Far Cry 5’s campaign is playable entirely in co-op (update)

But what’s in the season pass?

-Foxtrot2529d ago

Surely they must have seen the complaints against this sort of stuff. People like local co-op...if you are going to put co-op in your game at least give people the option.

I'm really growing tired of Ubisoft and their massive hardon for online stuff.

Nitrowolf22529d ago (Edited 2529d ago )

Yeah, but how many open world titles with far cry 4 Level of GFX (this will probably be better) even support splitscreen co-op story from START to FINISH?

Outside of Borderlands I can't recall any. I know there are some that are only mission based or online vs, but that was a huge complaint with Ubisoft games in general that they have set out to fix with games like The Division and Wildlands (even though I dislike those games). Its not like they aren't listening to those complaints. I remember with Far Cry 4 they advertised co-op like it was some grand thing, and the same with Assassin Creed Unity. When players finally got their hands on the games they were extremely disappointed that it was only mission based and not a start to finish kind of way.

As much as I would want and love local splitscreen, it just may be to much for the consoles to even handle.

freshslicepizza2529d ago

How the heck are you going to play a game like this with these levels of graphics in splitscreen? Sports games, racing games? Sure, but open world games like Far Cry?

-Foxtrot2528d ago

Yeah...it's...."impos sible" right

/s

Summons752528d ago

The same exact way you play coop online...with a friend...being social...

TheColbertinator2528d ago

Anything is possible with Scorpio.

Believe.

TheCommentator2527d ago

Summons, Moldy isn't asking for an explanation of how to use a controller to play games. He's asking about the technical limitations of having to process two different locations of an enormous open world with only one console.

Fox, nobody said it was impossible, but of course any opportunity to attack somebody instead of explain why you disagree you just can't resist.

Colbertinator, grow up.

Why can't you people just explain why it is possible for Far Cry to be local coop? Give us some examples of an open world game like this that supports it? Talk about why it shouldn't be any more of a challenge than any other game that supports local coop already? If all else fails though, why not just STFU and leave people alone?

@-Foxtrot
"Yeah...it's....&quo t;impos sible" right"

Nothing is impossible but is it feasible? I think you just like to complain for the sake of complaining. Who really expects Far Cry 5 with these graphics to be able to handle splitscreen on consoles in an open environment?

It is all too comical how some people whine about the direction developers have pushed towards multiplayer games and then when they ADD features like co-op to a open world single player campaign mode those same people will then whine it's not local co-op. Like I said before, you ALWAYS find something at fault with EVERY game.

It is not reasonable to expect a developer to cater to what is probably a small segment of players who would want local co-op in a game (over online co-op) like this and expect that game to run well enough while retaining decent performance.

-Foxtrot2528d ago

Here we go....

"You this"..."You that"

No one cares man

NarooN2528d ago

All they'd have to do is scale back the graphics accordingly/dynamically when the game is loaded in split-screen. Of course this would all still be computationally intensive on the whole system, as you're basically rendering everything twice in real time. I could see dynamic internal resolution scaling and simply scaling back the intensity/number/detail of textures, particle effects, physics simulation (less CPU cycles), view distance, etc. until you get the performance desired (at least ~30fps.)

This could be brute-forced on PC and be feasible on PS4/X1 and especially PS4 Pro and Scorpio. CPU would hold it back a bit but it'd be doable. Devs did this back in the 5th, 6th, and 7th console gens, don't see why they suddenly decided to stop now... As if games HAVE to maintain the graphical fidelity at all times for anybody to play them... I guess it's relative but I never complained about gfx being scaled down for local split-screen. Spent countless hours on CoD Black Ops 1 and 2 split-screen online and it was blatant how the textures and overall resolution were scaled down, but it didn't matter because we could still see shit and play the game accordingly.

freshslicepizza2528d ago

@-Foxtrot
"No one cares man"

Then tell us all how you expect them to add local co-op splitscreen while retaining the performance? While you are at it show me one game like this (open world with this level of graphics) that offers splitscreen this generation on any console. Otherwise zip it because all you are doing is picking at anything without ever giving a reasonable explanation on hoiw they go about what you want them to do.

Go make your own games, then we can all pick it apart and see how you like it.

Goldby2528d ago

@Fox

just make sure its an xbox/win 10 play anywhere game so that Moldy can actually play it

Lennoxb632528d ago

You've got two choices. Get co-op and your game looks like a last gen game with nothing to do or nothing going on in the world. No co-op, and the game looks exceptional or above. And everyone gets their own screen to enjoy the scenery.

Gazondaily2528d ago

Who uses splitscreen nowadays? I honestly wouldn't bother developing for it.

2528d ago
NarooN2528d ago

How can anybody ever use split-screen when devs never put it into games anymore? It's not like people stopped having friends locally or anything lol.

freshslicepizza2528d ago

@-Foxtrot
"Mmm hmmm"

As expected, all bark no bite.

Bigpappy2528d ago

This is NOT an UBI thing. Most of my co-op games are online and it is rather convenient actually. No problem with them including it, but it is very likely that I personally may never use the feature. I like couch family co-op games, but I would enjoy a game like this more with drop-in online co-op.

IamTylerDurden12528d ago

Ubisoft is turning into EA but honestly Far Cry looks awesome. Online co op is the priority first, and then if you can add in local it's even better, but i honestly prefer a game has online co op if it has to choose 1. Salt n Sanctuary and Gungeon both only had local and i was really missing the option for online. Imagine if Alienation had no online?

XiNatsuDragnel2528d ago

Seriously just like Halo 5 people do care local co op so no no no!!!!

bluebenjamin2528d ago

Graphics has officially fucced up Gaming

The 10th Rider2528d ago

Yeah. It's like when a game is revealed to be 60fps and people are immediately downplaying it for having worse graphics than other games.

I'm like "No shit, Sherlock." It's obvious higher fps is going to cause the graphics to take a hit. Maybe we should praise devs for prioritizing framerate over graphics rather than downplaying it because the game doesn't look as good as 30fps games?

If they prioritized game modes and features over graphics, then the game would look worse, but we could have splitscreen. Heck, it could run 60fps 1080p single-player and 30fps 900p split screen for all I care. There's no excuse for graphics being the highest priority when it comes to things like this.

TripleCs2528d ago

Surprise, surprise. another game this gen that has online co-op but not local co-op just like Uncharted 4, Halo 5 and the list goes on and on. Splitscreen is a dying trend unfortunately. Developers and publishers seem to think that gamers don't talk or hang out with anyone in person and only talk to people online. I expect this trend to continue especially now that you have to pay to play online on both consoles and companies wanna shove their services down your throat.. Honestly I wouldn't be shocked if the next batch of consoles removes the ability for people to play splitscreen all together. The fact that in this day and age people can't even play games with friends that they're with anymore because companies have gotten so greedy is very sad to say the least..

Scar-2528d ago

It's all about the money development time is shorter for online co op and you force fans to buy two individual copies if they want to play together.

Played and enjoyed Far Cry, Far Cry 3 and 4 campaigns .

-Foxtrot46d ago

4 wasn’t so bad

Pagan Min was pretty entertaining

Skuletor46d ago

Yeah, 4 was good, was hard choosing which Golden Dawn member to side with, when they were both pieces of sh!t.
I've beaten all the main entries except 2 and 6, ended up uninstalling 6 to download something else instead.

Profchaos46d ago

I'd love a far cry pack with the original PC game (not the half assed port on ps360) instincts, predator even a port of far cry 2 to modern consoles back when these games had their own identity and weren't far cry 3 cut and pastel

Demetrius46d ago

Still one of my most favorite franchises along with assassins creed

banger8846d ago (Edited 46d ago )

Same here, I don't know why these games get so much hate. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, with only a couple of exceptions. I wish they'd hurry up and announce Far Cry 7. The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumoured time limit.

Far Cry 5 Has Surpassed 30 Million Players Worldwide

The 2018 first-person shooter has reached this milestone exactly 5 years after its initial release.

Profchaos397d ago

When you're free on every single service it's eventually going to happen.

Profchaos397d ago

Part of PS plus at the moment

ChasterMies397d ago

Far Cry 5 is “free” if you pay for PS+ Extra.

gangsta_red397d ago

Going to have to try and get back into Far Cry. The formula for Far Cry may be fun, but it gets repetitive very fast.

Demetrius396d ago

Been playing this series since far cry 3 I love the adventuring vibe this series gives off even far cry primal is so good, but experiencing far cry 5 in 60 fps crisp graphics on ps5 for the first time is dope it adds life to it, I wana give far cry 6 a second chance couldn’t get into it at first I wonder if it’s worth it

Far Cry 5 in native 60 FPS - available for PS5 & Xbox Series consoles now

Far Cry 5 Official Twitter: "You've been waiting long enough… Welcome to Hope County! Experience Far Cry 5 in native 60 FPS - available for PS5 & Xbox Series consoles … NOW! Far Cry 5 will also have a FREE WEEKEND from March 23-27 on all consoles & PC. Enjoy!"

banger88410d ago

Damn. I replayed it recently on SX with fps boost, and to achieve that they had to downgrade the resolution. Game played great but looked like ass. Wish I had've waited.

blackblades410d ago (Edited 410d ago )

So you saying fps boost lowers the resolution to achieve 60fps? Cause that culteastwitch was praising in a fanboy cok suking way.

Darkwatchman410d ago

It depends on the game. Some keep Xbox One X resolution. Others drop to base Xbox One resolution and settings.

Knushwood Butt410d ago

Nice
Waiting to play this on Extra but have had too much else to play.
So is this a native PS5 version or does the PS4 version run at 60fps on PS5?

Jin_Sakai410d ago

As expected, Far Cry 5 will now run at 60 frames-per-second on PS5,

“as part of a patch that optimises the PS4 game on Sony's new-gen console.”

Knushwood Butt410d ago

Downloading now. I might do a bit of pancake gaming this weekend.

Eidolon410d ago

Not native PS5. But still looked pretty good on PS4 Pro, and at a solid 60fps, definitely a good experience. Sadly games can't break out of PS4 Pro resolutions, for some reason.

LucasRuinedChildhood409d ago

PS4 games can run 2-2.5 times better on PS5. They're basically just changing the framerate cap to take advantage of that. They could actually change the resolution but it might affect the framerate - it's not a native PS5 game so it can't properly take advantage of the hardware. 1620p isn't bad, tbh.

Eidolon410d ago

Was really hoping to read that New Dawn would be upgraded as well. :( Already beat Far Cry 5 + and only like 1 hr into New Dawn.

KeeseToast410d ago (Edited 410d ago )

Pretty nice 👍
Now we’ll only need fps boost for:
Arkham Knight
Bloodborne
The Last Guardian
Assassin‘s Creed Unity
Shadow of the Colossus
Gravity Rush 2

Did I forget something?

Welshy410d ago

The worst part about AC Unity is that it *does* run natively at 60fps, but only when running the 1.0 version from the disc. If you allow the game to update, future patches applied a 30fps cap for some reason.

I don't see any reason it would be difficult to just lift the cap that they added.

CML2410d ago

Shadow of the Colossus already runs at 60fps.
Its possible to play The Last Guardian at 60fps with an unpatched disc version too.

Stanjara410d ago

So why not unlock framerate cap on the latest version? Can't be that hard.

CML2409d ago

Probably because the studio doesnt exist anymore. 🥲

LucasRuinedChildhood409d ago (Edited 409d ago )

Absolutely. RDR2 still sells very well so the lack of a next gen version after GTA5 next gen is really annoying.
