Why Nintendo's New Online System is Both Baffling and Genius

Poli Games' host, Joseph, talks about Nintendo's new online service, which is premiering in early 2018. Nintendo has spilled the beans about their new online service and has given gamers most of what they have planned for the Nintendo Switch Online service from price, features like party chat, and a Game Pass like retro service. Joseph breaks it down and answers that age old questions, is it worth it?

Is it worth it? What kind of question is that? It's not like you have a choice if you want to play online on this device after 2018

JayPi32945d ago

But you have the choice to not play online, or just play locally split screen or with other people with Switch consoles.

iofhua2945d ago

Which is exactly what you should do if they aren't going to sell you a full-featured online service.

I'm not connecting my phone to my console to chat with friends. This is garbage.

freshslicepizza2945d ago

Sure, you have a choice but the value is lower because so many games now feature online play. It's almost at the point of being a requirement.

The price is very good but Nintendo needs to do 2 things for people to even take them seriously. One is it should have some sort of Trophy/Achievement system in place because that has become almost standard now and many enjoy those incentives. The other is the voice chat. There is no need to over-complicvate how to talk to other gamers but for some reason Nintendo wants to continue to babysit the community or is so far behind the tech curve that this is the only band-aid solution they can think of.

@moldybread

Nintendo has done the trophy/achievement thing for a long time. They just have it implemented directly into the game. Personally I think Trohpies/achievements are stupid. They offer nothing, nothing at all. They just show how much time you spend playing games, and personally I don't want people being able to look at how much I play games or what not.

I barely ever chat online, it's annoying for the most part. Squeezers, music players, the ability to be a racist POS without any repercussions. Voice chat is overrated and only necessary in certain games. Yes I think Nintendo should have a better voice chat option, but I could honestly care less about listening to a bunch of fools. Because that is what it is most the time.

zaherdab2944d ago

but u'd miss on all the virtual console games they will give you and take away from you !!!!!!

Monster_Tard2944d ago

@zahdab
They've changed it, now instead of just letting their subscribers have access to a monthly NES game like they had originally suggested, it's now kinda like EA Access but with a collection of NES games (Maybe SNES too) instead, with the added ability to now play these old games online.

Who didn't see this coming from a mile away. This is coming form the same company that sold a 3DS without a charger.

JayPi32945d ago

All companies make lame choices, Sony still hasn't implemented the ability to change usernames on PSN, and MS on the hardware size still require batteries in their controller.

_-EDMIX-_2945d ago

no.....no they don't bud.

Companies make mistakes yes, not the "same" like you see with Nintendo.

We are talking about them still learning about how to add in voice chat....its 2017.

They made the mistake with Wii. ok.....Wii U...fix it, oh they didn't with that either, well Swit-- ok we ares till figuring this out.

Buddy, it was ok for 1 gen, but 10 years later they are still not sure what to do? This isn't rocket science bud, it literally makes people have very little faith in their ability to do this. I personally don't care for their online and moves like this make me care even less.

When I get a Switch, I'm not paying for this crap and I have no plans to use its Online, they are not even in 2006 with their online features bud.

Thats a problem.

thrust2945d ago (Edited 2945d ago )

Batteries are good matey, much better than having to charge every 4 hours that's a semi wired controller rofl

Uken122945d ago

@thrust

Switch pro controller last 40hrs. Joy-Cons last 20hrs. PS4 controller last 3-4 and the cord is 3ft. I don't mind batteries but it can be annoying, as long as the controllers charge last long enough.

Aenea2945d ago

@thrust

My PS4 controllers last way longer than 4 hours, more around 7 to 8. If I'm still playing then I grab my other controller and put the first on the charger. Way more convenient than to replace those stupid batteries...

thrust2945d ago (Edited 2945d ago )

@aenea,You have to have 2 controllers then, omg it gets worse!

Aenea2944d ago (Edited 2944d ago )

Of course, if you can game more than 8 hours in one sitting than you can't afford to buy another controller 😜

The model is pure garbage. Unless they include lobbies and voice chat in the console, there's no reason to pay for online. Both of these features are expected as standard for "online play" if they are offloading it to a cell phone app, they have no right to charge you money for it.

I plan on getting a Switch, but if this is their model it will be a cold day in Hell before I ever pay for NIntendo Online. Fuck no.

Nintendo cut corners on the switch where they shouldnt have... It really is going to be these mistakes thats going to hold the full potential back. Yeah a lot of the switch is good enough but i expected them to take gaming much more seriously after the wiiu. I want to see how well this thing does when anyone can walk into a store and buy one that wants one.

superchiller2945d ago

Once the initial demand from diehard Nintendo fans is met, Switch sales are going to fall off a cliff. Just a matter of time, 3rd party support is almost nonexistent.
