The Xbox One X's Problem Isn't the Price, it's the Console

The Xbox One X is priced fairly, but judging from its E3 presentation it's going to struggle.

I haven't clicked on the link. Is David Carnoy still with CNet? That headline sounds exactly like some of his shill work.

Anyone disappointed with the Xbox Ones relatively low horsepower is going to have a great experience with XBOX.

TheOttomatic912929d ago

I'm a huge Sony fanboy but I disagree completely with this article the XB1X looks like a fantastic console especially due to how small it is especially considering it's the most powerful console built until the next gen but the price is the only reason I won't be getting it anytime soon.

Bigpappy2929d ago

You seem genuine, so I will respond by saying you have a ligit gripe. But you have to think of it from M$ perspective. They need to try and make a return on investment. For the first 6 months or so, it may be very difficult to get your hands on an X1-X. It takes a while to get production really going, and I am predicting that many Xbox owners will trade and upgrade. X1X is the type of aggressive power Xbox owners wanted from the 1st X1. Not 4K in the original, but 1080 / 60 would have made a huge difference in pleasing the 360 base that we're moving to next gen.

TheOttomatic912929d ago

Thank you for your response its very rare to have a tempered and well though out response. My admittedly knee jerk response was more to the article saying that the XB1X itself was the problem which I find ridiculous the console is excellent but once again for me personally I can't afford it at least not this year.

GamingIVfun2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

Yes, a lot of current Xbox One owners will trade up for the Xbox One X. Problem is it does not increase the install base, Microsoft will be able to show some good sales numbers early on, but replacing an old console with a new one, like I said does not increase install base and you have to increase install base to sell more games. Also mainstream consumers will not pay $499.99 for a console, average consumer uptake has never taken off until a consoles price hits around $299.99. PS4 pro is proof of that, it's a slow sell at $399.99

Personally a $499.99 refresh console released in the fourth year of a console generation isn't a good idea in my opinion.

PS4 Pro releasing in third year of this generation at $399.99 probably wasn't the best idea.

conanlifts2929d ago

The price is actually great for the power underneath. The issue I see is the lack of 1st party games. Multiplatform games might have a slight resolution bump from 1800p-4k compared to pro, but I don't think it will be too noticeable. In addition I do not think third party publishers will spend a lot of time tweaking the settings in comparison to the pro. This is where 1st party games would usually come in and take advantage of the hardware. But so far MS have ltd 1st party games coming up. Plus those that are coming up like sea of thieves and state of decay 2 are not graphical showcases.
For me I still "might" buy one. The reason is a have a 4k tv and ltd 4k content. So I am considering it, although I think MS did a poor job at E3 with their games.

theXtReMe12929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

Another PS4 owner here. I love the power behind the X, as said above... the lack of AAA first party games to take advantage of that power is the main issue. Microsoft didnt do themselves any favors in the conference either, by showing Forza, Crackdown and Sea Of Thieves... which people already have seen. Not a mention of Halo, Gears or anything enticing other than Third Party games, which all looked good.

Im going to buy one for Forza and to play the already released titles that get an upgrade and hopefully 4K texture packs. I have always loved Dead Rising since the first, so to be able to play 4 in 4K(hopefully 60fps) and with 4K textures, would be awesome. Im hoping that Sunset Overdrive gets the treatment, also, as that looked awesome. The Witcher 3 is another that would be incredible at 4K/60. Though, Im thinking they arent going to go for 60 and instead focus on turning all of the effects and lighting up to 11. I also cant wait to see and play Madden in 4K and I really do hope its 60fps like Fifa was on the Pro. Between 4K, 60fps, 4K textures and hopefully global illumination... Madden will finally get the visual shot in the arm it deserves.

Im hoping Ace Combat 7 gets the treatment also, along with Elite and any other flight combat game... as its my favorite genre. I wish some of the sims from PC would make their way over.

Its a very impressive machine and Im going to enjoy owning two separate consoles for the first time in gaming history. Which will give me the best of both worlds and almost all of the games I love.

conanlifts2929d ago

@theXtReMe1.
To be honest i don't currently own a ps4. I did, but then sold it last year. Currently i own a pc, switch and xbox. I would like another ps4 but i already have a huge backlog. The reason for sticking with xbox is that to a certain extent i am stuck with the brand. I game against family members who live thousands of miles away and only own xbox consoles. In addition xbox allows me to share my games with my son. So i can buy digital multiplayer games like destiny 2 and we can then game against each other on our 2 consoles . Not sure if i can do this on a ps4. My plan is to rebuy a ps4 when TLOU 2 is released.

Da12RespectA2929d ago

The problem with Xbox are these idiots writing these articles

XanderZane2929d ago

Not worried about the XBox One X. I have a lot of 3rd party and 1st party games I want to play on it in 4K. I just hope all the OG XBox games will play on it, but I have a feeling it will just be the ones that were converted to play on the XBox 360.

Hanilugtehul2929d ago

And you shouldnt be worried The xbox one x looks like a great console:)

Da12RespectA2929d ago

As long as Crimson skies, Mech assault and Kotor make the cut I'm good

theXtReMe12929d ago

Man, do I wish Crimson Skies would get a remake. Along with Conker and Kameo. Loved those games.

MagicBeanz2929d ago

No the price is a major problem.

kickerz2929d ago

It is expensive. Im gonna trade in my old xbox one in. Might get $100 cheaper.

343_Guilty_Spark2929d ago

So it should do more than the PS4 Pro, have UHD BLU RAY, have significantly better specs, and cost the same?

Stick3572929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

Thank you for this post. I swear the morons on this site are mind numbing.

tgunzz2929d ago

I am sure there are some gamers on here who dropped more than this in sit dollas at the strip club, and didn't even get the pantie drawls but, the xbx is too expensive....

gangsta_red2929d ago

Well, since you put it like that..

MagicBeanz2928d ago

Funny I'm not the one comparing it to PS4 Pro you are. The price is an issue and I'm not the only one who has said as much, so deal with it.

So the extra $100 is a problem even though you get a 4k bluray player. Yet Sony fans will have no issue paying for Shadow of the Colossus for a third time.

Here's a way you can save a lot more than $100. Buy an Xbox One X and never pay $60 for an upgrade on a game you already own again. When we move to 8k Xbox and PC owners will already have 8k games. BC is guaranteed and the games will scale with a patch. There isn't currently a guarantee PS5-6 will have BC.

UnHoly_One2929d ago

Sony fans don't want BC. It's stupid and who wants to play old games?

"What was that? I can pay 60 bucks for a game you've already sold to me twice for 60 bucks a pop? Hell yes! Megaton!!"

Do they not see the irony of this?

Razzer2929d ago (Edited 2929d ago )

Uh....you guys are under the false impression that everyone has already played SotC. And this is a remake. Didn't hear much complaints about that when they were said to be remaking Phantom dust. Why the hell MS bothered with the Master Chief Collection? You guys must have been pissed that they sold you that and then revealed a few months later that you could just play the 360 version through BC.

You asked about irony.

UnHoly_One2929d ago

You're missing the point. I never said it was bad that they were remaking this game.

It's just that all I hear is how stupid it is to play old games, and that BC is pointless because "who buys a new console to play old games?"

Then everyone gets excited for a 12 year old game.

I realize it's a remake, but it's a remake of a 12 year old game.

And for the record, I love Shadow of the Colossus and will totally buy this.

dcbronco2929d ago

Phantom Dust is free and the MCC was seven games five games, not one. See the difference.

But the real point is Microsoft has eliminated the need for re-masters and re-makes. Dynamic resolution and patches are in the best interest of the player. Do you prefer to pay again?

MagicBeanz2928d ago

Yeah paying for a game versus a console, great comparison chief. Here's an even better way to save $500, buy all the "exclusive" xbox games for PC and dont waste your money on an irrelevant console.

dcbronco2928d ago (Edited 2928d ago )

Hey Just Beanz, you're suggesting I pay the $1000-1200 it would cost for a comparable PC. That makes sense. I'm not stupid enough to pay ridiculous prices for a few more frames. If you're paying top dollar because your PC is required for your business fine. If it's the main thing you use your discretionary income on fine. But if you you're the average Joe with additional interest or other responsibilities you would be a fool to pay $1200 for something you could get for $500. So slow down Sparky. That console keeps you from ever buy another re-master. If frame rate and 4k actually matter to you and you own a PlayStation, I see paying twice for a few games.

UnHoly_One2929d ago

Seems like a steal to me at that price.

ASSASSYN2929d ago

That's a personal problem.

XanderZane2929d ago

Not for me it isn't. I also thought about trading or selling the original XBox to put toward the new Xbox One X. The price is fine for me, but other more casual gamers will probably wait for it to get to $399 in a year or so.

Switching the screens and buttons? Nah. Some person wanted to look good to someone higher up. Demonstrating how many people buy the content will demonstrate it. Even if they have to reverse it later. Totally scummy.

It’s like a car dealership selling extended warranty in a scummy way. Even if they have to refund them later, it will technically show somewhere that they sold it and make them look good for something.

OtterX6h ago

I can't believe this game came out 2 years ago already. I uninstalled it 1 year & 10 months ago.

CrimsonWing694h ago

I really enjoyed Diablo 4, but the cost of skins and various content are absurd and kind of insulting. I think like outfits were $20, I heard the Berserk stuff is ways more expensive. It’s just nuts that this is the direction they want to go in. I feel like you’d do better n sales making these like $1-$5, but what do I know?

It's Immortal: Dark. They ruined this awesome franchise.
