Remaining PS4-Exclusive Destiny Content Won't Come To Xbox Until After Destiny 2's Release

Bungie says that all of those PlayStation-exclusive items, maps, and other content will come to Xbox in October.

I'm sure there will be a lot of idiots that will purchase the content on the Xbox.

Software_Lover2494d ago

It will magically appear. It has already been purchased, but the content is locked away for a time period. It has to be one of the worst gaming practices in history.

BiggerBoss2494d ago

How? I played destiny on Ps4 and most of my friends played it on Xbox. Not once did they complain about the couple exotics that are PlayStation exclusive.

generic-user-name2494d ago

No, it was not already purchased, it was additional content that the PS4 version got for free before the Xbox version.

I would say the worst practice in gaming history is locking away an ENTIRE game for a time period, like RoTR.

Notellin2494d ago

@BiggerBoss Love your anecdotal evidence that doesn't mean anything. Just because your 1-2 friends on Xbox didn't complain about a couple exotics (which happens to be strikes, multiplayer maps, armor sets, and exotics) doesn't mean it isn't an awful practice.

Sure we will all take your word for it though that you and your friends represent the entire player base.

Software_Lover2494d ago

@BiggerBoss
It will open the door for even worse practices later down the road, just as the advent of Paid DLC opened the door for this (locking out content).

@Generic
Apples and Oranges (one you have spent your money, the other leaves you with a choice to buy the game or not), but I would say that both practices are bad. But for the sake of debate.............

This opens the door for future games to leave out stages, levels, and other important content for players whose platform manufacturer decided not to pony up bucks for advertising rights. Imagine if with the next Assassins Creed game, the PS4 only userbase got shafted and won't have access to 1 or more missions for a year that have key plot elements even though they paid the same price as Xbox gamers.? Imagine if the Xbox only userbase got shafted out of Cars and Tracks for a year in the next Project Cars game even though they paid the same price as PS4 gamers.

Not paid DLC. Vanilla game content.

"Apples and Oranges (one you have spent your money, the other leaves you with a choice to buy the game or not), but I would say that both practices are bad. But for the sake of debate............."

That argument doesn't add up. It was advertised that the PS versions would get the additional content before the Xbox version, so that left you with a choice, to buy the game or not. It's not like it was kept secret before launch, Xbox gamers bought the version of Destiny that was advertised to them.

"Imagine if with the next Assassins Creed game, the PS4 only userbase got shafted and won't have access to 1 or more missions for a year that have key plot elements even though they paid the same price as Xbox gamers.?"

Yeah, that would be pretty bad but now imagine if the PS4 players couldn't even play a fraction of the game until 12 months after the Xbox players got to? I'd take the timed exclusive minor content over the entire game being timed exclusives.

Death2494d ago

Not sure what the point is in releasing content after people stop playing a game. Bungie made it very clear what ever issue they have against Microsoft carried over to the Xbox user base. I respected Bungie's desire to become independent and not wanting to be stuck working on the same franchise for a decade. When they jumped in bed with Activision and committed to a 10 year Destiny plan it became clear they weren't being truthful. I hope Destiny 2 is successful for Bungie, but my time and money is going towards Anthem.

donthate2494d ago

You can thank Sony's anti-consumer competitive tactics for that!

Good thing Anthem is coming out so there are more consumer friendly options.

aconnellan2494d ago

@generic

Go and look up every DLC that released for Destiny - every single expansion got 1 extra strike and a few extra bits and pieces on the PlayStation version that isn't on the Xbox version. *That's* the DLC that's getting released, so that's how we know it's already purchased, because it's not something they're going to make us buy again

freshslicepizza2494d ago

Activision has taken the crown from EA for being the worst publisher. The Modern Warfare remaster fiasco is another bad taste to throw at gamers. They also take season pass to a whole new level of exploitation. Still thinking of cancelling my PC preorder out of principle. Every time they talk about Destiny 2 it just shows how out of touch they are with the community.

@aconnellan

"Go and look up every DLC that released for Destiny - every single expansion got 1 extra strike and a few extra bits and pieces on the PlayStation version that isn't on the Xbox version."

Yes, the key word there being 'extra'. Xbox gamers paid for exactly what was advertised to them.

FlyShootRaceSims2494d ago

@ generic-user-name: "locking away an entire game for a time period, like RoTR"

Do you mean like GTA 3? Pfft gtfo of here with your selective memory bs!

JackBNimble2494d ago

No, I think you can thank MS for making this terrible trend the new norm for gaming.

I truly think " timed" exclusive games and Dlc are one of the shitiest practices ever to hit the gaming community. But MS was the worst offender last gen and now Sony is just doing back this gen.

Sono4212494d ago

Anyone dumb enough to buy into this money pit grindfest of a game deserves this kind of treatment. Bungie/Activision repeatedly screw over the Destiny fanbase and they just keep buying everything they put out.. and to make it worse the only thing they do in the game is grind grind and grind some more.. they are worse than the cod fanboys of 2014

The content is in-game. No purchase necessary. We got the strike earlier this year. But this is too little too late. Hardly anyone will care to play destiny 1 anymore.

badz1492494d ago

I guess this is a way Sony is teaching MS on how to properly do timed exclusive DLC? I'm not supporting it in any way but it must have been an pretty handsome amount Sony gave to Activision to be able to do this. none of them were able to do it for the almighty CoD but for Destiny, these contents might as well be exclusive forever seeing how it will only be out when the next game is already out. damn Sony...I guess you're not taking these timed exclusivity lightly, ha?

If you have a PS4 or Pro don't either

generic-user-name2494d ago

It's not for buying, it will be added for free.

Jmanzare2494d ago

It will be added if you bought the dlc.... So it's not free

aconnellan2494d ago

Everything that's being added came with the Dark Below, House of Wolves, Taken King, etc. So the content that's being added is only available to the people who bought those expansions

DrShoe2494d ago (Edited 2494d ago )

Yes, don't buy an xbox one x or s because they're shit? :D

Sono4212493d ago

Don't buy it on any platform it's a grinding cash cow.

CorndogBurglar2494d ago

At least its not a full year like with Destiny 1. I'm not sure that makes anything better though.......

Notellin2494d ago

It's actually more than a year since the Taken King came out in 2015. So 2 years to be in fact which is actually worse than year 1. And now they are coming out when the game is irrelevant.

ocelot072494d ago

This is the Destiny 1 content the artical is talking about It will finally release on Xbox after Destiny 2 has released. The Destiny 2 timed exclusive content will release in late 2018 for xbox and pc.

Escape from Tarkov Unheard Edition Reneges on Promised Content Behind $250 Price Tag

The new Escape from Tarkov Unheard Edition has the community in an outrage after promising exclusive access to the new PvE mode for $250 USD.

Christopher10h ago

$250? Do they not know all the other games that already exist or will be made in the future that can do similar?

SimpleDad2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

This is for the hardcore people that have 2500 h in the game. They basically play that one game the whole year.
Oh and those same people are mad as hell at this... what a way to reward fans of your game and annihilate newcomers.

Microsoft’s Surface and Xbox hardware revenues take a big hit in Q3

Microsoft just posted the third quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $61.9 billion in revenue and a net income of $21.9 billion during Q3. Revenue is up 17 percent, and net income has increased by 20 percent.

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

solideagle1h ago

you should apply in MS PR team buddy, I think you will do a great job in my humble opinion :)

Cacabunga1h ago

I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..

If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.

shinoff218325m ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Xbox hardware revenue tanks to lowest point of Xbox Series generation

Profchaos3h ago

I'm not surprised surface is struggling they aren't relevant anymore

XBManiac2h ago

Too expensive hardware when others offer the same or more for less? Good work, Green Team.

SimpleDad2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

"Despite some early successes for Xbox games on rival platforms, Xbox hardware is down by a massive 31 percent this quarter."
"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."

That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.

purple1012h ago

Activision: "we gonna need a bigger rucksack/backpack please"

Microsoft: "why's that"

Activision: "to carry yo' weak ass'

Profchaos1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Top brass have also wanted to start seeing returns on the 100 billion they have put into various Xbox related moves so seeing more multiplatform games is highly likely especially from abk

It's basically saying that PlayStation is the reason Xbox is afloat right now thinks to Ps5 versions of COD

Kornholic26m ago

So basically PS and PC gamers' money is keeping Xbox on life support.
