Being a nintendo game I'm sure it has fun gameplay and good mechanics!

One of the best shooters out, jokes on you.

Bronxs152882d ago

Really? Aren't shooters normally about precision and accuracy? This seems like a concession shooter for people who can't aim or 7 year olds.

You can't pull of a shot at a moving target? No problem, aim at that wall in front of you or the ground here. Or just fire your gun, anywhere you hit is fine.

@Bronxs15 come on how long have you been gaming? Not all shooters are about precision and accuracy or are real.

Ever played doom, Quake, UT, perfect dark to name a few they were pure fun shooting games and that's what Splatoon is only a 3rd person shooting game. Its not for you that's fine we all like different types of games but don't start calling people out because they like it.

@mcstorm
I've been gaming since the NES and I agree, you're right. There's a lot that goes into making a great game (not just a shooter). It's more than just precision and accuracy. Great feeling controls are important. As is art direction, graphics, sound, story, online modes, replayability etc.

It's great the game found an audience and more power to the people who enjoy it. However, I can't personally see it being one of the best shooters out there. Do you rate it that highly? Forget Quake and UT, even when compared to the recent DOOM release. The amazing graphics, art, and technical aspects of it make it a surreal experience you feel like your a part of. While splatoon is nice, it looks like a cartoon you watch and not something that sucks you into it. Then when have games like Halo in the shooter sphere that have went on to create such massive game universes akin to Star Wars, with characters backstory and tons of lore spanning movies and books. Splatoon surely isn't in the list of best shooters out there compared to Call of Duty, which I never played but recognize it has helped shape and define the 360/PS3 era (at least).

So I reserve the right to laugh sometimes when I see the pedestal some fans put Splatoon on compared to what I see the game doing/achieving.

As a side note, I wonder how well the game would have fared if it was not released on a Nintendo platform with a lack of shooters. I feel like with a lack of shooters to compete on the platform splatoon garners some sales as being the default shooter. If Halo, Call of Duty, Titanfall 2, (or other third person shooters) I wonder if users would still be choosing splatoon.

Is this a good time to buy a Switch, or wait till the end of the year? I've been holding off...

Prince_TFK2883d ago

I say go for it if you can find one. At the end of the year many new Switch games will come out (Mario O, Xenoblade, Skyrim...) and it might be impossible to find one.

Plus, right now it a good time to enjoy Splatoon 2 and BOTW before newer games come out.

With Splatoon 2 having just released, Monster Hunter hitting in Japan soon and Super Mario Odyssey hitting in just a couple months, I don't think it will be particularly much easier to find until after the holidays. I was originally going to wait until the end of the year to pick one up, but I realized it wouldn't be any cheaper and I'd have a lot more time to game over the summer, so I caved in and bought one launch day.

I'm excited whenever I see new Splatoon 2 news. Such a great and addicting game.

My daughter played Splatoon 1 until the day before Splatoon 2 came out. She got top rank Queen in the last Splatfest, although she did choose Ketchup over Mayo, she still had a great time. The pacing of unlocks and the changing of the courses are just great. The single player was a lot of fun and has replayability for the finding tidbits. And Salmon Run is a revelation of a game mode.

'Splatoon 3’s' Inkopolis DLC Might Be Nostalgic, But It’s Totally Shallow

o matter what the reasoning is behind Splatoon 3’s lack of content and substance in the first half of its paid expansion, Wave 1: Inkopolis is certainly not worth any fan’s money and should have always been viewed as a small bonus to tide fans off from what’s still to come.
