Why Was Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed?

Because Rockstar wanted to avoid the sad trend of rushed and buggy AAA games that have been getting released in recent months. Well that and the game is being built from the ground up this gen and won't be a port from last gen like GTAV was. More time is needed to focus on the game engine.

Rockstar has a history of delaying their games, this is nothing new.

Rockstar also has a history of stellar critically acclaimed billion dollar releases. In other words its more possible for Trump to become an educated, well mannered, thoughtfull, people loving President than Rockstar is to release a dissapointing game.

Let them have all the time they need, I m sure RDR2 will rock our socks off, again.

Edit: before anyone jumps at it, yes GTA 4 was not that good but ot wasnt that good by GTA standards because it still blew everything released that year out of the water.

I'm not saying that it is the case with Rockstar, but after working in PR I'm pretty sure delays can be planned to increase hype.
Delays if done right can be a effective PR trick to get renewed media attention and making the game a little more exclusive by making us wait longer. "People want what they can't have" kind of thing. Resulting in increased hype.

Not necessarily. I mean I have no doubt they want release a competent project, but not all delays are production based. Developers already mentioned there were no big hang ups with the game's development leading me to believe the delay is more about hitting a financial window for the company or less competition.

"That means they have longer to work on the game." Not really. A delay in release doesn't mean the developers are given more time and more money to work on the main game--they still have a deadline which they need to hit. In the extra time, mostly likely, DLC will go into development while the game goes through publishing to be shipped which takes about 3 months.

I'm glad it was delayed. By year's end all the AAA multiplayer game consume most of my game time, and when the games die out, rdr releases.

Rockstar, like those amazingly talented wizards at Naughty Dog, strive for perfection. While they all know they'll never achieve that in their respected games, they still strive to achieve that. They take real pride in their work, and pour their hearts & souls into their work. It's sad that this generation some of the bigger developed studios have been all talk or show gameplay that's not a proper representation of their game, be it visuals or whatever.

It's a business, and while making money's important, to help keep these developers being able to provide for their families or themselves, keeping the studios going to produce more games, it's also important to have respect for your craft, and treat it with the utmost respect & care, along with your fans who allow you to keep doing what you love to do. Many developers get lazy & content with their previous work & don't strive to improve or take risks, but Rockstar is not one of them.

When Rockstar announces a release date for any of their games, you can be their will be a delay happening in the near future, which can be annoying. But Rockstar, like Naughty Dog, have a pedigree with delivering highly polished/top quality games, that're always raising the bar for their respected genres, as well as for the game industry as well.

Cuz they are Rockstar and can do whatever they want. Maybe they realized that NOT going head to head with D2, Battlefront 2 and CoD WW2 is a good idea. Not because it wouldn't hold its own, but because releasing all to itself just before summer is much smarter!

Because it wasn't ready greatness comes to those who wait. Haven't all the GTA's been delayed previously some by only a few weeks sure but at end of the day if it's not ready it's not ready.

Marketing strategy; they gave a false-early release date cos they know its an anticipated game so they didn't wanna miss out on free marketing in the past 6 or so months via all those click bait articles of "most anticipated game of 2017" and no so click bait gaming sites' content. Yeah most companies delay their games but R* has been doing it since San Andreas, all the GTAs got delayed for 8+ months since then(not sure about previous RDR).

Well at least in the end it'll be usual R* quality product, using hardwares beyond their limits(GTA V on prev. gen consoles is just pure magic).
