The Switch’s Long-Term Success Depends on Nintendo’s Online Service

In almost three months since release, Nintendo has made the Switch an almost must-have console for their fans and newcomers alike. This has been aided by the solid lineup of heavy-hitting titles due out almost every month up until the end of the year, but many of these big headline titles are based around their online multiplayer. What some people may have forgotten due to the online still being free for a few months longer is that there is still a paid service coming soon that we don’t know much about. Seeing as Nintendo is branching out more than ever by giving players more options for online titles, the system’s future lies very heavily on how they handle their upcoming service.

That doesn't sound comforting

I have only played Mariokart online and had no problems. Some features could be added but to be honest I'm really getting into living room gaming again and I see this as the way forward for the Switch rather than online.

No it doesn't. It is a gaming machine. The most important thing is that it can play single player games offline. It does that very well. It also does offline co-op better than any other dedicated gaming device out there on the market. It does online pretty well so far as well.

I haven't seen it be any worse than what I get on my PS4, so it hasn't been a hindrance at all.

The most important thing by far is and will always be the game. The Switch will get at least the same support that the 3DS got and most likely a lot more since they, for the time being, are only focusing on the Switch for the most part.

Switch will get games and get a good variety of games as well.....games you can't play on PS4 or XB1, and that is a huge selling point.

Will you be able to get some experiences that you get on PS4....No...there will be some games that are just better on the PS4 and that is ok...the PS4 is a great gaming machine.

But yea As an owner of both I'm excited for E3 and especially what the future of the Switch holds.

Long term? They'll be moving on within 4-6 years home console wise they've never gone longer that 6 years, I predict 5 with this console a year better than Wii U but by then they'll be on to the next Nintendo thing. Only the handhelds do long term original gameboy was out for years then it went colour years later then advance.. by this point Sony had playstation in your pocket. 3ds has done well tho was not reiceved well to start with had a slow start and 7 years later and few million sold not bad at all. Switch just needs to keep banging the games like PS4, make sure their online is top notch as they wanna start charging and get VC up on eshop ASAP. GBA Games on switch along with Gb/GBC etc and all the usual home consoles with Gamecube.
I fear for a 3rd generation tho Nintendo will drip feed the VC games onto the store a week at a time. By the time decent amount are out be shifting consoles again.
