Can't wait for this game, the beta has been fantastic so far.

Good-Smurf2488d ago (Edited 2488d ago )

Despite being a pretty limited beta,Sport mode that according to Kaz to not to be fun it's surprised how addicted I am to the
that mode.
Loved the closed beta!

IRetrouk2488d ago

The Kaz and Bathurst videos are worth a watch if you like GT

My excitement for the game has been dulled somewhat by Sony's anti-gamer, anti-consumer decision on Fanatec wheel compatibility. In the past Sony has been very open to a wide range of legacy peripherals but with their market dominance I fear they have become a little arrogant and less open. That new Thrustmaster wheel is likely going to be a nice device but its not really moving the wheel technology forward. Other manufacturers are moving to direct drive technology while the Thrustmaster T-GT will be an expensive wheel based on belt driven technology with some meaningless buzz words tacked on by the marketing department and heavily promoted in this way by Polyphony not through technology but because of a business promotion deal. The wheel is just part of the whole setup, Thrustmaster are still produce a premium set of pedals to rival something like Fanatec's Clubsport Pedals.

The wheel looks really good, plenty of new tech in it. And it is direct drive

Revvin2488d ago

It does look good but its not direct drive, look at the cut-away graphics on the official site, the motor is off-set to the side driving the centre assembly driven by belts.

IRetrouk2488d ago

Yeah just looked again, they obviously changed their mind as it was deff announced as a direct drive wheel, although reading the info on the wheel, seems to me like they found a good middle ground, either way at 700 pounds im never buying this, the g29 will do.

Revvin2488d ago

I don't think it was ever going to be a true direct drive wheel, just misleading marketing spin to which Fanatec have also been criticised for when they first announced the CSW 2 'Servo' wheel which everyone took to be the same direct drive servo motor technology that drives the SimXperience Accuforce wheel, Bodnar Wheel and OSW kits and the like when really it was an iteration of their Clubsport Wheel belt drive line. Admittedly they did advance things with the worm drive system and automotive style belts which reduced the 'cogging' effect found on cheaper wheels but it was still belt driven.

If the Thrustmaster T-GT really is going to retail at £700 then its an expensive plastic based wheel when for not much more you could buy a CSW V2 and Universal hub which has a much more rugged metal construction although because of Sony's decision you won't have PS4 support. This is what has annoyed me with Sony - back on the PS3 my G25 worked great as did loads more older Logitech wheels that were not built for the PS3, I moved on from the G25 to a Fanatec Porsche Wheel Turbo S which at the flick of a switch allowed me to game on PC, PS3 and XBOX 360. Fanatec's CSW V2 worked great in Project Cars and DIRT Rally and still does so its clear its not a hardware or software issue, its plainly a business decision so Sony can rake in more money through licensing out to mass market manufacturer's like Thrustmaster and then shamelessly use a first party studio like Polyphony to market that wheel.

There is no software or hardware restriction stopping Sony from supporting the CSW V2, even Microsoft were open to Fanatec producing a wheel rim to add compatibility, therefore reducing the cost of XBOX compatibility and allowing users up until Sony made this decision to have a wheel that was compatible across PC, XBOX and PS4. Why Sony could not have just insisted Fanatec manufacture a PS4 Universal hub with official PlayStation button legends I don't know. I'd have bought one just to maintain this cross platform compatibility that is important to me as a gamer across multiple formats. The net result is I'm doing more racing on PC and XBOX now and where as with games like Project Cars which I bought on all three formats I will be buying on XBOX from now on and once that starts happening I'm more likely to buy other games for that format and the PlayStation no longer becomes my primary gaming machine.

Hmmm

Think I'll try using one of the coverter devices that I can use to connect a PS4 to a G25
