Reuters: Nintendo to launch camera, music-capable DS: report (Confirmed)

Reuters writes: "Japanese video game maker Nintendo Co Ltd plans to launch a new model of its DS handheld machine that can take pictures and play music by the end of the year, the Nikkei business daily said on Sunday.

The move would pit the top-selling portable game gear with Apple Inc iPod and camera-embedded cellphones in general.

The price for the new machine, which will also be equipped with advanced wireless communications functions, is expected to be below 20,000 yen ($189) in Japan, compared with 16,800 yen for the current model, the Nikkei said."

The story is too old to be commented.

the 27,000 People who bought one last week in NA alone sure as Hell aren't buying them for all the rad games that are out on it,( their are a few,.. very few ) as dev support in the way of real AA titles that use the hardware to it's fullest potential is incredibly sparse, everyone I know bought it for it's media capabilities first then also emulation and homebrew, and lastly and more recently remote play, but the ability to take your PSN videos anywhere you go and also using it as a music player removes the necessity to carry another device, which is a big selling point to me and alot of people, frankly theirs no point NOT to have these features if your hardware enables it.
