Assassin's Creed: Origins will be a fresh start for the franchise, and the start of something gamers will fall in love with all over again.

If it was it would be a reboot so we can start fresh for real

FullmetalRoyale2532d ago

Yeah, I got sick of seeing that modern British guy, and that girl a few games ago. I just don't find the story compelling. I would definitely be for a fresh start, or at least a different story arch.

andrewsquall2532d ago

I think just having a fresh NEXT GEN engine built from the ground up a second time after the first marketing parity engine disaster would be good enough. :)

crazychris41242533d ago

Hopefully they dont screw it up. Havent played an AC game since Black Flag

Nitrowolf22532d ago

I think part of the reason why black flags was so good was because it wasn't really an assassin game, but more of a pirate game.

It's in my favorites everything else after that fell short with me but at the same time those one stayed more true to the idea that you're an assassin

ziggurcat2532d ago

Syndicate is actually good.

jmetalhead778122532d ago

I agree. Enjoyed that game very much

AnubisG2532d ago

Just my opinion but I think it was bad. Maybe has to do with the fact that Victorian London is a setting that I find highly repulsive.

ziggurcat2532d ago

@anubis: what's repulsive about that setting?

MatrixxGT2532d ago

I've heard it's pretty good but haven't tried it. I stopped at black flag. I think by time syndicate came out gamers still felt burned out on the series especially after horror stories of Unity.

andrewsquall2532d ago

Syndicate is great but was still built on the awful foundations and engine of Unity which is what still holds it back. It really did have amazing likeable characters throughout though. I hated EVERYBODY in Unity including the main character who somehow completely forgot his father was killed only a few years earlier.

starchild2532d ago

@andrewsquall

What are you talking about? Syndicate looks amazing, is stable and solid, very few glitches, etc. Nothing wrong with it. At least not the PC version I played through. I also rented it for my PS4 too and it seemed pretty solid. No real issues to speak of, although I only played through a smaller part of it.

I liked the characters and story, the gameplay improvements, the customization and the setting. Overall I had quite a lot of fun with it.

ziggurcat2532d ago

@squall: Actually Syndicate had far fewer issues than Unity had - I think mostly because they cut MP completely out of the picture, and kept it entirely single player.

Easiest ways Ubisoft could screw up Assassin's Creed even more:

1) Have every AC protagonist from past games together in one game like a lame Assassin Squad
2) Turn the game into a drop in/out multiplayer game with a large map and pointless missions to gain XP
3) Include an in-game store that allows you to "rank up" your Assassin

The trifecta of crap.

pinkcrocodile752532d ago (Edited 2532d ago )

@Glak18 - This was a stupid post but I thought I might as well see if I can beat it;

4) Have a Japanese Studio develop it
5) Have a Zombie mode (It made Call of Duty a waste of space)
6) Sell it to Activision (they poison the soul - if there is such a thing - of everything they touch)
7) Have it run at 60fps (such a bad idea)
8) Have an ftm AND mtf transgender couple at the heart of the story (the silly homophobes on this site would have a heart attack - mind you that might be fun to see happen - still it's a shite idea for an AC game - we should stick to history afterall)

Now all that said, I love AC and bought them all. I will support Ubisoft and AC: Origins and with their new mantra "it'll release when it's ready and not before" I think it's fantastic. Anyone who bitched about quality of Unity should have nothing to say about this.

DarXyde2532d ago

"Anyone who bitched about quality of Unity should have nothing to say about this."

The operative term being "should". There are plenty of companies who've done a lot of wrong by consumers and Ubisoft is no angel. I've retired from Assassin's Creed a while ago (after Revelations, which I really didn't care for; II and Brotherhood are my favorites), but I can understand people still willing to give these games a chance and having high expectations.

They say they won't release it before it's ready, but I find that to be a very difficult promise to keep if you're Ubisoft, Activision, or even Capcom. It's generally the smaller developers with tempered expectations that can deliver on that.

I suppose we'll see.

andibandit2532d ago (Edited 2532d ago )

hmm a japanese studio, I just cant imagine AC with a child protagonist.

pinkcrocodile752531d ago

@andibandit

I know, I don't know what is it with the dangerous line the Japanese take on (in my view) way to young characters in adult plot points. In any other country a lot of the imagery would be banned or at the very least have a parental warning slapped on it.

Assassins Creed is European through and through and you are bob on with a much older protagonist

pwnsause_returns2532d ago

making a game out of it....every year....

dilbig52532d ago (Edited 2532d ago )

When there was no other game like it though. And still isn't.

jrshankill2532d ago

The IP has been beaten to death. Why people still care about Ubisoft is beyond me.

pinkcrocodile752531d ago

OK, I'll tell you since you can't bothered to read.

I love the story, the exploration of period set pieces and while it has had issues with mechanics etc, that has never been an deal breaker for me. Yes the issues were irritating but I'm not a short fused teenage idiot, so I put it on the back burner until they updated it.

Its the experience which I love.

As for Ubisoft, they have AC:O, FC5, SP:TFBH this financial year and I loved all their predecessors.

Now Bungie? They can kiss my arse

BlakHavoc2532d ago

Let's see how much they've changed, I'm only gonna be interested if they got rid of the eavesdropping and trailing missions. Haven't played an AC game since BF but I must admit that it has peaked my interest.

J-DARKnes2532d ago

Thr only way I'll buy this is if they get rid of the stupid eavesdropping missions and no MP.

10 Video Game Sequels That Saved Their Franchise

Video game sequels like Assassin's Creed Origins, Doom (2016), and Fire Emblem Awakening were just what these franchises needed to be revitalized.

Immagaiden357d ago

Lmao what’s Halo Infinite doing on this list?

Who would ever say Halo Infinite saved the Halo franchise

SullysCigar356d ago

Thought the same - very bizarre!

RE7 though... my God, what a shift over RE6! That franchise was definitely going in the wrong direction, so RE7 was a welcome return to form.

ModsDoBetter357d ago

Resi 6 was and still is the worst entry in the series.
7 was a great turnaround, despite people’s concerned about the switch to FP perspective.

DMC5 definitely helped the franchise after the whole DmC debacle. Whilst it was a decent action game, it was a far cry from the series and the characters we knew.

AC Origins is my favourite in the entire AC series. Despite the switch to a more RPG style of gameplay - the setting, soundtrack, length, etc were all amazing. sadly followed up by the ridiculously long and “more of the same” Odsyssey.

I don’t feel it’s fair to say the franchise slipped with Doom 3, Doom 3 was incredibly atmospheric and took the game in a different direction but there’s no denying Doom (2016) was sensational.

Halo 4 & 5 were disappointing but Halo Infinite definitely didn’t save the franchise? What?

TheEnigma313356d ago (Edited 356d ago )

I'm going to have to go with SMB 3. I was around when SMB 2 first came out and people hated it. 3 is still arguably the best mario game created.

HellspawnPR1981356d ago

"Halo Infinite"? Worse Halo ever. Whoever made this list just lost all credibility.

Hofstaderman356d ago

In future lists of a similar nature I have a suspicion Final Fantasy XVI will feature.

Six Best Historically Accurate Games

GF365: "Out of the many historically accurate games out there, these are our picks for the six best games that are historically accurate. While these games aren't completely accurate, they depict the times and situations of history well. Plus, they're all a lot of fun to play, too."

Historically accurate from the past is tough to truly know and judge especially the farther you go back because history is written from the people in power and doesn’t mean it’s the truth just the narrative they wanted to tell.

I don’t care about historically accurate in most games because they are games not biographies or history books . Just make the game fun , good gameplay and such .

Ghost of Tsushima wasn’t historically accurate in many things but I loved the game . Many examples like it .
