@4Sh0w: I'm talking about consoles here bud. It's funny how PC is either something to consider, or not important at all, depending on whether or not the game is also on the PS4.

The PS4 has sold pretty much double what the Xbox One has sold. In terms of available audience on consoles, the PS4 is clearly the most logical choice for doing business.

But because that makes your favourite console look weak, you then shift to "well it's also on PC which has an even bigger audience" as if that in any way helps the developers be successful on consoles.

Here's a thought for you. The developers could have made the game PC exclusive and you wouldn't have access to it at all via Xbox. It would help them make more money since it's easier to develop on PC and they wouldn't have to worry about the funds needed to also make a console version. They could also cut out the MS middle man in the process.

Since you love PC gaming, and love talking about PC gaming, I bet that would be the best case scenario for you right? Not having the game on the Xbox so the devs can spend less on development? Right?

I think what Mega is implying is that the Cuphead developers have gambled quite a bit on banking on the smallest install base of the three consoles entities for their success. They would have most certainly made bank with the other two platforms added no doubt.
It looks like an incredible game. Indeed I wish it were headed to the PS platform, but oh well... if I want it that bad, I will invest in an Xbone again. For now, Xboners enjoy!

While its true that the game is also coming to Steam, Microsoft does in fact have something to do with it on PC. The game is also a Play Anywhere title, and will be sold in theWindows Store. In fact, you can pre-order the PA version right now. All who purchase the game on Xbox consoles can also play it on there PCs too and MS will get a percentage of everyone who purchases it through there store...including on PC.

It may not be published but it was funded by MS. Saying this game would be on PS4 because it wasn't published by MS would be like saying SFV should be on XBO because it wasn't published by Sony.

And yet both games were "funded" by MS and Sony respectfully therefore it explains the contractual conditions they are in. PC is a neutral zone (so to speak) hence why Cuphead and SFV are able to coincide there together but not on consoles together.

The game looks beautiful, I love old cartoons (and I'm sort of an expert in old animation)... But also, seems like a very simple old school shmup. I'm already loving it but not sure people still like the genre... if it's popular enough to make this a successful story.

That's utter horse crap, there are many dev teams that do this, just because they're aligned with a console Dev doesn't make it there fault. also this happens with Sony and Nintendo as well where there Dev teams go through this, getting extra funding isn't as easy as saying please sir can we have some more money, they have to prooven the project is working.

Scalebound got trashed because the development team were overstretched, over tired and the project went way past what it was supposed to cost. Scalebound got to the point the development team was putting crazy hours in and were still way behind with costs pretty much doubling, that it just was not worth it in the end. MS made a good call there for ms and the same of the developers behind it. Microsoft stayed supporting platinum with funding longer than they should of really, but it's a shame scalebound was to big for the small developer team, they should of took on extra staff.

Can't you see that until the game gets released alot of devs don't have any income, which is why they have to end up gambling there lives away. Developing is not a paid by the hour job, they are making very long invested projects work and bare fruit.

WRONG. With the ALL xbox play anywhere games, the Xbox app on windows 10 will be running in the background. You NEED to be signed in to an Xbox gamertag to even start the game at the title screen. The most horrendous thing is ALL Xbox play anywhere games are "ONLINE ONLY". Meaning you CANNOT launch them offline or without the Xbox app (if you have it uninstalled from your windows 10 PC). For games without the xbox play anywhere program it can be launched offline, but still needs a gamertag to be signed in (even offline).

WRONG on steam requiring a client running. Steam, unlike windows store, doesn't impose ANY restrictions on the DRM front and leaves it completely to the developer. Almost 100% of indie games can be launched without the client and this will be no different. It's only that rare title by a AAA publisher which requires denuvo authentication which needs steam running, unlike xbox play anywhere games which requires both a gamertag sign-in and an always online requirement to even start the game.

If one is playing on a "non gaming device"(what non gaming device are you talking about here?) the best version is still the steam version, There is absolutely NO advantage to the windows store/xbox version unless you have an xbox one and that's your primary games hub.

If said ever got an Xbox in the future, they would already have games ready to go waiting for them. Remember, lots of gamers may check out this game coming from other consoles like PS or Nintendo...but that doesn't mean they would never purchase an Xbox in the future...in fact, Play Anywhere could actually encourage gamers of other consoles to do so.

Actually, its YOU who is wrong here. The Xbox App is NOT required to be running in order for you to start a game or app from the Windows Store. Xbox login happens ONCE when you first launch the game for the first time and automatically does every time after. No clients are required to run any of these games. However, you do need Steam and its overlays to run steam games which does take up additional resources from your system. There are zero overlays required for a Windows Store game.

And in terms of non gaming devices, I was referring to devices like mine...which is a Surface Pro. Running Steam on top of this game on my PREFERRED device for on the go use can hinder the small windows of performance I already have. Because I don't need additional clients running, that frees up my system just that much more to handle a game like this with acceptable frame rates.

And where do you get mods from from a game like this lol. This game will NOT feature mods at all lol.

I'm not here to argue with you when you shift goalposts to suit your narrative. "Non xbox gamers", no matter how much you spin it, don't care about a console version of their games, period. If their friends have an Xbox, they can get their game on that platform or they can use his account to share cuphead/check out cuphead on steam, when they get a PC, just as you said about play anywhere downloading the game's saves and continuing from where they left off, steam cloud saves does this for more than half a decade. It works both ways. :)

Correct, and they don't have to get an xbox to check this out if they want this game, they have a way better and a cheaper alternative with freedom, a PC with steam and GOG.

Wrong again. You seem to be running around your own narrative of cognitive dissonance, when you say both, "it doesn't require a client running to start the game" and simultaneously "xbox login happens once". The "Xbox login happening ONCE" you're talking about here is where it REQUIRES the Xbox app to sign-in to a play anywhere game. Read my earlier post. "ALMOST" none of the indie games (singleplayer) on steam require a steam to be running. Most AAA titles don't require the steam overlay to be running. The only instances where you have to have steam running in the background is for games with mp and the other instance being publishers using DRM's like denuvo for their games, which is a minority of a tiny minority. This game can be run offline without steam, and if you wish to play co-op, you need steam for networking.

Nope, the steam version of this game (or almost 100% of other indie sp games) doesn't need the steam overlay to be running as I've said a number of times earlier. You can play it offline without using the client by just clicking on the .exe file, just like the other 1000's of steams games in the market. On the other hand, the windows store's play anywhere version of the game is "ONLINE REQUIRED FOR EVERYTIME TO LAUNCH THE GAME". And yes, the steam version is still the best version to play games on a surface pro. My younger cousin's got a surface pro, is in the housing industry and she prefers to play some games at work, avoids the windows store like the plague and always picks them up on steam if they are available there, because of performance being garbage on the win store version and the always online requirement of play anywhere games.

Have you started playing PC games very recently (just days or weeks ago) or are you googling your results just for this argument? The core aspect of pc gaming is FREEDOM from a locked ecosystem. Get this, even if the developers (the gods of their games) decided that they won't "support" mods officially and try their best to avoid it, nobody, and I mean not a single person non this planet or a corporation (like Take-Two for example with the recent GTA fiasco, google it) can stop players on PC from modding their game. I don't need to get with the times as I, as well as everyone who is remotely into PC gaming knows this already, but you need to read a post and understand it first before you weave your nice spin you got going there. I said "PLAY ANYWHERE" titles cannot be launched offline. Not the entire UWP apps. I can probably sense your next spin is going to be play anywhere games can be "played offline" by booting the game online first and then unplugging your ethernet cable or the internet altogether. Steam doesn't require either of this, click on .exe file of a game, play without client or an internet connection.

I repeat once again, "XBOX PLAY ANYWHERE TITLES ON WINDOWS 10, AS OF JULY 2ND 2017, CANNOT BE LAUNCHED OFFLINE WITHOUT AN INTERNET CONNECTION".
