Does the Nintendo Switch Need to Be More than Just a Game Device?

The Switch is a wonderfully pure gaming console, but will it eventually need to become more?

It could use some stuff like Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime Video. A Twitch app could be cool too. But I don't think they need to go crazy with apps.

Is it nice to have? Yes.
Is it necessary? No. Because PC's exist.

Not to mention smart TVs are becoming more popular than ever and they already have Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, Youtube on them. I haven't used my PS4 or Xbox for any of those over a year, only for blurays/dvds. There isn't anything wrong with a video game system actually putting video games first because "we have netflix" isn't a selling point anymore.

But I guess you can argue that with the Switch being portable it's still worthwhile to have them on the system.

Tekolie, but the Switch doesn't have mobile data so you won't be able to enjoy Netflix and YouTube on the go.

Yeh but I have a phone that I can use as a hotspot and the Switch has a bigger screen.

There's a bunch of places with free wi-fi these days too so im sure you could find situations where someone could find uses for them.

The switch has a bigger screen, but the screen is most likely not as good as your phone. Plus instead of killing the batteries of both your phone (hotspot) and Switch, Why not just watch Netflix or Youtube on your phone?

No it needs to play games and do that really well.

Everything else is a nice bonus but not "needed".

I don't use the other features really on my PS4 or XB1, so I don't feel the need for them on my Switch either.

My iphone can do all the other stuff.
