This is astounding. I'll buy a ps4 soon for gran turismo sport and probably help Sony to sell 70 million consoles by November of this year. It's awesome that Sony focuses on making games for PlayStation and releases a lot of quality exclusives which sells a lot more consoles. I like the xbox but it's not a compelling system for rational core gamers like the ps4 that gets a lot of exclusive games. Most Xbox fans are chanting the next sales gimmick and talking about "true 4k" while there aren't any new exclusive games coming. Umm its very common on the internet that Fans comments and show their appreciation, sometimes in silly ways or with too much passion, no doubt. Often PS fans appreciate good news about PlayStation popularity or PS exclusives and Xbox fans have lately shown in profusion their appreciation of the latest Xbox console specs and so-called true 4k. The 63.3 million figure represents units sold to retailers, but not necessarily sales to consumers. Even though latest actual sales number that Sony provided was 60.4 million, a figure the company disclosed during E3 good through June 11, many people will still neglect the fact that this 63.3 million is the total shipped and believe it it to be sold. That would mean these very same people would believe that Sony sold 2.9 million PS4s from June 12-June 30.

Yes the Days of Play sale did help, but Sony sure as hell didn't sell the majority of the 3.3 million PS4s shipped during the entire quarter in the latter half of June.

For that scenario to even make sense PS4 would've had to have sold 400K worldwide during the entirety of April, May, & the first 12 days of June, and we know for damn sure that low number ain't true.

With this logic in mind it's blatantly clear that this 63.3 million refers to the total units shipped.

Sony is projecting 79 million shipped by March 31st 2018. Looking at these figures, I think that's them being very conservative. WW2 is easily going through be the biggest CoD in years, plus Destiny 2, BF2, GTS, and God of War... Sony is going to SELL way more than that. I'd say they'll have sold around 81 million/ 82 million shipped by March 31st.

This is very good for Sony. When you look at the divisions that are making a profit, Playstation brings in the most revenue, but the least profit. It gives you a better idea of the importance or lack of importance gaming actually has for a corporation. Microsofts numbers must be insane when you look at gaming compared to everything else. It's hard to believe 348 billion yen in revenue had a net profit of 17.7 billion yen for gaming. To put this in perspective, imaging products and semiconductors have a combined revenue of 359.9 billion yen and 68.6 billion in profit. That is almost 4x as much profit per dollar of revenue gained. As gamers we like to think gaming is the most important, but in reality it's one of the lowest profit segments.

This is a huge turn around for Sony as a company.

Well, I see this as a two way street of sorts. Since it does involve financials for Sony overall all areas do get highlighted.

Their Semiconductors and Imaging had a great year overall. But in the same instances they're also stating certain parts of their Game & Network Services declined in certain areas which was offset by Semiconductors and Imaging. If you're looking at financials that is one aspect which is evaluated. So to that extent you'd have to wonder why which would include the knowledge that Sony shipped less versus last year plus includes both PS4 & PS4 Pro in an umbrella for numbers on financials.

Not saying PS4 did bad but it would appear certain things did fall off that'd be better to address rather than just write off with another division that was very successful. Doing so would be better for Sony as a whole which includes the above divisions and gaming for consumers as well.

Well if you read the complete article and know a bit on how finance work,they increase the price of PSN to offset the lost of income from the PlayStation business.They sold bellow expectation on software due to the lack of a major first party game exclusives (another reason why exclusives games matter to Sony!) , and they also didn't make the expected money on PS4 hardware due to the cut in price they made to the system they also lost money on the exchange rates.

Maybe you should take a business course. If you read the article you will understand. To continue to spend money on games and the network etc they need to offset where they are not making as much money.
I know you may find this hard to understand but companies have to make a certain amount of profit in order to gain more funding for future projects. Investors need to see this targets reached before they all sign off on ploughing more money in. Companies don't run just to make any profit, they have sales targets which are offset against their costs. The more costs go up (wages, power etc , you know , the economy) the less profit a company will make unless they generate more revenue.
The PSN has been at the same price for years, this is very out of sync with other industry subscriptions. Just be thankful that it doesn't go up every year like 99.9% of all other costs.
If your worried about PS Plus going up every 5 years wait until you hit the real world, boy are you in for a shock.

Easily if Sony keeps doing the same thing with every single generation I believe they're going to continue to get a similar response.

One of the biggest reasons I believe the PlayStation install base is continuing to rise is that the amount of variety from multiple types of gamers is not really skewed towards one genre or the other.

They don't have the stigma or perception of being a system that is made for kids but they also don't have the perception is being skewed as a system that's only for first person shooter type games.

They've been able to avoid having that type of perception in multiple Gamers have multiple reasons for applying a PlayStation.

So if they're able to keep their image extremely neutral in this respect I believe they're going to continue to get the same type of sales support. .

Because the way I look at it is somebody is not buying a Nintendo system because of perception of it being for children.

But someone is also not buying an Xbox for the perception that it does not have many Japanese RPGs or Variety in specific genre.

But I don't believe anybody is not buying a PlayStation because of any of those reasons.

I believe if PlayStation gets toppled by a rival might solely depend on if either of those companies are ready to change their image to support multiple ideas.

Of course sales matter. A dev sees sony selling so many systems and IMO would be more inclined to make their game for ps4. Which shows with all the games coming out for ps4. So yea sony selling a system better then the other companies means a great deal to me.
