AspiringProGenji2883d ago (Edited 2883d ago )

How spot on for me to find this comment after sitting for 5 min to watch my brother play this. It indeed looks like DLC. The menus, UI, and everything looks the same. What is this?

If Splatoon 2 can do it, so can other game

Mr Marvel2882d ago

Not really, as Splatoon 2 is not in the same class grapically.
Nintendo developers are smart and go for style over graphical fidelity as their hardware is always grossly under-powered.

I'm not taking a shot at the Switch though as I've had a heap of fun with BotW and Mario Kart 8.

Raiden2882d ago

This crazy, almost every single game that is created the sequels that follows always look the same, let's look at COD or Battlefield, don't these games look the same, some on here are calling D2 nothing more than a DLC, will if that the case then all games that have sequels should be consider the same, so, when a better technical shortcuts are available only then would you find gaming visual improved in the current generation. So just enjoy the game.

Destiny 2 should run at 60fps 1080p. I know they already stated the "physics are too harsh on the hardware" but seriously, a game like this is so much better at 60.

freshslicepizza2883d ago

That's why it's great they are doing this also on the PC. The game is likely going to be native 4k on XB1X but still 30fps.

Ca23lvin2882d ago

Xbox one x cpu is shit just like the pro locked at 30fps. If your interested in pc build one for 600 or lower to get 1080p 60.

LexHazard792882d ago

No Xhancements remember. Its probably gonna be dynamic 4K/30 just like PS4 Pro.

DarkZane2882d ago

No, the Xbox One X version will be checkboard 4K like that PS4 Pro and they will basically be identical. Expect the majority of third party games to be checkboard 4K on Xbox One X and look identical to ps4 pro as well.

freshslicepizza2882d ago

@DarkZane
"No, the Xbox One X version will be checkboard 4K like that PS4 Pro and they will basically be identical. Expect the majority of third party games to be checkboard 4K on Xbox One X and look identical to ps4 pro as well."

Why should we expect most titles to look identical when the regular PS4 most times had sharper images compared to the regular Xbox One?

kevnb2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

i wanted to get the pc version, but I worry about cheaters considering bungie is inexperienced at dealing with online pc games. The huge delay has turned me off as well.

Lol😭😭😭 ;

PistolsAtDawn2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

It technically COULD be native 4k at 30fps, but they aren't going to put the effort into doing that with a contract with Sony. Sony would be PISSED if they paid money for the deal, then it was better on a different console. Almost certain it will be a copy and paste over. The X1 advantages will just be things like loading times, more consistent FPS, better filtering, etc.

hamburgerhill2882d ago

"I really do think the x1x is being gimped here by the pro"

How so? Wasn't Destiny 1 identical on PS4 and X1 even though PS4 was more powerful?

conanlifts2882d ago

It might not be. The deal with Sony might see it locked at the same specs as on the pro. Personally it doesn't bother me too much if this is the case. The primary concern for me is that it receives some sort of bump on X.

Ju2882d ago

No real problem even if real 4k. It won't look any different than the Pro version. Heck you can hardly see the difference between Slim and XO. One native 1080p the other dynamic. So the Xxx will hit 4k more often. And that'll be that.

0Day2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

You clearly know nothing about internal components. The CPU is a non issue in gaming, 90% of performance is dependent on the GPU. Look at benchmarks between CPU's and you'll see a 4th gen I7 is in most cases less than a 10 fps difference from the newest gen. The only issue here is Bungies poor optimization.

2pacalypsenow2882d ago

A weak CPU can bottleneck the GPU and Ram.

Sircolby452882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

Actually 0Day you are wrong. The reason a 4th gen i7 is so close to a current gen i7 is because they are basically the same. Intel hasn't changed much since then and they are still running basically the same architecture with a few tweaks. It doesn't bottleneck because it is still a fast CPU. The Jaguar cores on the other hand are SIGNIFICANTLY slower than a 4th gen i7 CPU. Even an old 2500k is faster than Jaguar by a large margin. The performance per core on Jaguar is absolutely atrocious in comparison. So the answer is yes the CPU can bottleneck a GPU, but only if it is a crappy one which all of the console CPUs are including the One X. The One X can push resolution for days because higher resolution does not create more of a load on the CPU. Higher framerate on the other hand does.

steveo1234562882d ago

I don't know, it would seem there are more cpu intensive things going on in other games that can get above 30fps. BF1 for example?

combatcash2882d ago

@Ca23lvin
I'm not sure why you received all of the disagrees, this was confirmed by Bungie.
@0Day
Bungie confirmed this game's performance relies heavily on the CPU, and sadly these CPU's are very weak.
Xbox one X will have the same problem, with this game. It would be nice if Intel CPU's were used for the next generation, it would drive the cost up, but it would help with any bottleneck.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 2882d ago
Mulando2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

They really shouldn't argument with physics etc. This game has a static world and is no battlefield where the landscape can be changed and 64 players are on the same map.
I really don't get it why even destiny was so CPU intensive they couldn't handle many players on one map.
maybe it's because they don't want to spend money for extra servers.

But 60 fps is always a compromise with graphics. If you want to squeeze everything out of the GPU and have good graphics you can only go with 30fps in games like this. This is no cpu problem. If the consoles had 4ghz CPUs we still had the problem that the developer would just let it run with 30fps because you can just get more eyecandy in a scene with 30fps.

seanpitt232882d ago

It's the cpu it's not strong enough for 60fps this generation they have gone the GPU route, hopefully next gen they will balance it more. They could have a 10tf GPU in the ps4 pro but would still get 30fps because of the jaguar cpu. The o ly way they could hit 60 is if they downgrade the physics and particles but they will not do that.

steveo1234562882d ago

erm they didn't really even do that, the gpus were outdated the day they launched big time

used to be when a console launched it was at least a mid to high spec pc equivalent, not so this time round although the 1x is kind of in the right place

trainsgofast2881d ago

It will be 30/N4k on XB1X do to the OG XB1 is only 30FPS. PC will just use a large amount of power to get it up to 60/N4k. IF the engine on OG XB1 was 1080dp/60 then we all would get a 60FPS mark. The CPU in the XB1X can do N4K/60.

2pacalypsenow2882d ago

@Anzil

I guess 3 people have no idea what 2K is.

1080P is 2K resolution.

bluefox7552882d ago

Technically you're all wrong. Although 2k is sometimes used to refer to 1080p, it is not officially recognized as 2k by DCI or industry standards.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

darthv722882d ago

Occasionally, 1080p (Full HD or FHD) has been included into the 2K resolution definition. Although 1920x1080 could be considered as having a horizontal resolution of approximately 2,000 pixels, most media, including web content and books on video production, cinema references and definitions, define 1080p and 2K resolutions as separate definitions and not the same.

Although 1080p has the same vertical resolution as DCI 2K resolutions (1080 pixels), it has a smaller horizontal resolution below the range of 2K resolution formats.

According to official reference material, DCI and industry standards do not officially recognize 1080p as a 2K resolution in literature concerning 2K and 4K resolution

2pacalypsenow2882d ago

That's just semantics, they didn't market 1080p as 2k but using the same logic 2160p shouldn't be considered 4k either.

But because it sounds good on marketing material, they use 4k.

If the pro has the power to get it to 2160 checkerboard the OneX should be native no problem. It's got an additional PS4 worth of power of the PS4 pro, if bungie can't do it then there is something wrong

gangsta_red2883d ago

Unless they gimp the x1x version due to parity.
We'll have to wait and see.

SpaceRanger2882d ago

Why would they do that?

I doubt they'd gimp the x1x just to keep parity with the x1s/x1. That just wouldn't make sense unless MS really pushed for it as to not alienate the already existing fanbase.

OMGitzThatGuy2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

@Space you skipped a page

sizeofyou2882d ago

I thought they'd already announced that the XB1X was running the same as PS4P. May be slightly higher native resolution but checkerboard 4k at 30. Sure Bungie said that a month or so ago...may be wrong...

LexHazard792882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

@Space,

And why would MS do that? And alienate the hardcore fanbase waiting to play the best version of games on the X.

UltraNova2882d ago

@Kribwalker...Really? So it has 20 Gigs of RAM, a 58 compute unit GPU, and a 16 core CPU? Cause that's what an entire additional PS4 would amount to. Dumbass.

How are you seriously this misled? Over the Pro, the One actually has 3.5 more Gigs of usable RAM, only 4 more compute units in the Gpu, and the same CPU with those 3 all being sped up. Stop spreading lies and acting like this damn thing is the second coming.

TankCrossing2882d ago

He doesn't mean that they literally glued the hardware together :-/

oof462882d ago

@TankCrossing: You mean they don't?!? ;)

DARK_WOLF2882d ago

Dude it has 1.8tf more than the ps4 pro.

Ps4 is 1.8 tf

Along with having 50% more total RAM and a customized FASTER cpu.

Why get so defensive his comment is true xb1x has a whole ps4 worth of power over ps4p

Kribwalker2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

The Xbox one x has 9gb of available ram that runs at 326gb/s
The PS4 Pro has 5.5 GB of ram available for games at 218gb/s
The PS4 has 5 gb of ram at 176gb/s
So the Xbox one x has 1.5gb of less available ram that is just about 40% faster then the combined PS4/pro ram. The extra speed should make up a lot of ground. It doesn't need 20gb of ram, don't know where you got that.

The GPU is 6 terra flops vs the pro and original PS4 combined 6.04 teraflops GPU

The CPU is the only thing that isn't close more with the one x having a 8 core 2.73ghz and the pro with a 8 core 2.1ghz and the OG with a 8 core 1.6ghz.

So GPU and ram are essentially a PS4 and PS4 pro combined

Aenea2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

Facts:
- checkerboard rendering takes 50 to 55% of GPU power of rendering it natively
- the Pro can't render it at a constant 2160p in checkerboard rendering
- Xbox One X has only 40% more GPU power than the Pro

Now explain to me how the One X can do native 4k with this game no problem?

Instead of needing an extra ps4, it needs an extra Pro and even then it would need dynamic scaling..

DarkZane2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

It takes a GTX 1080 Ti which is about 12 TFLOPS for reliable 4K at 60fps. I can't believe people where delusional enough to think Xbox One X with its pathetic 6 TFLOPS could even do 4k/30fps natively.

Enjoy your checkboard 4K, the people who bought PS4 Pro will enjoy games that look and perform the same while having payed $100 less.

Pretty sure the 4K generation is only begin in 2019-2020 when Sony release the PS5 (they will win next gen too). A 12TFLOPS PS5 for $399.99 is possible because 12 TFLOPS is already possible in 2017 with a gtx 1080 ti. In 2019-2020, they will have gone through at least 3 new series of cards, with each of them completely trashing the previous one, so at this point a gtx 1080 ti and other 12 tflops cards will be nothing but ancient junk alreadyand the price will have gone down the drain.

Kribwalker2882d ago

Destiny 2 is native 1080p on the OG Xbox one, with 1.32 terra flops. MS says they designed it so games that are native 1080p should be 4k on the OneX
"The presentation states that the design goal of Xbox One X was to run native 1080p titles with a 4x resolution boost, while during our visit, Microsoft had expanded the objective, saying that it wanted both 900p and 1080p game engines to run at 2160p"

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

Razzer2882d ago

But not necessarily "native" 4k

yeahright22882d ago

It's just what they wish. despite what we've seen and heard and all signs pointing to major 3rd party games going the checkerboard route on both pro and 1x, they still believe the "true 4k" line. most likely it'll just end up being first party titles doing true, as in native, 4k.

Ju2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

The XO is as much native 1080p as the Pro is full 4k. It scales the horizontal res down to 1300something and the Pro does it from 3840 to 3084 or something. What the PS4 is over the XO the Xxx will be over the Pro. Looks the same with no drops in horizontal resolution.

At 4k this will be indistinguishable.

Anyhow. This engine is a vast improvement over Destiny 1 and it run 2160p with a rock solid 30fps on the Pro. Particle effects are out of this world this time. Environments are much complexer, animation is improved and yet it runs 4x the resolution. Well done, Bungie!

Aenea2881d ago (Edited 2881d ago )

@Krib

Yet, D2 doesn't run at native 1080p on the X1, it uses dynamic scaling, so no, it's not possible to run this at NATIVE 4k on the One X.

X1: dynamic scaling up to 1080p
PS4: native 1080p
Pro: dynamic scaling up to 2160p using CHECKERBOARD rendering
One X: always 2160p, no dynamic scaling, using CHECKERBOARD rendering

it's just flipped around, as expected, yet, not native 4k on the One X either, as expected...

With it's light weight version of windows, ergonomic controls, gaming performance, and open system with multiple store launchers, it may be the best handheld on the market. This device is more pro consumer instead of a handheld that just plays Xbox games.

If my cash wasn't so tight this year I would be looking to pick up one at or around launch and I have no issues recommending it to any gamer as long as it is within their price range.

PapaBop1d 9h ago

Pro consumer? Have you seen the rumoured price for it? At that price and using an LCD panel, pro consumer is not the words I'd use to describe it.

DivineHand1251d 8h ago

So for you if it had an OLED screen but stay in a closed walled off software ecosystem, that would be pro consumer?

This is for the people who want an ergonomic handheld with as much power they could possibly get without compromising the battery life. It also gives you the ability to connect to your own display or an external GPU for those with the budget. What I love about it the most is that you have multiple competing store fronts so you can shop around for the best prices for your games.

BeHunted1d 8h ago

Agree to disagree. This would open up a new era of Windows Handheld gaming devices: a cut down version of Windows with no bloatware, with hundreds of gaming clients.

crazyCoconuts1d 1h ago

"cut down version of Windows without bloatware"
No such thing exists. Temper your expectations... Windows launching straight into the Xbox app.

mkis0071d 8h ago

It doesn't play all xbox games though. It plays pc games, meaning if you don't have play anywhere titles, you have to buy them again.

DivineHand1251d 8h ago

Right now that is a small inconvenience as the play anywhere program is not perfect.

You have to consider that it is offering something that no one else is doing for a large number of titles. That small nitpick should not count against this device and we as gamers should support moves like this.

crazyCoconuts1d 1h ago

Would you still consider this pro consumer if you learned this is just MS' way of telling you there won't be any more consoles, just PCs?

DivineHand12511h ago

If it means I won't have to pay any subscription fees for online gaming I would say yes to that.

Nintendo Switch 2 sales shatters records, most-sold console in 24-hour period

The Nintendo Switch 2 has set a new record by selling over 3 million units within 24 hours, tripling the PlayStation 4’s previous launch day sales.

Crazy. Switch 2 is going to do very well.

darthv722d ago (Edited 2d ago )

No doubt, but.... the current price is out of the realm of the average parent / kid to buy like the SW1 was. So this launch achievement is from those of us with more disposable income.

The number of SW2 specific titles pales in comparison to the variety of SW1 games that get a performance boost right out of the box on this. And like the SX and PS5 before it, you can bet the majority are going to be using it as a means to better enjoy their existing titles that can benefit.

This may have been quick out of the gate... so was the WiiU. I quite enjoy it for what it is, but am keeping my expectations in check.

GenoPurpel2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

The Switch 2’s price point is great and fine and it’s still cheaper than the current gen of consoles aside from the Series S.

The only place I think they will fall short is their software sales, which also in turn may affect the hardware sales but not significantly. Parents will be fine paying for the system for their kids, but one look at an $80-$90 price tag for a single video game, that is where a lot of people will draw the line. Maybe not so much the people who are in the “willing to pay because I buy deluxe editions anyway” crowd, but for parents specifically, more sacrifices are gonna need to be made in their choices of gifts for their kids.

OtterX2d ago

As a parent of 3 with a very modest income, it was very affordable bc I already had an immense library of games, and the Mario Kart bundle came out to only about €50 more than a standard bundle. Both Zeldas were upgraded w Family Expansion Pass that I already had. Many games were upgraded for free. The only additional game I bought was Fast Fusion for 14.99 which was a great purchase!

Killer2020UK2d ago

People seem to forget that the Switch was $299 at launch which in today's money is roughly $400. That makes the Switch 2 a $50 increase when inflation is taken into account compared to the original.

Yes, people have less spending power on average compared to 2017 (Switch launch year) but this is not the MASSIVE price hike that people are making out Nintendo to be doing.

raWfodog2d ago

“No doubt, but.... the current price is out of the realm of the average parent / kid to buy like the SW1 was. So this launch achievement is from those of us with more disposable income.”

It could also be many people rushing to buy to avoid any possible tariff hikes in the future, but I think it’s still a good sign that many people still want physical consoles. Congrats to Nintendo! I’m not getting one at this time though (unless I get it for a Xmas present for one of my kids).

I think the typo you put was meant to be $80.
Anyway, the answer to those questions seem to be yes.

victorMaje2d ago

Looks like I’ve been enlightened about the amount. Happy to see it’s not $90.

Don't get your news from clickbait TikTokers/YouTubers, only go to the source (Nintendo) or reliable new outlets like IGN.

No game is $90 on the Switch 2, and they will never go there. Most games will be under $80, too.

cool
wasnt expecting it not to sell well

Profchaos2d ago

Its crazy that it's both the highest selling console on day 1 and people can walk into a store and buy it with no pre order

Ashunderfire862d ago

Yup while I was waiting in line from Best Buy for Switch 2, like I did for Switch 1 back in 2017, every waiting 12am was going to get a Switch 2! I was in the no preorder line too!

My friend manage to get 4 Switch 2s at his GameStop store, that was lowkey not busy at all. Got them all for himself and his family. Super easy to get a Switch 2 over PS5.

Profchaos2d ago

The struggle to get a ps5 was real had mates wait over 2 years for stock i got lucky and got it day 1 but still

Ashunderfire862d ago

I know and I also struggled getting a preorder for the PS5, when Walmart, Best Buy among other retailers open their preorders a day early before most of us realize it. I got my PS5 launch day thanks to YouTube Live Streamer Jake Randell. He helps people get preorders and launch consoles.

the PS5 also released during a global pandemic.

Ashunderfire861d 12h ago

It’s funny how I got disagrees for speaking the truth for what I experienced getting the Switch 2. Nintendo had more copies of Switch 2 than Sony for the PS5.

Don’t be butthurt about this very fact. People on here disagreeing with crazy reasons lol

Doesn't that mean Nintendo made sure they had plenty of stock available at retail.

Profchaos2d ago

Yeah it's nice to see they prepped for it

adamwparker2d ago

Yeah, I remember reading an article over two years ago with Nintendo stating that they were going to do all that they could to make sure their next console didn't have the PS5/XBox reseller swiping /no stock fiasco happen to them.

Looks like they made sure production met demand. Refreshing to see that the reseller thing didn't trend and I hope a lot of people who bought multiple units for the sole reason to resell then at $1000 are now stuck with them.

jznrpg2d ago

It also means there isn’t a chip shortage when PS5/Xbox came out during pandemic

gold_drake2d ago

to be where fair, we had a current gen come out during covid ha

repsahj2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I remembered I tried 7 pre-order events during the PS5 launch. I gave up and ended up buying 1 from a scalper. But now, I already secured 1 pre-order Switch 2 unit in my country very easy and without problems.

Neonridr1d 16h ago

kudos to Nintendo for ensuring a healthy amount of stock.
