Days Gone Will Appear At E3 2017 ‘In A Big Way’, Says Lead Actor Sam Witwer

One of the biggest reveals of E3 2016 was a new IP from SIE Bend Studios featuring a whole new take on the zombie genre

This will be the time will ppl will decide whether to be hype for it or not. Last yr's presentation was OK and showed that it needed polished. Hopefully they deliver this yr.

Abash2682d ago

I disagree, it was my "Game of E316". I loved the stark realism of the protagonists and I was blown away by the amount of enemies shown coming at the player at once. I know zombie games have been done to death, but Days Gone looked extremely promising and like a zombie game that is striving to raise the bar when it comes to simulating a zombie apocalypse.

OB1Biker2681d ago

Agreed. Thinking of how the demo difficulty was lowered with one shot kill I can imagine how the game will be intense to play. I want to see how the map is set and how you can explore on bike.

bouzebbal2681d ago

I wanna see this so bad, and also The Order sequel. Megaton if it happens

_-EDMIX-_2681d ago

Agreed.

I don't judge games based on enemy type.

That legit tells you NOTHING about a game.

C-H-E-F2680d ago

@bouzebbal

Not many people realize that Sony owns the IP to The Order AND SIE Santa Monica collaborated in a major way on that title itself, although Sony "Fired" Ready At Dawn after the game launched, this can still be possible, I really hope they do give it another try, the game was awesome still one of my favorite games.

DarkOcelet2682d ago (Edited 2682d ago )

I am sure they will deliver, all it needs is some polishing but the way the enemies charged at the protagonist like that was impressive and really scary. If they nail the story and the gameplay then we could be looking at another masterpiece for the PS4.

DarXyde2681d ago

Gameplay, yes. I don't see story as a necessary part of being a masterpiece. An amazing game is amazing, regardless of narrative.

Games like The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 have great gameplay that's complemented by the story and made it a very memorable experience, but not the deciding factor of their quality in my opinion.

I liked what I saw of Days Gone last year, but I'll withhold judgment until we see what's up this year. A lot could have changed, for better or worse. I think any changes will be positive, but I am curious to see what kind of storytelling they'll go with.

DarkOcelet2681d ago

@DarXyde

Gameplay is important yeah but story in my opinion elevates a game and make it so much more memorable. If TLOU didn't have a great story and just its gameplay, i dont think it would have garnered the praise it got. Same goes for Witcher 3 and tons of other games.

DarXyde2681d ago

DarkOcelet,

I don't disagree that it adds to a game, but the idea of dependence, well, I can't agree that that makes a great game.

A terrible game with a great story is a bad game. A fun game with a terrible story is a fun game.

OB1Biker2681d ago

Last year was awesome. They just need to show a great trailer going more in details story wise (its story driven) and with extensive gameplay, not just the shooting, but more about the map, the upgrades for weapons, bike etc

I'm hoping for playable demos too.

dRanzer2681d ago

Maybe you saw MS presentation

thekhurg2681d ago

Last years reveal was amazing. Not sure what you're going on about.

TKCMuzzer2681d ago

I think the disagrees say everything. I too disagree, i'm not even a zombie fan but the amount of zombies chasing the player did seem kind of intense, definitely a 'I want to see more of' game.

Thatguy-3102681d ago (Edited 2681d ago )

Couldn't careless about the disagrees. The fact that it was the least hype thing from Sony's conference last yr says otherwise. Horizon, spiderman, God of War, death stranding easily trumped it.

Bathyj2681d ago

The fact days gone was the least hyped just shows how strong their line up is. Plus it's a new IP.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2681d ago

I'm looking forward to it and I hope it gets a release date for NOVEMBER OR JANUARY 2018!

Veneno2681d ago

That Guy

You are correct. I'm hyped up for the game and this news excites me and makes Days Gone my most anticipated game this year at E3 but it must be realized that when it was shown last year it's reception was not too strong because they ended the conference with it after having a knockout showing. It deflated the massive hype of an already amazing conference, but just be a little.

It's Wonderful to hear that Days Gone is shooting for "Show Stopper" status this year. I simply can't wait to see what they will show!

XanderZane2681d ago

The game looked incredible and is one of my must have games. Happy they will be showing more gameplay at the E3. This and No Ni Kuni 2 are day one purchases for me from what I've seen so far. They also should be showing Bloodborne 2, Just imagining that game in 4K with HDR support. Very exciting time.

Blu3_Berry2681d ago

I actually agree with you. I definitely love the idea of Days Gone and the mechanics. It definitely felt polished to me, but the AI felt a bit predictable, and my god the shooting sound from the gun wasn't good or satisfying at all. Sounded like firecrackers or popcorn going off. It was just a small tease so I'm excited we will see alot more for the story and gameplay. I truly think this can be a fantastic new IP as I trust Sony.

Twignberries2681d ago (Edited 2681d ago )

The only thing that needs polish is your eyes buddy

Edit: I'd love to know the parts about it you felt were unpolished

JMaine5182682d ago

Time for them to show us everything they talked about in interviews.

DigitalRaptor2681d ago (Edited 2681d ago )

Yep, this is the moment for its to shine.

I think most can agree the E3 2016 demo presented a game that was rough around the edges, but I think an extra year will have done them wonders and I think it will be Sony's next big IP for Spring 2018. There's a lot of promise in what those guys in Bend have been working on.

In case anyone is interested, here is a potentially new leaked screenshot from the game: https://twitter.com/PlaysiL...

Could be fake, but I think it looks awesome visually and artistically and a step up from what we saw at E3 last year. A sneak peak of some of the lush Pacific Northwest environments we're going to see. You see there's a house on the hill. I think this game will scratch that post-apocalyptic exploration and scavenging itch I have, and wanted to see more of in The Last of Us.

DigitalRaptor2681d ago (Edited 2681d ago )

FYI, that screenshot I posted is actually quite old: https://www.xataka.com/vide...

rainslacker2680d ago

I'd like to see something that isn't just hordes of zombies rushing you. While that was also cool, if that was the whole game, I feel the effect and intensity would wear off. Something more along the lines of sneaking around, deeper game play in general, and new mechanics would be awesome to see.

Not a zombie game fan, so it takes a lot to get me interested, either story or game play, so something that shows how deep the game goes in those areas would be a welcome addition.

Keep in mind this is the same guy who said this comment

"Esram...the new cell processor."

And "The argument that Sony supported PS3 longer than MS is flawed because the xbox 360 was out a whole year before the PS3! "

Look at this mentality lmao

I've steered away from zombie games for a long time, but this piqued my interest when I saw it

CP_Company2681d ago

maybe it is because it is not zombie game? nice to hear that in E3 they going to show much more, even maybe release date...

DigitalRaptor2681d ago (Edited 2681d ago )

I'm feeling more of a survival game than a "zombie" one with Days Gone.

I remember people had in their heads the same thing about The Last of Us because a lot of the pre-release material showed the infected and Cordyceps, but in reality that was just a backdrop and explanation to what was actually much a human story than one about the infected, and the encounters were balanced enough that you couldn't make the claim.

The first showing of Days Gone was heavily focused on the freaker horde, but all of the info gathered from interviews indicate it to be a survival game as focused on the human story than "zombies" down your throat.

_-EDMIX-_2681d ago

Even though they are not "zombies" in the traditional sense, I can see how someone can get "zombie" from them.

Even so, its just irrelevant. Not all zombie games are alike. Zombie games are even MORE diverse then zombie films.

Someone can hate Night Of The Living Dead and LOVE 28 days later or Walking Dead.

They are just all different from each other. Some Zombie games are MP focused ala L4D, some are more closed and survival focused Resident Evil, some are open world and mixture of RPG and Action, Dying Light, Dead Island etc.

So this idea that anyone thinks calling it "zombie" thus they know all there is to know is silly and just stupid.

subtenko2680d ago

look yall, stop saying its not a zombie game. Yall know good well what people mean when they say "zombie" we get it......we know....not technically zombies...we know

_-EDMIX-_2681d ago

Don't decide what you play based on enemy type

You not liking Left 4 Dead for example doesn't suddenly mean skip The Last Of Us.

The community in regards to gaming just can't be this superficial. Bad games are bad games, they have very little to do with enemy type or setting etc. That'd be like me saying I hated Gun so I should steer away from that Red Dead Redemption game.

i'm not playing it because it has "zombies", I'm playing it because it looks good. I know deep down you don't just simply mean that all zombie games are alike, but that is how its sounding like.

A Days Gone Remaster Would Be a Bittersweet PS5 Release

Recent rumors about a potential Days Gone remaster for the PS5 is exciting news, but if true, this release would also sting a bit.

gamerant.com
Psychonaut851d 16h ago

Would be the same problem there. Why? It already looks fine and is already boosted to 60FPS on PS5.

MrNinosan1d 16h ago

It runs 60FPS but doesn't have all the other benefits from PS5.
I'm looking forward to higher fidelity, DualSense integrations, next to no loading times etc.

Days Gone was one of my favorite games 2016, and I'm happy for a Remster.

Tacoboto1d 5h ago

The shill in this is incredible.

It came out in 2019. Bend hasn't even announced their next game yet!

helicoptergirl1d 5h ago

I can't wait for this remaster. The game needs and deserves it.

KyRo1d 4h ago

This game does not need it at all. You're are part of the problem. The game already looks really good and plays at 60fps. Adding controller features than many turn off and shorter loads times which weren't a problem in the original game doesn't warrant a remaster.

This is as pointless as the HZD remaster. PS5 allows us to play PS4 games. If they were remasting games from the PS1/PS2/PS3 era then that's justified but these are just cash grabs. Nothing more.

outsider16241d 3h ago

@Kyro
Well think of it this way. If they see fit to remaster this game and it sells well then we might get the sequel we were asking for. Infact for those that bought it im sure Sony will have 10$upgrade.

Hzd on the other hand..you're right.

SmielmaN18h ago

I’m with you HelicopterGirl. Day one for me. My boys and I love this game. I’ll support a remaster in hopes it sparks a sequel!

outsider16241d 3h ago

You're right but I'm going to support it just so we can get a sequel.

JackBNimble20h ago

They need to stop with remasters and start making actual games for this current generation.

Where are all the games?

Demetrius1d 15h ago

Sony will continue to be big headed and ignore infamous series remasters requests also days gone too. I think DG looks so good even on ps4 but playing it in 60 fps is a welcomed bonus that make sme enjoy my 2nd playthrough even more

MrNinosan1d 9h ago

Sony ain't making the rumored Remaster of Days Gone.
It would probably be the new hires of Bend Studio as a part of their onboarding, just like Naughty Dog did ith their new employees for Uncharted and Last of Us.

SmielmaN18h ago

I would love Infamous and Days Gone remasters and more sequels!

GhostScholar1d 15h ago

I loved days gone so much. One of my favorite open worlds ever in a game. It captured the oxidized northwest so well. To this day still my favorite Sony exclusive.

SmielmaN18h ago

It was a great open world game that had loads of fun ready for you, if you like killing crazy zombies and motorcycling.

isarai1d 14h ago

The only way I can see this is worth it is if they port it to unreal engine 5 and use all the new fancy features seeing as how the original uses unreal engine.

Also people really need to get it straight. It's not that a sequel got canceled. It's that a guy's pitch for a sequel got canceled and he was bitter about it. Another pitch could have been greenlit we don't know

andy851d 14h ago

Let's face it, it was already a fantastic looking game for its time and it still holds up today. I've modded it on PC and I can see how much better it can look though. Just because it runs 4K/60 on PS5 isn't always a great metric. It'd look better with RT and better textures. Naturally proper Dualsense additions would be great as well.

Days Gone Director Says Bend's Project Costs Over $250M; Says PS Co-CEO Doesn't Want 2 Zombies Games

Days Gone director claims Sony has already poured in at least a $250M in Bend's project; says Days Gone sold more than Death Stranding.

shinoff2183115d ago

Well that sucks. Seems they want more online trash. I'd rather of had the sequel if it was single player

MrNinosan115d ago

What online trash games did PS Studios release last 10 years?

Notellin114d ago

The past has nothing to do with the future. This is such a terrible argument. Everyone knows about their current live service push.

_SilverHawk_114d ago

It's so tragic what happened to days gone. It is such an amazing game but bandwagoners trashed it and it underperformed in it's launch year. Days gone is the best open world zombie game released in the past five years. I was recently playing it on pc and I'm still amazed by it.

Games are very expensive to make and it seems like it's normal for a AAA game to cost over a quarter billion to make so if a quality game like days gone greatly underperforms then people shouldn't be upset when they see a lot of GAAS. I still remember a lot of bandwagoners calling days gone trash but years later it's now amazing when it's considered a failure by sony.

If a game isn't the best thing seen since hats with pockets then a lot of gamers who haven't played it automatically calls it rubbish and whoever made it should be incarcerated

Cacabunga114d ago (Edited 114d ago )

Co CEO prefers gamers to boycott.. so be it. I’ll never buy a gaas.
Just imagine buying a game you cannot replay in some years.. this shit must stop.

Days Gone did zombies in a very original way. The story was also so engaging. You actually only meet Zombie hordes later in the game. There are many more enemy groups to deal with.

MrNinosan114d ago

@Notelin
I am one of the few who bought Days Gone on release day and loved it completely.
However, "more online trash" is phrased like Sony has put out alot of trash online games.
We got what, 2 games? Helldivers 2 and GT7, 2 of the most sold Playstation games where both is loved by millions.

You, me and especially shinoff has no idea if Fairgames, Marathon and Concord will be trash.

Just because we (as in you and me) don't love or support online games, doesn't mean millions of other do.

And we don't know what Bend Studio is working with? We don't know if they're forced to make a online game or another amazing single player experience.

The only thing we do know is that it's not Days Gone, sadly due to poor sales the first 6 months.

shinoff2183114d ago (Edited 114d ago )

More online trash wasmt meant how insee it comes across. I should've worded it different I was meaning the focus they currently have on it.

Anything online is online trash to me. How long did naughty dog spend on that dumba last of us multiplayer, how about Concord, or even the other couple we hear about. I fk with Sony because rpgs and their 1st party single player games. Been like that for years. I hate seeing them waste time, money, and talent on trash. I understand bot every game is gonna be for me but this focus they've seem to had on multiplayer is extremely disheartening. Even at the state of play the only things I was really feeling were Astrobot and silent hill 2 and I'm content with that, not everything is for me. It's just the online focus I hate. Ms bought up 3 to 4 wrpgs developers, Sony just ignores rpgs 1st party wise.

And a days gone 2 would've been much better then whatever online sht bend is working on. I do know sometimes I get very idk emotional. I do need to work on toning that down a bit lol

SimpleDad114d ago

Ammm let's see... That All-stars, Foamstars, Babilon 5 wass gaas...
Concord... can wait to play that...Marathon uuuu... Last of them gaas... U
Horizon Zero dawn has a project that leaked as a Fortnite lookalike.

They bought Destiny that is a dead gaas...people love ti.

Helldivers 2 was luck.

Jimbo was all in and pushed Sony single player games 5 years behind.

Spiderman gaas was cancelled... I mean every 1st party studio was doing gaas.

Bend had to pitch a gaas game... Open world coop something

I can't remember more... Of that crap.

tay8701114d ago

@simpledad. Destiny 2 isn't a dead game. Its the number 5 most played game on steam. I dont play it, but alot of people do.

MrNinosan114d ago

Nothing like a day off of work to fire up concord to read about the new characters sexual identity and or preference then a paywall do you want o buy this character shit like no i just want to shoot my gun have fun.

-Foxtrot115d ago

It would be a shame if it was true that Hermen never gave the franchise a chance simply because he didn't like it and they already had a "Zombie" game with TLOU.

NaughtyDog are most likely moving onto a new IP next so it would have been the perfect time to do it.

ThinkThink115d ago

Here's where xbox steps in and releases state of decay 3 day and date on ps5.

shinoff2183114d ago

I mean it's not out of the realm of possibility at this point.

Grilla115d ago

Days gone 2 was canceled before Herman was in charge. That happened like 4 years ago.

vfl523115d ago

4 years ago he was head of Playstation Studios. He would've probably had a hand in the cancelation.

Notellin114d ago

Man two seconds of research could have saved you from this comment. Amazing work Grilla you fit in with the uniformed N4G community who speaks before verifying anything that they say.

Redemption-64114d ago

Maybe encourage people to buy the game at full price and not when it's heavily discounted or go on plus. If this game had sold well when it was full priced a sequel would have been in the works. They made a single-player game that most people didn't support until they dropped the price.

Cacabunga114d ago

The guy’s just a moron.. he should have stayed within game development. His choices will have a terrible impact on the brand in the long run.

Always talking about days gone sequel that never was, even though he is no longer at bend and hasnt been for a while. I for one am not upset about the lack of a sequel. Yep. Kind of weird since it wasn't a sales flop, no?

I know we have to take what Ross says with a grain of salt since we're hearing just one side of the story, but even so, the game wasn't bad at all. Heck, it's my brother's favorite last-gen game from what I recall.

The amount of zombies on screen, imagine that with the PS5 and SSD? That would be insanely fun!

Grilla115d ago

Most copies were sold on sale. Not enough ppl bought it at full price. I paid 20$ for it 6 -7 months after release.

Notellin114d ago (Edited 114d ago )

Yeah we should never believe the creators side until we hear the corporate/big business side as history has shown we should always believe billion dollar corporations.

What a bootlicker statement.

derek114d ago

@Notellin, of course you'll believe an embittered ex-employee with an axe to grind because it's evil Sony he's complaining about. You guys act like days gone was this huge success and somehow Sony hates easy money a sequel would have generated. The game was mid and so was the response to it. They're still supporting the developer who is making a new ip that could be great.

The Motorcycle was actually fun and the idea and effects of the Hordes was actually great. Sadly, the zombies in the horde have no health bar so they drop like flies, even if you hit them like once or twice on the knee. Also, no Head Shot Only Mode in another Zombie game.

In the end, it was a very generic game, with terrible mission design and cookie cutter everything. And with terrible writing and terrible written characters, the whole thing was just an Asylum level bad. This was just Sons of Anarchy at home with Zombies but somehow worst.

But again, the motorcycle was fun though...

Tacoboto121d ago

Best motorcycle gameplay of last gen!

The writing though really was the worst. Deacon was one-note and overly bitter, everyone else was a trope. You could cut off the first 30-40 hours of the game and then it would actually be a great game.

GhostScholar121d ago

I couldn’t disagree more about the writing. I thought deacon, his wife, and his friend were all great. It’s one of my favorite open worlds ever to explore too. I had no interest in the game at launch but my friend loved it and kept urging me to play it and once I started I couldn’t put it down. One of my favorite platinums.

shinoff2183121d ago

GhostScholar121d ago

They bounced off of it because all anyone cares about is the last of us. It’s better in every way to the last of us for me personally. I enjoyed the first last of us game, but the second one was atrocious
