"Right now it’s just a political barrier"
"So far Microsoft had the highest and “most complex” requirements for security," Not surprising considering Xbox Live is the most secure and robust online gaming service. “It’s literally something we could do with a push of a button, metaphorically,” Oh man...
i hope Sony do not buckle on this ...just saying ....some US Xbox users who want to play with PS4 gym friends is not a big deal ...the rest of the world doesnt even fing care....in a lot of European countries Xone owners are nearly 0 (and i m from Europe) ...now lets go over Japan :P ..i also leave this here http://n4g.com/news/2069729...
You like speaking for everyone dont you.
So you're saying because YOU don't want, it shouldn't happen. It's a great feature and its not hard to implement. Your fanboyism doesn't change how awful this decision is from Sony.
Hopefully sony doesn't allow this. If people want to play online with friends on playstation then they should get a PlayStation. If people want to play this game online on a Xbox then they should get a PlayStation and play online. 60m ps4 👣 X🦂
The ravid fanboy is strong with this one.
Yes yes let the fanboy flow through you.
You can go portable on switch and earn xbox achievement points at same time
Septic never go full retard!
How is septic wrong though? Did we forgot when PSN was down for almost a month?
You spelled Steam wrong.
I'm referring to console
Sony needs to bite the bullet and allow it, there's no reason we shouldn't be able to play cross-platform on all devices especially if the developer is the one hosting the servers. It will most likely make it harder to handheld things like online complaints for accounts and handing out appropriate bans, but it's something that will simply have to come to an agreement once all major parties have a seat at the tablet to discuss it, after cross-platform play is done. I shouldn't have to buy 3 separate consoles just to play multiplatform games with my friends. I kind of understand leaving PC out, since keyboard and mouse offer a competitive edge, but a first step should simply be both/all consoles. @Septic You sure been very selective (Xbox X and negative crossplay for PS) about what forum post you enter for someone who claims to run a "gaming website". Going the dedicated troll route is never a good way for any major publication to ever pick your work up and take it seriously. But if you're trying to make a niche hate market like so many other people seem to thrive on, then you're on your way.
Meh...I get bored at work hence the whole BEAST thing amusing me to no end. But with cross play, it's something I'm particularly passionate about because I have mates who are split online as a result of this. I just want this barrier to be lifted. More pressure is a good thing
Ever consider that Sony doesn't agree with whatever security measures that MS has when it comes to interfacing with their network? It doesn't matter who is more secure, it matters what conditions are placed on connecting the networks.
come on Sony.. it wouldn't hurt to have more people to play with.
I think Sony is very happy with their install base.
yes but it's not like all 60 million are playing Rocket League. Wouldn't hurt to have more people to play against. Why are you supporting segregation?
@Neonridr Actually PS4 has the most active players in Rocket League because of the install base https://www.google.com/amp/...
@MegamanXXX - yes but collectively if everyone could play with each other via PC, Xbox, Switch and PS4 imagine how big the playerbase would be. If you are all for Sony closing themselves off from everyone else, then so be it. But I am not going to agree with that sort of thinking. Ass backwards if you ask me.
I don't think it would make a big difference if Sony did it or not. Would it help them make more profit? Sony is a business just like Microsoft.
@MegamanXXX - and how would allowing Sony players to play with other platforms hurt them exactly? If anything it shows that the PS4 truly is "For the Players"... my ass it is. Even Nintendo.. NINTENDO?!?! As stupid as they think when it comes to online, fully support this movement. It's a step in the positive direction, yet Sony doesn't want to be part of it. But go ahead, make excuses for them because that's what we do now..
I can't defend anti consumer practices no matter what platform its on. Sony needs to realize that even though they don't have any obligation to support cross platform play, they're contradicting their own philosophy of being "For the Players".
@Neo- "and how would allowing Sony players to play with other platforms hurt them exactly?" Dude, give it a rest already. All 3 companies have things they are ok with and not ok with. Clearly something would hurt Sony tech wise to allow such a thing on their infrastructure, the set up might go against policy Sony has set. How would it hurt Nintendo to allow gamers to have default voice chat? How would it hurt Nintendo to allow gamers to stream Nintendo games without getting flagged? How would it hurt MS to allow MMO's like FFXIV to exist outside of XBGold? Buddy, are you just of now realizing that all 3 have certain things they are ok with and certain things they are not ok with? I mean, Nintendo doesn't have default voice chat on the system " It's a step in the positive direction, yet Nintendo doesn't want to be part of it" It would be great if Nintendo stopped fighting its fans and let them push content on Youtube " It's a step in the positive direction, yet Nintendo doesn't want to be part of it" "when it comes to online" ??? LMFAO! Buddy, "when it comes to online" Nintendo is basically non-existent. "when it comes to online" where is their default voice chat? You are using a phone, but your speaking on 1 specific game not having cross play as if its the end of the world? Please buddy, you are trying WAYYYYY too hard to try to pretend this is a BIG DEAL, as I don't see you commenting about Switch basically missing features that have been on systems since 2002, but here you are talking about 1 game on PS4, yet radio silence on the multiple features missing from Switch, missing games too. Like the 95% of AAA games announced for PS4, XONE and PC are not coming to Switch.... but by all means, "cross play" is DOOOM /s
That's the thing, it seems like the only ones really calling for this is Xbox, presumably just to take shots at Sony. In my experience, PS4 users are just fine with the way things are. I suspect MS wouldn't be pushing this if the market share roles were reversed. It's Sony's job to appeal to their fans, not fans of their competition. I don't see anything wrong with crossplatform, but at the same time, it's kind of a non-issue for my friends and I.
The reason why most PS4 players simply don't care about cross platform play is because it won't affect them all that much. Most of their friends already own a PS4, so they can play with them easily. If you want more people to play with, it helps to have a larger install base and to have friends who own the same console as you. I understand why people want cross play, but it's like backwards compatibility. It's always requested, but doesn't make that huge of a difference to the majority of players, at least not on PS4. You can't just look at "what are the cons of this?" What are the pros of it? More... players? PS4 players wouldn't notice that on this game, nor would it notice it on Minecraft, because the people playing those games are playing with their friends or the already large number of active players the system has garnered. Sorry to break it to you, but there needs to be more reason to do some things aside from "it wouldn't hurt anything." It wouldn't hurt anyone to stop injustice from happening in the world, yet it's riddled with it. There's a reason for that. This is reality.
Neon hit it right on the head!
It can hurt their business to not as they're the only platform holder at this point not opting in. Further it can hurt because the update process IS going to be slower on PS4 compared to everywhere else and will not likely receive 1-1 content solely due to their own decision to opt out. It literally guarantees a poorer experience on PS4 compared to anywhere else for titles choosing to do crossplay in this fashion with Sony delivering the guarantee.
@bluefox755 "That's the thing, it seems like the only ones really calling for this is Xbox" Are you for real? The makers of Rocket League are not advocating for Xbox Live, they want a universal online community and you guys are acting immature about it all. https://venturebeat.com/201... "Xbox has the highest security of any of the platforms. If we can pass that, we can pass any of the other security protocols. We run our own servers. We run our own matchmaking. None of the platforms are aware of what’s going on in the other’s ecosystem. We control all that." Bingo, but so many still don't want to listen. “Our dream is that true cross-network play — we want it on all the platforms,” said Dunham. “It’s very important to us, for multiple reasons. One, you can have faster matchmaking. The bigger the pool, the faster the matchmaking. It benefits everybody. Two, you get better quality opponents. In a bigger pool you have better people who are closer to your location.” Meanwhile games like GT5 are no longer playable online. What about other games like Titanfall 2, could it not benefit from a larger userbase? Some of you people need to see the bigger picture here and stop acting like shareholders. @JackStraw "PS4 players wouldn't notice that on this game, nor would it notice it on Minecraft, because the people playing those games are playing with their friends or the already large number of active players the system has garnered." They may notice the benefits of a larger pool of players on some games though. Not every PS4 game has a match available right away and as the people from Rocket League it could also make matches better having people in colser proximaty and more higher calibur of players or just better matched. There really is no down side, only Sony's excuses. Sony is also saying to all of its PS4 users that they are OK with having inferior versions now with games like Minecraft. It will be getting updates and better resources like dedicated servers and the super upgrade on other platforms. That game also does not need the PS4 userbase to thrive, it already has 555 million active users per month. This isn't about who has the most consoles sold, it's about joining together for some fun and having more options.
I hate to make an excuse, but the competition need to maintain. No matter what the cost. Sony doing it not just because they want to make an excuse, they want rivalry to continue. Edit : War is business after all, @Neonridr.
But in my opinion, Sony need to think twice about this.
Why do you keep approving articles like these?
IS that why Nintendo doesn't allow fans to have content on youtube? IS that why MS doesn't allow MMO's to exist outside of XBGold? Buddy, they have their own legal set ups, they own policy's etc. Did you forget that War Thunder, War Frame, SFV and many other games are cross play? If Sony was doing this because they "want rivalry to continue:" Why would they allow cross play on other titles? Sony didn't even allow mods for Fallout 4 or Skyrim when they were being done in a way that they didn't care for. Mods are now on Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PS4, maybe, JUST MAYBE its because they have their own set of things they allow certain ways. Does the Switch allow mods for Skyrim? OH BOY Nintendo is just doing this because they "want rivalry to continue" smh, they HAVE to be doing this because "War is business" /s
Others like green, kionicwarlord, and christocolus, I can see why they would approve them because it makes Sony look bad, but I'm not sure why you've approved almost all of the clickbait that's popped up.
UCForce...why you make Sony look bad?
I am convinced that this site is over run by Sony shills and apologists. This is an anti consumer move by Sony and there is no reason for us to be giving them a free pass on this. Cross platform play would be an amazing feature, this is Sony being arrogant again now that they are winning. I know you're all going to hit that disagree but I don't mind, none of us benefit from having features like this withheld purely for industrial politics. If in the future all multiplayer games have cross platform communication except for PlayStation then it will really begin to suck. Online tournaments against PC/Xbox/PS4/Switch would be incredible but Sony wouldn't let us out to play.
oh,so when Sony wanted to do cross play and m$ turned them down many times so it was not giving them free pass? so m$ were not arrogant? tell this nonsense for yourself. m$ are full $hit and they got the $hit they deserves and they created all that $hit by them self.
@ cp_company corporate company lover i see from you ..... first off MS did not turn them down many times as you want to make it out to be .....Second your account is how old again? let that sink in
Tell me CP_Company, what has changed since then? If Sony wanted Cross Play then why aren't they accepting now? What has changed since then until now? Only difference is Sony is ahead now and if it wasn't arrogance and they truly did want Cross Play back then, then they would jump on this opportunity now. As much as I love my PlayStations I will never understand defending big companies from withholding features from us just because you hate their competitors.
Glad someone said it. I can see why Sony don't want to do it because as of right now, the other platforms would stand to gain more than they would but ultimately 2-3 years down the line when game populations are dwindling, this feature could be a godsend. It helped keep Shadowrun alive on 360/PC long after just about everyone forgot about the game.
Console launch exclusives are just as anti-consumer, yet nearly all of the X1 player base supports it. Stop picking and choosing which anti consumer practices you are and are not okay with if your message is to be against anti consumerism.
Ridiculous statement tbh. Sure, crossplay is a sweet thought and a good one, I agree, but that does not excuse the reasons as to why MS first now is asking for it. PS has been the winner every generation and they have been open for crossplay, but MS did not want to have anything to do with it. Except for now? I get that gamers gets pissed, but this is business. I'm not missing out on ant action so I can't complain. I have never had issues getting matches for multiplayer games. I just want people to realise that this isn't just about the gamers. MS is pulling som pretty cheap shots right now. Not even Sony handled it like this when MS refused. Like a sore loser.
you just figure sony fans run this site???? if there is a negative article about sony, it wont get through, if not mods, the sony fans on here will flagged the article.........but i am okay with it, I am on #SwitchPS4 team
@JackStraw "The reason why most PS4 simply don't care...." Again why do Sony fanboys on this site feel like they speak for the majority of PS4 owners lol
Microsoft's Cross Network play involves putting Xbox Live on other platforms. Microsoft could have just done Cross Platform play that has been around for years.
Rocket league is done on rocket leagues own servers. They say so in the article
@MegaManXXX and because it was free you cuck.
Wouldnt hurt, but not good for their business
I'd like to be able to play with my friends on other consoles. Does nobody else have friends who have bought different consoles or even PCs?
This Is For The Players...
Want cross play on PlayStation? make.believe
No, remember it's 4 the children
I would play Rocket League again if this happened.
I don't care for cross play, people making it into a big deal, it's really not.
just like Backwards Compatibility.. or UHD players... how many little things have to add up before it becomes a big deal though?
if I thought BC and UHD player was so important I wouldn't have bought a PS Pro, they aren't big deals not to me anyways.
UHD doesn't matter for gaming.
But none of those things ARE a big deal. I think Xbox fans want them to be a big deal, because it distracts from their software shortcomings, but they really aren't. Certainly not to me, or any of my friends who own PS4.
Big deal? My family owns 4 PS3's bud, we own 3 PS4s.... Trust me...BC isn't a big deal to many who actually can afford to keep their systems. Sorry but its a non-issue. I mean, I'm sure BC is HUGE ISSUE for Switch, DOOOOOM I mean its a " big deal " bro /s
@bluefox755 - 4K TV owners that want to purchase 4K media care. I had to spend a couple of hundred dollars on a separate player instead of just having an Xbox One X that would have done it all for me (or my PS4 Pro having it included). So how is that not a big deal for someone like me? Just because you don't care means the world shouldn't? @EDMIX - the PS4 was my first Sony console so I didn't have any of the previous ones. Switch physically can't do backwards compatibility, so I wouldn't even use that in this equation. Not since the previous 2 Nintendo generations had backwards compatibility with the system before it. Why would you want to keep your old system if you could just play the games on a newer system. With a TV stand with only so much space I have an SNES, UHD Player, Home Theatre Receiver, PS4 Pro, Cable Box, 360, Wii U, NES Mini and a Switch dock on top to the side. I mean how many things am I expected to keep inside it just to go along with your logic?
@HarryPuttar - if you own a 4K TV and want to watch the best quality media, then sure. Netflix 4K is like checkerboard 4K if that helps give it context. I would prefer native 4K. Compression on streamed 4K media is ridiculous.
@Neonridr Okay, let me rephrase that, it's "not a big deal for most people". All of this entitled crying lately from people who have no interest in Playstation to begin with is just silly. "Why doesn't Sony devote resources to catering to a tiny minority of gamers!?! WHAT ABOUT WHAT I WANT?!?" I'm sorry man, but it all sounds fake. I don't buy for a second that most of the people complaining about this even own a Sony console. You all are trying to distract from the absence of a decent software library by focusing on things that nobody cares about. Maybe I'm completely wrong, but plenty of my friends are gamers, and these complaints literally never come up outside of internet comment boards. Sorry, I just don't buy it.
With regard to UHD. Physical media is a dying market with regard to movies. Most people just prefer convenience over quality. Most people are not audio/videophiles and will take a great looking streaming video with a button press over "the best" looking Bluray that they have to go out and buy. And the ones who ARE audio/videophiles tend to buy dedicated hardware anyway. Just look at the numbers, physical media movie sales are dropping double digit percentages every year, why would Sony be concerned with this? This isn't even about personal preference anymore, it's common sense.
@bluefox - I agree that it is a niche market. But it's still nice when a company includes little things like this. I agree that the majority of people don't care about native 4K. What they see on Netflix or upscaled content looks good enough to them. At the end of the day it's not turning me away from my Pro, but would have been nice if I didn't have to shell out $300 for a separate player.
@Neo- " PS4 was my first Sony console so I didn't have any of the previous ones" Soooo why is that Sony's fault? If you didn't like PS enough to buy PS3 or PS2 etc that simply means its not a value enough for you to even care THAT much. So I find it hard to see something as a "big deal" that you didn't even see fit enough to BUY LAST GEN! You had 10 years to buy a PS3, legit, for $80 used you can buy a PS3, you choose not to. You don't want it ENOUGH if you had 10 years and still don't own one. Its a "big deal" yet not enough for you to buy it? Please bud, spare me with your non-issues please. Get a job, earn more, buy it if you want etc. I own a PS3, I like my PS3 games, thus I'm not selling it, not now...not ever. It is a VALUE to me thus, I keep it. PS4 is RIGHT next to my PS3.....its a "big deal" enough for me to not sell it and even buy a slim for my parents who kept using my old PS3 for Netflix. When PS5 comes out...I'm not selling my PS4's bud, my family owns a few and we have no plans to get rid of them for PS5....as they are "big deals" enough for us not to sell them in the first place. Get out of here with those first world short bus issues. That can be fixed for as low as $80 if you want it THAT bad. Can you pay $80 to have Scalebound? Fable 4? But by all means, BC is a "big deal' some thing that can be bought, vs something that CAN'T BE BOUGHT is a 'big deal". Fake issues bud. Switch has no BC, you simply paid for ports like Breath Of The Wild, Mario Kart 8 etc. Why wasn't no BC a "big deal" there? " I mean how many things am I expected to keep inside it just to go along with your logic?" You don't have storage space? LMFAO! More fake issues? How about you bring them out when you need them I don't buy your playing 10 systems at once bud..., yet you have no issue with a Wii U out with a Switch? Yet Zelda and Mario Kart 8 where PORTED to that system? but no issue there huh? Its a stupid "problem" bud. Your crying over a system you choose to not even support. If you want it, buy it. You can't buy Anthem or Destiny 2 for Switch, you can't buy Fable 4, you can't buy Scalebound. I'd say a real "big deal" is something you can't solve by BUYING. Get a job...that might fix that issue, but it can't fix Switch having very little AAA 3rd party support and can't fix MS having very little exclusives.
@EDMIX - lol, you might want to check yourself buddy. I am 37 with a wife, 2 kids, a job and a mortgage. Enjoy living in your parents basement still while us "grown ups" have real responsibilites. I own a PS4 (Pro), Switch, 3DS, Vita, Wii U, PSVR, Rift, Gaming PC. Pretty sure I have spent enough money on my video game addiction. Unlike you who only owns Sony products and claims to actually know what it's like to be a gamer. Sample all of life's goods, and then come talk to me.
You don't want it because you've never had it. Doesn't mean it's a bad feature.
Who said it was a bad feature? Most people are just saying they don't care about it, it's a non-issue for most gamers, which is why it's so bizarre to see one side pushing it so hard.
Just because something isn't a big deal to you doesn't mean it's not to someone else.
Judging by the posts over the past few articles the only people Uta a big deal to are xbots who are just trying to justify their future Xonex purchase.
