Maybe you should stop calling this a remaster because it is obviously not. It is an entire new graphic engine and all assets have been redone. Maybe that way some people will give you less shit for not being able to make a old game "remastered" run at 60 fps

Also there seems to be a typo there. The article mentions PS4 pro twice about the performance of the game. The game will run at 1440p on PS4 and will be upscaled from there to 4k on Pro, and FPS will remain the same.

Nitrowolf22925d ago (Edited 2925d ago )

people would give them shit if it was a remake, because at that point they have no reason why you shouldn't run at a higher FPS.

From what I understand the reason why it's not considered a full remake like other titles is because they're building from the original levels?

ninsigma2925d ago

They call it a remaster plus instead of a remake because it plays exactly like the originals. Every piece of code is new, all the assets are from scratch and music is re-done but it still plays just like the ps1 games. So they went with not calling it a remake for that reason. I think calling it a remake would have fine though.

TWB2924d ago (Edited 2924d ago )

Marketing. Remaster is a very recognizable term, and gives people the impression that these are the same games as the ones on PS1. If they called them remakes, some could think of something like the 2016 R&C remake.

Whatever, there really wasnt a rock solid definition in gaming for remasters either way. You cant exactly even use the same definition as in music because of large technical differences between the artforms. You cant really remaster code, while you can remaster sound and assets from the original source/studio/dev assets.

Concertoine2924d ago (Edited 2924d ago )

I can't believe no one cares a remake/remaster/WHATEVER of a platformer from the 90's is running at 30 fps. Platformers, especially hard ones like Crash, are wholly deserving of prioritizing the better control of higher framerate over visual fidelity.

It's ridiculous, there were more games in the ps2 era that weren't afraid to run at 60 fps locked. Now in 2017, not only is the PS4 not running this at 60 fps, but the UPGRADED Pro isn't either? Why has this standard of 30 fps, long loading times, and general technical laziness become acceptable?

Cobra9512924d ago (Edited 2924d ago )

@Concertoine: 30 fps, long loading times, and spending all the new graphics power on resolution alone. That's how the future of consoles looks to me right now. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so. Next year will tell.

There is no typo, they are only talking about the Pro...

Otherwise it wouldn't actually have Pro support, (regular) upscaling is automatic so if PS4 and Pro both render at 1440p, nothing would change for the Pro...

The PS4 version supposedly runs at 1080p@30fps tho...

Ohh and no, this is an actual remaster, not a port or a remake...

AspiringProGenji2925d ago

Oh ok I guessed it was a typo since it says "On PlayStation 4 pro," then in the next paragraph it say "on PS4 pro."

TWB2924d ago

Depends what you consider a remaster. In my eyes, remasters have always been just enhanced ports, since in non-gaming context remastering always meant that you take the original product and then try to remix a better end result from the original assets, or using the existing assets. In movies for example, you go through the original film material shot in considerably higher quality than what is released on home video, then you recut the film in higher detail, and if its old enough to have originally been 4:3, release it in widescreen.

Something along the lines of Metro Redux would be a great example of a game remaster, while something like the Dishonored Remaster is just a port.

DeadSilence2925d ago

Hopefully super sampling on 1080p sets, could have been 1800p but resources are limited so I guess they didn't put much effort into Pro since Ratchet looks amazing on Pro.

zivtheawesome2925d ago

really doesn't matter with the type of game it is. 1440p30fps is perfectly fine for this.

Darkwatchman2925d ago

Take a look at this and take a look at ratchet and clank which is leagues above this visually running at 30fps, but with checkerboard rendering utilizing a starting resolution of around 3200x1800; a monumental increase in resolution over 1440p. This collection should have been capable of 60fps on BOTH ps4 and ps4 pro. It doesn't look that good, but if it's going to be stuck at 30fps on the pro, they can sure as hell go further than 1440p unless they push the assets above the base console, which I doubt they are.

Guyfamily9992925d ago

What disappoints me most is that I thought the game on all hardware ran at 60. The reveal trailer was in silky smooth 60fps.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

I'm still gonna buy the game but I feel deceived. I was under the impression that the game was gonna run at 1080p60 on PS4 and like 1800p60 on Pro. Really disappointed. I personally don't think the graphics are THAT good, but I was excusing that because it ran at 60. But it doesn't. Merp.

butchertroll2925d ago

You should realize that 30fps is a developers choice.

Cobra9512924d ago

@Guyfamily: If you feel deceived, how can you still approve it with your wallet?

@butchertroll: Yes, the wrong choice.

jstark2925d ago (Edited 2925d ago )

dont give any respect to mario jr

Concertoine2924d ago (Edited 2924d ago )

I'm gonna wait for a sale since the developers didn't bother to get this running at 60 frames.

_LarZen_2925d ago

Jesus Christ....one more 1440p (2K) game on the Pro. You would think that a game like that would run at least at 1800p+.

Grievous2925d ago

1440p is not 2K. Not even close. 2K is a movie industry resolution and has only slightly more pixels than 1080p.

2pacalypsenow2925d ago (Edited 2925d ago )

1080p is 2k, 2048x1080.

2560x1440 is more like 3k

TardcoreGamer2925d ago

nope. 1080p (FHD) is 1k. 1440p (WQHD)is often refered to as 2k. and 2160p is UHD aka 4k. Confused yet?

2pacalypsenow2925d ago (Edited 2925d ago )

How is it 1k, if it's a resolution of 2048 (2k for two thousand lines) or 1920 FHD for consumer aspect ratio ?? I think you're the one confused here. If anything 720 would be considered 1k since double that is close to 1080 (2k) and 4 times 1080 is 2160 (4K)

SonyWarrior2925d ago Show
2pacalypsenow2925d ago (Edited 2925d ago )

Lol nope 4k means there is 4 thousand vertical pixels multiplied by horizontal ones. 4k doesn't stand for 4x the resolution. Otherwise it would be 4X not 4k. 4K is a marketing term for tv's since they cannot achieve over 4000 vertical pixels at a 16:9 Aspect ratio, but 3840x2160 is still considered 4k in the consumer level, it just sounds better than 2160p.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

And being ignorant is no reason to be rude.

Try again.

nitus102925d ago (Edited 2925d ago )

The following site gives a fairly straightforward but comprehensive discussion on the TV resolution confusion: 1080p, 2K, UHD, 4K, 8K, and what they all mean. https://www.cnet.com/au/new...

Well worth the read since you really cannot explain the differences in one or two sentences.

Cobra9512924d ago (Edited 2924d ago )

1080p = 1920x1080
2K (theater) = 2048×1080
4K (theater) = 4096×2160
4K (home) = 3940x2160

TV standards go by vertical pixel count, while theater goes by horizontal pixel count (which explains why 1080p is very close to 2K). Or they used to, because now they're calling what should be 2160p "4K" on televisions.

These standards are easy to look up, guys. Giyf

50% off $60.. price hasn't been $60 for a while now.

darthv722441d ago (Edited 2441d ago )

Well, some stores will tend to raise the price of something just before they put it on sale to make it seem like its getting a big discount. That way they may make it look like they are losing 50% but in reality they may only be losing 30-40%

Eidolon2441d ago

this case it's like 20% tops. It's been under $40 with deals like this since early this year.
