Assassin’s Creed Origins is a Refreshing Return to the Series – Hands-on Preview | The Koalition

Gary Swaby at The Koalition writes: Assassin’s Creed Origins was one of the biggest surprises at this years E3. We got to see it in action for the first time during the Microsoft press conference and it looked absolutely stunning. However, people were still skeptical, wondering if this game would repeat the same formula that players have come to expect from Assassin’s Creed games.

We were given the opportunity to get hands on with the game, and we can confirm that after a 2 year hiatus, Assassin’s Creed Origins feels fresh.

I thoroughly enjoyed what this demo had to offer even if it was short. The series benefitted from a break last year and I hope Ubisoft continues to do this with all other future sequels to keep them fun and fresh.

Big AC fan and really looking forward to this but releasing on the same day as Wolfenstein II is going to kill me, which one do you play first?!

SwiffEpics2913d ago

I say play Wolfenstein first as it may be quicker to get through.

rbailey2913d ago

As a Wolfenstein fan myself I also share your frustration lol I would agree and say to play that game before Assassin's Creed too only because I'm sure Origins will take alot longer to playthrough.

Adexus2910d ago

Lol yeah that's what I'm edging towards as well, maybe dabble on Origins for a bit and then hammer through Wolfenstein.

The videos that IGN released around E3, about 15 mins each, were just woeful. The characters basic running and traversal animations are horrendous to look at. He looks like he is floating on thin air most the time and when he does the animation of landing and running instantly the speed at which he moves does not match the amount of steps he just took when he goes into the run/sprint transition. And the camera is just awful for the combat the way it just switches behind him very awkwardly.

I know it says "pre alpha" or something in the bottom right corner of the videos. I don't care about that. The game is going gold in about 10 weeks time, THAT is what I care about and it clearly needs to be delayed.

I've Been Replaying Assassin's Creed Origins, And It's Reminded Me What Shadows Is Sorely Lacking

It took going back to a much older game to realise just how empty Assassin's Creed Shadows feels.

"I've never thought feudal Japan would be a good Assassin's Creed setting. Give me 1960s southern England with mods and rockers."

Aaaaaaand that's where I stopped reading.

Terry_B25d ago

Never read anything on that website.

chicken_in_the_corn25d ago

I agree with the first part of their statement. Japan is so overused and it wasn't particularly interesting in Shadows. Now that it's been done, they can do something better.

isarai23d ago

Tf? Almost had an aneurysm at the thought of that concept, like what?

And shadows reminds me of something origins is lacking. Virtually every game is lacking something. It is because it is lacking, that it has what it isnt. Funny dichotomy that…

anast25d ago

Origins is a beautiful game made by talented people that got turned into a brutal level-gate fest by the CEOs.

PRIMORDUS25d ago

There are only a few Assassin's Creed games I played. Original, The Ezio Collection, and what I think is probably the best in the series Assassin's Creed Odyssey with the DLC. I'm done with the series, it's the same shit.

isarai23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Same, enjoyed 1, looooved the ezio trilogy, and 4 was peak, everything after that just sucked. Unity was a great direction but the bugs and how long it took to fix killed it, best parkour system in the series tho

AC Origins is the last great Ubisoft game. Period. This game show how great the Ubisoft story writing once was. Also the meticulous research Ubisoft did in the field of Egyptology. Ubisoft was so pride of their research that it made a separate Touring mode just to showcase all of their study.

10 Video Game Sequels That Saved Their Franchise

Video game sequels like Assassin's Creed Origins, Doom (2016), and Fire Emblem Awakening were just what these franchises needed to be revitalized.

Immagaiden776d ago

Lmao what’s Halo Infinite doing on this list?

Who would ever say Halo Infinite saved the Halo franchise

SullysCigar776d ago

Thought the same - very bizarre!

RE7 though... my God, what a shift over RE6! That franchise was definitely going in the wrong direction, so RE7 was a welcome return to form.

ModsDoBetter776d ago

Resi 6 was and still is the worst entry in the series.
7 was a great turnaround, despite people’s concerned about the switch to FP perspective.

DMC5 definitely helped the franchise after the whole DmC debacle. Whilst it was a decent action game, it was a far cry from the series and the characters we knew.

AC Origins is my favourite in the entire AC series. Despite the switch to a more RPG style of gameplay - the setting, soundtrack, length, etc were all amazing. sadly followed up by the ridiculously long and “more of the same” Odsyssey.

I don’t feel it’s fair to say the franchise slipped with Doom 3, Doom 3 was incredibly atmospheric and took the game in a different direction but there’s no denying Doom (2016) was sensational.

Halo 4 & 5 were disappointing but Halo Infinite definitely didn’t save the franchise? What?

TheEnigma313776d ago (Edited 776d ago )

I'm going to have to go with SMB 3. I was around when SMB 2 first came out and people hated it. 3 is still arguably the best mario game created.

HellspawnPR1981776d ago

"Halo Infinite"? Worse Halo ever. Whoever made this list just lost all credibility.

Hofstaderman776d ago

In future lists of a similar nature I have a suspicion Final Fantasy XVI will feature.
