Never played this so looking forward to this! Blue Point rules!

MrSec842872d ago

Same here, I wonder if Ico will get remade as well, because I never played that either.
It would be awesome to see both given this kind of treatment.

My god this looks like a movie, but it's clearly gameplay. Blue Games are legendary!!

UltraNova2872d ago

Indeed...these guys should be funded to make their own game or even develop someone elses IP, they seem to know their staff.

XisThatKid2872d ago

This is like my ocarina of time. re-releasing it again, I'll buy it again.

darthv722871d ago

No doubt the game looks great but it is rather odd as to why and I really can only think of one reason. To try and recoup some of the $$ Sony put towards TLG. Granted the remake (and remaster) were being done by a different studio than TLG but they are using a property that is very near and dear to Team Ico.

The original game came in 2005 and in 2011 Bluepoint did the HD remaster with new content (that was missing from the NA ver) as well as new textures and assets and improved the fluidity and overall feel of the game. Now in 2018 they are remaking their remaster.

It is a very revered game and one that still stands the test of time for how ambitious it was but come on.... It's a money grab through and through. And yes pretty much any game made is for $$ but this one is especially telling because it had already received a quality remaster.

This is no different than a music studio who releases a remastering of a classic album because of new audio techniques that make it so you can hear every tiny detail that went into the recording. come to think of it.... Sony is a media company who does that sort of thing ALLOT.

Oh well, it is what it is and that is fan service. I'll still buy it because I'm a fan like the next guy.

MrSec842871d ago

@darthv72: There's nothing odd about giving a cult classic video game the first class remake treatment SoTC is getting, it certainly has nothing to do with trying make money on a completely separate title which has already sold enough units to make a small profit for Sony.

This is a passion thing, no question about it, as much as haters like yourself will try to deflect from the reality of this existing, the very fact it looks like a brand new game shows how much Sony cares about the medium of video games and true artistic vision.
Sony had this made by the best talent for the job because they want a true classic to become the best version of itself it can be, they want it out there for fans and those that never played the game to enjoy in the best possible light.

Easily one of the best games ever and the idea of it getting a full remake is amazing, Bluepoint has proven to be very trustworthy for these types of things so I have no worries. Just wish Sony would have SOMETHING new releasing this year but all they have is Uncharted and Horizon DLC...this is the second year in a row they don't have a major holiday title.

Jeff2572872d ago

They do have Knack 2 releasing in September and while it may not be what one would call a "major" title it could be a lot better than the first and turn into a major hit for Sony. Also Sony has gotten better about releasing great titles across the year and not waiting until the holiday season when we usually see the big publishers releasing a glut of 3rd party games where exclusives can sometimes get lost.

Summons752872d ago

Knack 2, even if it is better than the first isn't going to even be a console selling title. Sure Sony has gotten better at releasing stuff all year which is always nice but after Uncharted and arguably Knack 2? It's dry. Not that MS has anything in the holiday season either leaving Mario to take the holiday by storm. It'd just be nice to have something big in the holiday. God of War would have been perfect but even SOTC would have been amazing but again we are left waiting a whole year or more for these games with Detroit still not even having a release date. The first quarter of this year was welcomely busy but the Holiday's still need something to stand out beside the generic Call of Duties or Assassin's Creed multiplatform games.

Jeff2572872d ago

@Summons75

Knack 2 isn't supposed to be a system selling title, but it is a good example of the variety that Sony keeps pushing on the system. SOTC remake also won't be a system selling title but it also doesn't need to be. God Of War however will be releasing early next year, so no we aren't forced to wait a whole year or more for more exclusives. Also we don't know when next year Spider-Man is coming out and whether it is early next year, the summer, or holidays but that one is arguably a system seller. I certainly am good on the exclusives we have had as there are several I still don;t have from previous years as well as multiplat tittles I still want to get. I for one will have plenty to play this holiday and it doesn;t have to be extremely new games either.

_-EDMIX-_2872d ago

@Summ-with Ni no Kuni 2, Yakuza remake , Final Fantasy 12 remaster ,Knack 2, Uncharted Lost Legacy not to mention all the major 3rd party games I think Sony actually has more than enough to move a ridiculous number of units this fall.

It would have been nice to have God of War but I believe Sony's main focus should be releasing quality not trying to meet specific release dates because at the end of the day the people who want God of War will buy a PlayStation 4 this fall to get a great game in the spring.

Sony E3 showing might have already solidified people to purchase PlayStation 4 this fall anyway , you have to remember that these consoles are investments to Consumers, they're not simply buying it for what they could play right now, they're also buying it for what they know they could play tomorrow.

Because Sony already owns the vast majority of the actual console Market I actually don't think they care about what's being released in the fall they simply care that consumers already know that they're delivering content for the future.

As generic as those games are you have to realize they literally move 25 to 13 million units yearly.

What you personally think about those games is not really that relevant just understand that somebody wants those games and the numbers very much shows how powerful those properties are.

Sony already knows they could rely on those properties to move a vast amount of units for them this fall.

_-EDMIX-_2872d ago

I was a little worried only cuz blue point games has never done something quite as huge as this but from the looks of it Sony Japan is assisting.

I really wish God of War was this fall but I have complete faith in that studio to deliver an amazing game so I'm okay with the majority of what's releasing for the rest of this year as it's still extremely jam-packed.

Like literally the rest of the Year is already booked for me with games.

Hardiman2872d ago

It seems a lot of folks missed the pre show.

deadfrag2872d ago

Yes but the holidays are pack with third party games,New Colussus,Evil Within 2,COD,...Sony made the right choise in releasing the new pack of AAA exclusives at the first half of 2018 like they did this year. They will sell more.

Liqu1d2872d ago (Edited 2872d ago )

GT Sport, Knack 2, Hellblade, Uncharted TLL, Horizon DLC, Ni No Kuni 2 & Matterfall will be released this year. That's in addition to games that have already released and Crash will be out soon.

eferreira2872d ago

So a new uncharted game, knack 2, horizon dlc amd GT sport isn't enough?

Ryuujinjakka2872d ago

I'd get it only if it's a full remake. Already finished the game 3 times (Agro! Agrooooo! Nooooo!). I just want them to add side quests, random ennemies and maybe some RPG elements.

Liqu1d2872d ago

So ruin the game? No thanks.

Ryuujinjakka2872d ago

Sorry but the "magic" of SOTC doesn't work on me anymore. As I said I want a full remake or a sequel but not the same game with only improved graphics.

khala2872d ago

WTF lol. The whole concept of SotC was minimalism. Stripping away everything that is unnecessary, so to speak, or doesn't add to the gameplay or story. This is by Fumito Ueda's own admission. To go completely against that is going against the very essence of the game and essentially becomes like many other RPGs and open world games. It takes away the very thing that made SotC so unique. Side quests, random enemies and RPG elements. Stupidest thing ever lol.

Ryuujinjakka2872d ago

I got my opinion, you got yours. But next time let's meet face to face before calling me stupid...

UCForce2872d ago (Edited 2872d ago )

@Irre-Izzy No, You got your opinion but that's poorly executed. SoTC need to stick the original. Look what happened to Phantom Dust, the remastered is free to play and have micro transactions which ruined the original game vision.

BlaqMagiq12872d ago

All the stuff you want would defeat the purpose of the game. The Colossi were the only enemies for a reason.

khala2872d ago

Yeah mate, I didn't call you stupid. I called your suggestion stupid. Maybe learn to read.

EmperorDalek2872d ago

Wonder if it'll have a secret new colossus or something... probably wishful , but it'd be cool.

Overload2871d ago

There was a bird that was cut from the final version.

EmperorDalek2871d ago

There were quite a few cut from the original release. Originally I think there was supposed to be 48(?) colossi, then that was scaled down to 24. 24 were actually made, and you can see that in a few empty battle areas on the map.

GrmpyolGamer 2872d ago

A remake of a remaster. But Sony is against BC? Sony is anti consumer but they will keep doing it until you fanboys call them out, which u never will so prepare to keep buying the same game over and over again

Imalwaysright2872d ago

I'm starting to think that the PS5 won't be BC as well.

GrmpyolGamer 2872d ago

If they can re sell you all the games you already brought this generation then it probably wont be

The PS2 is one of the most celebrated consoles of all time, and what makes it better is that a lot of its games have managed to age better than most.

Wayyy to many games to list but the first 3 that popped in my head.
1.Okami
2.ESPN NFL 2K5
3.GTA San Andreas

DarXyde145d ago

Good list, but I would replace Onimusha with a Onimusha 2.

Amplitude145d ago

Amplitude still holds up brilliantly

Agent75145d ago

I'd say Onimisha 2 and Turismo 4 was better. Maximo, Auto Modellista, Shox, Wipeout Fusion and pulse, Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution to name a few.

piroh151d ago

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic151d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23151d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger141d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.
