J Finally Reviews Splatoon 2 (And Has A Lot to Say)

The original Splatoon was a fever dream in many ways. The last high profile new IP Nintendo fans got their hands on before then was Pikmin, and the thought of using the words "Nintendo" and "shooter" in the same sentence stemmed from nothing but a "What if?", followed by images of some nightmare Smash Bros. spin-off. Splatoon's popularity on the Wii U wasn't just a result “right place, right time” on a failing console. It instantly rose to the upper echelon of Nintendo's premier multilayer franchises, while also subverting and adapting itself into one of the most entertaining multiplayer shooters at first swing. Splatoon 2 is among Nintendo's fastest sequels, and because of that, it's very iterative of its predecessor. However, it brings just enough changes to make it feel like a different and better enough experience while still holding onto some Nintendo-ass limitations.
