Destructoid Review: Fracture

Review by Anthony Burch:

"LucasArts' latest game, Fracture, is about deforming terrain and shooting people.

That was the least boring introductory statement I could come up with.

You've read the Jimpressions, checked out the multiplayer preview, and saw that one Penny Arcade comic about it. You've already finished or decided to ignore The Force Unleashed, and you're looking for a decent action game to spend some time with until the higher-profile October releases hit.

Will Fracture fill that void, or is it...

...I was going to put in some corny joke about knocking down someone's sand castle, or the game being a "fractured" experience, but it just isn't worth it. Hit the jump for the full review."

Yup, seems about right to me. this game was as generic as they come. I've seen Si-FI original pictures with more substance and originality than this pile of $#*T.

Typical EA working over time.

Your game must really suck if Operation Darkness and Vampire Rain got a better score!

WOW

2 out of 10....holy crap

They gave the same score to Too Human lol. They speak the truth though. Fracture and Too Human are both horrible.

Played the demo, I thought it deserved a little more than a 2, maybe a 4 or 5..but agree with its mediocrity. Maybe the game is just a victim of timing. A year or so ago, maybe as a Gears fast follower would it probably be better.
Terrain Deformation is nice, but when the reviewer said nothing like its been done before, I couldn't help but think about an old game named Magic Carpet (from Bullfrog) having done TD way back in the mid 90s - not the same way, but in general..and it was very cool at the time. During the demo, all I could think of was... this is all that's new with TD after 10 years? Similarly, the style of grenade throw and shooting, and blur running was similar to Gears.. just 2 years too late.

Last Chance to Play: Fracture

"ZL: The reception was less than underwhelming. Fracture is one of those games that has already been forgotten; “terrain deformation” failed to impress gamers, the struggle between the Pacificans and the Alliance (though I’m not sure who they’re aligned with) inspired no one, everyone hated the main character and the online servers are host to nothing more than tumbleweeds."

Games in a time of climate change

We're well into the first week of August, and the summer's hottest days could be just ahead. There's still a debate being waged over climate change policies proposed to help curb its effects, but in some video game that debate is over and the effects of climate change lead to a bleak future. We speak to Dr. David Robinson, New Jersey State Climatologist and Professor in the Department of Geography at Rutgers University, to find out if these video games' vision of a post climate change future holds more fact or fiction.
