I’ve previously compared gamers that choose a favorite video game platform, developer, or franchise to sports fans that pick a team and become psychologically invested in that team’s victories. After mulling it over a bit more, I have to say that it was a poor comparison: Gamers are far more justified in “picking a team” than sports fans are, because they receive a benefit more tangible than the sense of pride that comes from people they admire being really good at handling balls.
New list available for Nintendo Switch games that automatically run at 1080p on Switch 2 handheld mode with no updates or patches needed.
Wow....1080p, you say? Nintendo always on the forefront of cutting edge technology. Take that, Sega Genesis!
Looking to release some of that anger? Here's the 7 most violent VR games you can play on your headset today!
Lol, maybe I'm becoming an old fart, but excessive violence in VR seems to bother me more than in flat games. Feels more visceral when you're looking a person in the eyes before mutilating them.
By no means am I trying to be a prude and saying these games shouldn't exist. I just play them more sparingly, need more breaks. I need some beautiful, refreshing & relaxing VR experiences too to balance them out so I don't feel so heavy.
A new promotion has been announced which should excite fans.
There rally is no justification thinking Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo are your sports team. Makes very little sense because if you think that way then you are bound to be forgiving when they make mistakes. Tell me, what does being loyal to a brand really payoff to anyone? Besides, when do sports teams have the same players?
The only downside to this team based mentality is the juvenile behaviour people have when they attack other "teams." Something I also can't stand in gaming is the passive aggressive attitude teams have to one another at least in sports they are openly aggressive (sure they are assholes but at least they are upfront about it).
loyalty to one means missed opportunities and experiences found somewhere else.
I found this quite an interesting read personally. For my part, I definately perceive myself as a Playstation fan above any of the other manufacturers and before Playstation I was a devout Commodore fan.
I also don't see brand loyalty as a negative concept, my love of Playstation isn't arbitrary, it was earned by Sony over 20+ years. I bought my PS1 after playing Destruction Derby in a games store in my early 20's and after that, I experienced one incredible title after another.
I have 20 or more years of memories, I remember going back to my mates after a night out for Wipeout and Tekken battles, I remember playing Parappa with my daughter when she was a toddler. I can remember the buzz around MGS and Resident Evil with my circle of friends, I think about sitting on my bedroom floor in my old house playing SSX tricky and playing Uncharted and MGS4 in my current house.
Through all this, it was Sony who produced the console and many of the games I loved, they are intrinsically linked to my personal history and memories so why shouldn't I feel affection for that company?
