Why Resident Evil 7 is my game of the year

The year was 2005, a bold new direction for the Resident Evil franchise was about to be released. The 4th entry in the iconic series completely threw away the rule book of what defined a 'Resident Evil' game and took it in a bold new direction. What followed was a huge success and inspired many games across all genres, Resident Evil 4 is one of the greatest games created. The year is now 2017 and Capcom is attempting the same trick with a complete refresh of the series.

Your hate campaign against this game is pathetic. You've whinged about it nonstop since before it was released.

In VR it's very successful at being a hard-hitting, scary game. If you like that sort of thing, most who played it that way would surely agree it's the best there is.

You suggest it has no atmosphere and yet I've never heard anyone else say that. You say it not traditional RE and yet, from when you enter the main hall, it's strikingly reminiscent of RE1 and RE2, with puzzles, keys, item management, bosses, limited ammo and a feeling that you know you have to go around that corner, but you really don't want to!

I'm not trying to sell it to you, merely to understand what your issue is with it? Your hate is palpable and if it stems solely from staunch traditionalism, you're only hurting yourself.

@Kosic ...og RE1 on PS1 (not the remake) is by far the best ...after it RE3 comes second along with the outstanding RE Outbreak ....everything else follows ...except RE7 offcourse whcih i dont consider it a RE game

It was a great game, but hard to put a niche horror game as best of the year. Especially with titles like Horizon, BOTW, Mario Odyssey, etc.

You're entitled to your own opinion for GOTY of course. However, there is no way this objectively wins GOTY. Far, far better candidates out there.

Hmmm, a lot of contenders for GOTY, that's for sure.
Having said that, I (mostly) enjoyed RE7. Not the best in the entire series, but I did like SOME aspects of the game. Definitely could have used a bit more enemy variety, too.
As for the DLC content - hated every one of it.

Re7 is an alright game. Felt it over stayed it's welcome towards the last few chapters. Not tried the VR mode sadly.

Wouldn't say re7 is goty material for me.

yep its also my best game this year. A real suprise from the crap 5 and 6. And its also the only VR game ive played this year that isnt trash too. All haters of this game go and play your crap instead of bitching then. For me and many others this is our game of the year PERIOD !

It is a good game but I wouldn't say GOTY. The replay value is very low. I got bored after one playthrough and traded it. This is not a game I would play over and over and not get sick of it imo

A good choice RE7 was quite refreshing for me especially after the abomination that was 6 (I didn't particularly care for 5 either). Easily my fav RE game after 4 and Remake.

Edit: Woah what's with all the negative comments? The author is entitled to his/her opinion and just cause Capcom took the series in a brand new and very bold direction doesn't automatically make it bad.
