Executive Producer of PUBG (Chang Han Kim) on Xbox Console Exclusivity

Chang Han Kim: So, we definitely do have plans and thoughts about other platforms...

UltraNova2494d ago (Edited 2494d ago )

Take your time Player Unknown I have more than enough online shooters to keep me occupied for at least another year...namely BF1 and Battlefront 2 and hell I might even try Destiny 2 this time around. Then theres Anthem...oh lord...

NotanotherReboot2493d ago

this game is nothing like any of those...lol

LexHazard792493d ago

Lol...Ill be playing BF1, Battlefront 2, Destiny 2, Anthem and PUBG. Amen...

Ricegum2493d ago

Hey Lex, I'm playing PUBG right now on my PC. No need for the Xbox bud.

2493d ago
XMarkstheSpot2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

I guess everyone will just buy it on PC and no one will buy it on console( That goes for Xbox and PS) since no one needs a console to play it and could just og play it right now. Man why even waste the time bringing it to consoles when we can play it right now I say!

butchertroll2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

Well, well....What do we have here. So, after all it will come to PS4. Kim said that 3 months ago :

http://www.egmnow.com/artic...

"Speaking to Inven (via Kotaku), Kim said that it has a version of the game running on Xbox One and the team is currently working on improving it. A PlayStation 4 version is also planned, but that won’t be until after the game officially launches, presumably due to the lack of an early access system."

Even if they said that PUBG is Xbone exclusive BECAUSE MS said so at E3 and that's why they marketed this game as "exclusive".

http://n4g.com/news/2072510...

Now we have this article where they confirmed "another" platforms. I told ya!

KillBill2493d ago

Except you are doing what everyone past has done... you are misreading what is actually being said.

You end your post with "Now we have this article where they confirmed "another" platforms. I told ya!" except all they have confirmed is interest in other platforms while your reply more so leans to a statement that said platform is actually in work and leads others to imagine the idea that it is something that is set in stone.

MS has never said it won't come to any other console... only that it is a launch exclusive, meaning that the game is being released exclusively for XB console but not under a licensing agreement to be or stay exclusive. It isn't even under the temporary exclusive premise where it is paid to be exclusive for a period of time. Just that currently only exclusive to XB console.

It is currently playable on PC and soon enough coming to XB. And they are interested in other platforms. What company wouldn't be interested in making the game available to more consumers?

But when Brendan Greene talked on consoles in general previously everyone reported it as fact that the game was coming to both platforms. When he simply said "We're looking at both consoles of course, but we have no time frame for both." and then when it was announced later that XB had a plan and time frame in place people assumed a PS plan was also in place. It was not. Though obviously still being looked at.

Stop blowing everything out of proportion as if it is proof of something definitely happening. It will just likely disappoint you in the end if it doesn't happen.

butchertroll2493d ago

.....

PUBG ISN'T a Microsofts game nor they are publishing it. So, yes, devs it will come to PS4 sooner or later.

ocelot072493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

"So, we definitely do have plans and thoughts about other platforms"

If this was an exclusive for the Xbox One (not exclusive anyhow it's on PC) he would not of said this. I knew it was just dodgy wording on Microsoft's behalf. They did the same thing with Rise of the Tomb raider.

https://s.aolcdn.com/hss/st...

As you can see via the picture above. With Rise of the tomb raider although they didn't lie. The way they worded it was clever but a little bit shady for my liking. Coming Holiday 2015 Exclusively for Xbox. This got people up in arms thinking it was a full on exclusive. When it was simply a timed exclusive.

Same thing with Battlegrounds. On Microsoft twitter account it says it's coming exclusively;y to Xbox in 2017. However, This is wrong for starters considering it's all ready on PC so it's not exclusive at all. But they put 2017 in the title. This means that this game can release on PS4 and Switch in 2018.

yarbie10002493d ago

Phil Spencer came out right after the E3 presentation & flat out said that Xbox Launch exclusive meant it was simply launching on Xbox first & would come to other platforms later.

vallencer2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

I just dont understand how people can misconstrue what it means when it says console launch exclusive. I mean they didnt hide anything. Its launching first on xbox....i thought it was pretty obvious.

livedeht2493d ago

Why is their PR so misleading that the would have to clarify?

uptownsoul2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

That hasn't stopped people from declaring that this game will never be on PS4.

Software_Lover2493d ago

@livedeht

I could come out and say my $h!t was brown yesterday, and someone would still ask me to clarify. Was it dark brown or more beige? This is the world we live in.

Iloveherliezz2493d ago

Shhhh.... Don't tell him... Literally zero point in doing so. He made a subjective comment it should be treated as such...

2493d ago
2493d ago
Liqu1d2493d ago

@Ciporta1980 It did say "console launch exclusive".

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

However, it also had a misleading voiceover saying "exclusive" and at the end it said "Xbox One Exclusive Late 2017".

livedeht2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

@ all, the statement they used is obvious to the well informed (I knew they were timed), however the language they used is intentionally misleading to the casuals gamers (>90% of gamers).

OC_MurphysLaw2493d ago

It was never misleading... and anyone who did any searching would know PU had already said they had been developing the console game for Xbox first and were not looking at other platforms until after. That was actually said a good month back prior to E3.

ocelot072493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

Didn't watch MS E3 conference. I was just going off what the Xbox twitter account said as well as a few online outlets. If they indeed say "launch exclusive" at E3 then I do apologies.

XanderZane2493d ago

True, it's timed exclusive, but we don't know for how long.

The_Sage2493d ago

Yarbie... You know as well as I do, and everyone else does, that they were trying to make it seem like those games were exclusives.

KillBill2493d ago

@uptownsoul - "That hasn't stopped people from declaring that this game will never be on PS4." point is that is not the word going around... what is actually being debunked is the idea it is already announced to definitely be coming to PS4. Nothing has been announced yet... they are still looking at it. So yes, keep your hopes up but don't start counting the money before you scratch off the lotto ticket.

Pc is Microsoft's platform just like vita is ps and Wii u and d's are Nintendo

Seafort2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

No it's not. Microsoft only profit from games sold on PC platform if they publish them like all other devs/publishers on the platform. If they don't they don't get a damn thing. On Xbox they own the platform and profit from all games sold on it.

Microsoft supply the OS on PC and that's it. They don't sell the hardware and only publish a limited number of games software on PC.

No one owns PC platform.

Liqu1d2493d ago

PC is an open platform.

XanderZane2493d ago

@Seafort
Microsoft gets licensing fees from developers who use their Window application to make their games. So even though they do get money from the actual game, they still get paid by the developers for running their games on their Windown platform. Without the O/S developers wouldn't be running it on the PC.

Goldby2493d ago

@xander.
Unless the game is published or developed my MS or sold thru win 10 store they don't make any money off of games.

They don't make money off of 3rd party games sold through steam, gog or even humble bundle

WTF are you on? He said it would come to Xbox first and other platforms later.

Give it up dude.

Gh05t2493d ago

Lets play a game... Who said this?

"We cant wait to bring Playerunknown's Battlegrounds exclusively to Xbox One later this year."

A) Phil Spencer
B) Brendan Greene

Answer: "B"

Yet MS are the ones called out for "dodgy" wording.

ocelot072493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

http://oi63.tinypic.com/w1x...

I stand by my "dodgy" wording comment thank you very much.

Edit: Looks like Xbox twitter account has now removed that tweet and has now rephrased it as simply coming to Xbox in 2017. With no sign of the word "exclusive".

Gh05t2493d ago

Best Case: Tweet said what Greene said on stage, which again can be heard coming out of HIS mouth.

Worst case: The tweet never existed and you pulled a doctored photo to try to prove a point that cant be verified, especially since the pic you pulled is already doctored.

Calling MS dodgy is one thing not calling all parties who said the same thing dodgy is a double standard.

Fishy Fingers2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

As anyone with a grasp of the English language should have understood from 'launch exclusive' at its unveiling and subsequent mentions.

I don't know if people find it genuinely confusing (stupid to put it politically) or pretend to be just to act on their inner fanboy and make drama. Just call it 'timed exclusive' and get it when you can, if you want it of course

Liqu1d2493d ago

Saying "exclusive" as "console launch exclusive" shows up doesn't help send a clear message.

Fishy Fingers2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

Was to me.

At worst it's simple wordplay, something every single company who ever promoted a product is guilty of. Like I said, people like to make drama I suppose.

Either way I'm sure it be available to everyone eventually and people can just play the game or move on. Fuss over nothing really. But one that's already been cleared up.

Gh05t2493d ago

Saying "Exclusive console debut" didn't bother many a few years ago so why does "Console launch exclusive" bother you now? The precedent was set and it was set on stage by Sony.

Seriously we went through this in 2013 we had this argument we knew what it was.

Liqu1d2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

@Gh05t Was there an announcer saying "exclusive" when "Exclusive console debuts" were announced? When Sony announced FF7 Remake they said "coming first to PlayStation", it needed no clarification.

Meanwhile MS used "exclusive", "console launch exclusive", "launching exclusively on Xbox later this year", "Xbox One exclusive late 2017" to describe Battlegrounds and later had to clarify they meant timed exclusive like people suspected.

uptownsoul2493d ago

With all due respect, if it was that clear during the unveiling then Phil Spencer himself wouldn't have had to come out afterward and clarify...

Its just like Rise of the Tomb Raider: Half the people said it was console exclusive (with the probability of PC), the other half said it was timed....Then Square Enix came out and confirmed it was timed & everybody said it was crystal clear since day 1...BUT if it was clear from day 1 then Square wouldn't have seen the need to clarify afterward.

Fishy Fingers2493d ago

Like I said, some people are stupid.

uptownsoul2493d ago

@Fishy Fingers - "Like I said, some people are stupid."

You thinking that people wanting clarification (on a phrase that is meant to be misleading) are stupid, has got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Gh05t2493d ago

Where were all of you circa 2013?

4Sh0w2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

uptownsoul,
"if it was that clear during the unveiling then Phil Spencer himself wouldn't have had to come out afterward and clarify"

Its very transparent you are playing the fool. Look around you people ask stupid questions everyday or sometimes like in E3 interviews it's called follow up, where they asked all the execs questions from there onstage presentation they already know the answer to.

....but yeah mostly like Fishy said some people are stupid.

Are there people here actually upset about this? MS is getting first crack at the console version of a game that is still in Early Access? Is this really a threat to anybody? I can understand folks who have the X1 and not a ton of first party exclusives hoping for more exclusivity, but if you are a PS4 gamer, why would you care? The lineup of games dropping for the Ps4 is tight and this one title reaching the X1 first is unlikely to make that change. When your "side" is behind, I can understand a certain amount of angst, but the vitriol from some of the PS4 folks is just crazy. Some people just have to spike the football I guess.

Bjorn-c-blocker2493d ago

Because Battlegrounds is a Minecraft moment in gaming.

hengst24042492d ago

Yeah, even so, is the fact that this game is coming to MS first really that big of a deal? I have read multiple times that because of the OS, that porting from PC to X1 is pretty easy to do, certainly more so than from PC to PS4, so I am sure it was an easy choice for them. MS probably threw some money their way as well. Still no reason for anybody to get upset.
