymore.

SkippyPaccino2867d ago

Phil isn't even showing up, so I wouldn't expect miracle... Probably just a recap of what's upcoming with most likely a Halo CGI trailer

opinionated2867d ago

Really? It's odd that he won't be there. You would think these shows would be a priority getting ready for a launch. Don't get me wrong I'm super hyped about state of decay 2 and cuphead but are they really going to launch a new console on a 4K assassins creed? AC:O looks great too (finally) but you're going to ride on a third party title? Nah there will be some surprises in the next few months, there has to be lol. Besides a new avatar system..

MFs has been beating their chests over great quarterly results and big profits to shareholders while firing people by the thousands just like Sony.

I wonder if at the top of those rumored layoffs they´ll also cancel upcoming or unannounced games while shutting down more studios as well.

MS bad Sony is also bad lmao

@Blacktiger

Im not offended , that’s just his formula lol
He can’t help help himself, he needs to bring Sony down when the topic involves MS.
Whether is good news for MS or bad, it some how leads to Sony doing bad lmao.
It’s actually hilarious.

He's not wrong but im tracking what youre saying. In this case is should just be MS bad. Thats a lot of people fired

"just like Sony"

Gosh you're insufferable, not everything needs to be both-sides'd. Sony's had layoffs, but nothing like what Microsoft has been doing and is continuing to do.

CrimsonWing691d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

I mean, no offense, but this is why you’re not some corporate business person running a major corporation. Big profits don’t mean jobs are safe. Do you understand why things like this happen:

Cutting jobs to maintain or increase profitability, especially in underperforming divisions like parts of Xbox like other gaming divisions.

Corporate restructuring and relocating resources for strategic stability in ever changing markets and consumer behaviors.

Investor expectations and optimizing operations to maintain investor confidence. Whatever boosts stock prices and improves future margins.

And there’s many other factors at play. It’s never as simple as business doing well, everyone’s safe. That’s just you not understanding at all how corporations work and have been working since the beginning. This isn’t something that’s specific to Xbox, you can bet your ass Sony and Nintendo do this and if it’s not clear by now, game development is not a stable job nor has it ever been for many. A lot of developers are contractors and guess what happens when a project is done?

Ganif1d 6h ago

Nintendo said they have no plans for layoffs, and you can't seriously claim that the scale of Sony's layoffs most of which involved Bungie which is self managed as even close to the same scale as what Microsoft has done since they purchased Zenimax. And that significantly less layoffs would have happened if those publishers had stayed independent. Keep in mind that much of these layoffs have been due to redundancies specifically related to these buyouts.

CrimsonWing691d 6h ago (Edited 1d 6h ago )

@Ganif

Nintendo:

https://gamerant.com/ninten...

Sony:

https://gamerant.com/playst...

https://techxplore.com/news...

I don’t think it’s realistic to treat Sony’s layoffs as somehow outside the norm for the industry right now. Even if Bungie is self-managed, Sony’s cuts went far beyond that like Naughty Dog, Insomniac, London Studio being shut down completely, and multiple teams across the globe took hits. These weren’t just minor adjustments.

Nintendo, I had to look up and you’re right. They seem to be an outlier, but rest assured at some point it happens. And even then there’s been layoffs, albeit a smaller amount and contractors.

Would fewer layoffs have happened if studios from acquisitions stayed independent? Maybe. But even independents have been hit hard and look at what’s happened with Embracer’s fallout, or smaller devs like Digic, Roll7, or Volition. This isn’t just a “Microsoft problem” or strictly tied to acquisitions; it’s a broader correction happening across the whole industry, and unfortunately, layoffs are a big part of that process right now.

Ganif1d 5h ago

From your article:

"According to reports, Nintendo of America restructured its testing operations, leading to layoffs of about 120 contractors, part of a strategy for global integration.

Nintendo of America, publisher of iconic franchises like Mario and Zelda, is shifting some contractors to full-time roles for better development integration."

Contractors are not employees, and even if you want to count them as that, it's 120 people vs around 7500 since Microsoft purchased Zenimax.

In an era of game industry layoffs, Nintendo is hiring more people

Nintendo CEO’s refusal to layoff staff goes viral following industry-wide cuts
"Satoru Iwata took pay cuts to ensure staff didn’t have to be let go"
https://www.nme.com/news/ga...

And as for Sony you're comparing less than 1000 total jobs to an estimated7500

Has the industry faced layoffs, yes, but that still doesn't account for the mass layoffs due to redundancies that was easily predictable, or that fact that at least 1/3 of Microsoft's layoffs and studio closures happened before the industry downturn.

It's like banging your head off a wall, he just can't help himself.

Microsoft can do no wrong, Sony sucks at everything and Nintendo is bigged up because it's less hassle than trying to defend Microsoft all the time

What's going to happen when Microsoft finally turn completely third party, then what?

Sony Faces Class Action in the Netherlands Over Allegedly Inflated PlayStation Store Prices

Mass Damage & Consumer Foundation in the Netherlands has filed a class action against Sony for inflating PlayStation Store prices.

dveio1d 7h ago (Edited 1d 7h ago )

My personal opinion:

Manufacturers and publishers have indeed inflated the industry.

From $700 million development costs for games like Call of Duty, to digital (store) prices for games and DLCs, online multiplayer fees on consoles (why can you play Helldivers 2 online for free on PC but not consoles?) or still preventing sell/lend digitally purchased games.

Sometime in the future, this bubble will collapse.

They should know better, but they just can't help themselves and suck even the last penny out of our wallets.

BeHunted1d 4h ago

Because Sony knows people will be forced to pay those prices for single player and multiplayer games, not everyone prefers PC gaming. Sony also has a monopoly on PlayStation digital games. In 2019, they stopped allowing retailers and game key sellers to sell PlayStation digital games, making them available only through the official PlayStation Store

anast1d 7h ago

The Dutch gov. wants a piece of the pie.

Eonjay1d 6h ago

They should be suing the individual publishers increasing the prices to $80 instead of suing the store. There are plenty of publishers still selling game for like $50 with much success (like E33). But this proves that the publishers are the ones setting the prices.... so again nothing changes because they aren't even going after the main offender. How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD? Sony being the number one store in the market doesn't mean that publisher have to charge us an arm and a leg. Again the industry is laughing at us because consumers never get real representation. Just these fake platitudes that are meaningless.

BeHunted1d 4h ago

"How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD"

Because Microsoft doesn't have a monopoly, I can purchase Call of Duty at a huge discount from CDKeys or other gaming retailers. The only way to purchase digital PlayStation games is through the PlayStation Store.

djl34851d 3h ago

Weird, I swore GoW, Stellar Blade, Horizon Zero Dawn, TLoU, etc. were on the steam store....uh.....

BeHunted1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

@djI3485

I'm talking about PlayStation games that you can only purchase on PlayStation. I can purchase Steam and Epic games from 3rd party retailers and key stores.

"Sony to stop selling full-game download codes at retailers"

https://www.videogamer.com/...

Killer2020UK1d 4h ago

About time. There is zero fair reason why digitally distributed products that you cannot recoup any value when you want to dispose of them, should be priced higher than that of physical copies that entail all of the costs and the benefits of owning.
