Don't say 'Ninty'! N4G is not a British Nintendo magazine from the early 90s! ;)

nix2527d ago

hahaha...

OT, this selling is no surprise. i expect it to be like this even with scorpio when it launches.

Veneno2527d ago

I despise the name Ninty as well.

Babadook72527d ago

This was a big drop from launch numbers. Guess the stock has run pretty short.

Why o why2527d ago

Well done Nintendo. . . Well done Mario kart. .

Sono4212527d ago

Everyone saying yay good for Nintendo is a fool. It's honestly like you don't want Nintendo to get better. You are all re-buying 4 year old games at full price, buying the inferior version of the newest Zelda just because it's on their newest console (also portability obviously but doesn't change the fact that it's the inferior version), there is still almost no 3rd party support anywhere to be seen, and yet in 2017 Nintendo can't even handle something as simple as voice chat on their newest console.. but yet here you all are saying "Hay gewd job Ninty! kep up da gewd werk!" Like seriously what good work? They fooled a bunch of people into buying into their antics again and you celebrate.. why are you all so blind?

DarXyde2527d ago

Sono421,

1. You assume this is NOT what people might want from Nintendo. Or maybe-- and this is just a hunch-- just maybe people who didn't want a Wii U but wanted Mario Kart 8 now have a means of owning it on a console they do want.

2. Have you played Breath of the Wild on Switch with the patch? You're writing nonsense at this point. Performance is solid.

3. Their online service still needs a lot of work. On this, we agree. Considering they never tried very hard before, I completely expect them to suck, at least for a while. On the other hand, the service will also cost less than half of their competitors' asking price.

Now is the bar set a little lower for Nintendo? In some ways, yes. Even if the online service is just better than their previous services, they will likely be adored for it. But they're still in business and making platforms. Clearly, they're doing enough right to still have investors and still have some sales momentum. Honestly, I don't even understand some aspects of their success, but I don't have to and neither do you. People are welcome to buy whatever they want and support whatever company moving in whatever direction they please. I encourage you to get off your high and holy horse for a moment and realize that your interests and aspirations for the company are not synonymous with those of others.

indysurfn2527d ago (Edited 2527d ago )

Last month they said it was too early wait until next month! Under WHAT conditions can they get themselves to admit the SWITCH is legit!

indysurfn2526d ago (Edited 2526d ago )

All these Nintendo hating success control trolls. can't argue numbers so they are complaining about remakes? Seriously extremely Hippocratic! Every system lately has had remakes. Even the mighty PS4

Remakes!
Last of Us Remastered
DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD Remastered
Grand Theft Auto V Remastered
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition
Dead or Alive 5: Last Round
God of War 3 Remastered
Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey New and Tasty
Metro Redux
Injustice: God's Among Us - Definitive Edition
Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate
Borderlands 2: Handsome Collection
Toukiden: Kiwami
Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition
Dark Souls II: Sins of the First Scholar
Final Fantasy X/X2 HD Remastered
Devil May Cry 4 Remastered

Stop with the nay saying, the put downs, the belittling. The extreme control force patrolling.
They are doing this boldly one month they say it is too early. The next month they say it has been out for over a month (oh do tell) where are the ton of originals. All the while ignoring we did this with xbox one and PS4 for several months!

ABizzel12525d ago (Edited 2525d ago )

We can actually theorize all the console sales based on the article Switch and 3DS amounted for almost 50% of the total hardware sales.

3DS has been averaging around 100k, but April is usually a slow month so a safer bet is 90k. So 370k is about 50%, then that means total hardware is around 750k.

So that leaves 380k to be split between PS4, XBO, Wii U, and Vita.... Wii U and Vita haven't sold more than 10k units combined in a while. So that's 370k split between PS4 and XBO, which based on their US market share it would likely be 200k PS4, 170k XBO.

Switch: 280k
PS4: ~200k~
XBO: ~170k~
3DS: ~90k~
Vita + Wii U: 10k

BecauseImBatman2527d ago

Yes well deserved. Although I do wonder how long they can keep this momentum going forward.

Veneno2527d ago

The reception for Switch is triumphant compared to that of the Wii U. It should continue for the years to come. Nintendo just has to supply the excellent games.

BecauseImBatman2527d ago

@Veneno
I just question third party support which I think is incredibly important for any consoles success. Even if those game have to made exclusively for the Nintendo Switch hardware, it's success so far is a good sign of getting companies on board. That's my only concern.

modelgod2527d ago

It just came out, it launched w/ Zelda, and it's cheap. Relax......It'll be dead by Holiday season!

Wow... they beat the PS4 again? Now bad. Let's see if they keep this up throughout the rest of Summer. MK8 sold over 550K in 2 days. That's impressive with about 3+ million Switch on the market and maybe 1.5 million sold in N.A.

DaleCooper2527d ago

Thus is the Nintendo system I've been waiting for since GameCube. It's been fantastic playing Zelda and MK8. I even get to play during my lunch break, then I dock it at home. Good to see nintendo is back!

I'm loving the Switch! Bring on the games Nintendo, Zelda and Mario Kart are phenomenal achievements for handheld gaming in my opinion.

I'm loving this generation with my switch, PS4 pro with PSVR, and my future Scorpio!

I've had so many fantastic experiences and love the fierce competition between the three. It's making it better for everyone and I am beyond pumped for E3.

mcstorm2526d ago

I'm with you on that. Even though I'm not a big ps fan I'm loving what all 3 offer and also how all 3 do very well. Living the switch they need to get the MP sorted out now but I think it will be good when it launces and looking forward to seeing what ips come to the switch

donthate2527d ago

It's a pleasant surprise for Nintendo to be able to keep the momentum going despite shortages. Did PS4 just get another contender? Did Ninty dethrone PS4 permanently? Is the race about Xbox vs Switch now?

Kingthrash3602527d ago

What??
Lol xbox vs switch? Lol yeah for the fight for second place. Tbh if nintendo go forward with games it'll surpass xbox within 3 years.

Looks like Switch is turning some heads!

fr0sty2527d ago

It launched as a semi-portable (those always sell well for N) and with a great Zelda game, so a strong start was expected. However, time will tell if it can keep the pace up.

Segata2527d ago

Well it's first year is more stacked with games than any Nintendo console since SNES.

Sono4212527d ago

@Segata yeah "Stacked" A Wii U game delayed to be a Switch launch title (Yet switch still ended up being the inferior version) and a 4 year old Wii U game (Mario Kart 8) yeah.. oh boy that's so stacked.. /s Seriously why are people so blind when it comes to Nintendo? Can somebody please explain.

Neonridr2527d ago

@Sono421 - why is Zelda inferior on Switch? Curious. It's got better graphics when docked, the same graphics while in mobile and I can leave the house and play vs sitting at home on my Wii U. No brainer the Switch version is the winner here.

Kingthrash3602527d ago

So no
Didn't the xbox release with a game that were supposed to be on 360?
Ryse.
Sony had tlou ...so why is it not ok for the switch?
Cleary people want it seeing they beat xbox and Playstation with these games.

conanlifts2527d ago

Sono421
Look at any console launch and they are all stacked with games available on other systems. Ps4 and xbox one launched with COD and BF4 which were also available on the ps3/360. This is actually a good thing as it ensures support for those not wanting to buy a new console at launch. Imagine how disgusting it would have been if Zelda were a pure switch exclusive with wii u support removed.

indysurfn2526d ago (Edited 2526d ago )

Why are you trying to belittle SWITCH success with a lie. "it launched as a Semi-Portable .THOSE ALWAYS SELL WELL..TIME WILL TELL IF IT CAN KEEP THE PACE UP...".

THIS is the FIRST and ONLY ...;'semi-portable' so how do 'THEY' even exist. for you to say that?

And oh yeah it is fully portable.

how the table has turned. I wonder where are the those pesky Nintendo fanboys now who were always here mocking other consoles' owners for spending money buying new console just to play remasters? the moment Nintendo does the same, they gobble it up like no tomorrow! eat your full serving of crows Nintendo fanatics!

Neonridr2527d ago

? Pretty sure Sony has released their fair share of remasters. TLOU came just over a year after the PS3 version. Not to mention the PS4 and XB1 were nothing but remasters for the first year of their life.

Bronxs152527d ago

Yep, made me turn my head in the opposite direction.

CocoaBrother2527d ago

Impressive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the best selling game in April even though it was only available on the market for 2 days in the month. Congrats, Nintendo.

PaulKersey2527d ago

Not hard to do when they only have one game worth buying that month.

Prince_TFK2527d ago

And what games are worth buying on ps4 or xbox one beside persona 5 in April?

Liqu1d2527d ago

Only the launch edition and take my heart of Persona 5 was available in April in the UK, I'm assuming it was the same in the US. The standard edition came out in May.

Overload2527d ago

The Switch only sold 280k? Last month it was 900k. Thats a big 2nd month drop.

Overload2527d ago (Edited 2527d ago )

PS4 and Xbox had that many units ready to go in the first 24 hrs. Either way thats not good.

The 10th Rider2527d ago (Edited 2527d ago )

@Overload,

Both PS4 and Xbox One had staggered launches. The Xbox One did release in Europe and the Americas at the same time, but of course they shipped more to the US because Xbox sales are very US heavy. The PS4 came out in the US two weeks earlier than Europe, meaning they would have shipped a whole lot more there (probably to get it out before Black Friday). Then it came out in Europe at the end of the month, and not in Japan until three months later. With a worldwide release like the Switch had the units produced at launch are more spread out, making for less sales per region but similar sales overall.

Overload2527d ago (Edited 2527d ago )

@10th Rider

I agree, but with the US being the largest market for consoles, they should have sold more, regardless of the reason. At most WW would be 700K in April, thats not great for a 2nd month. Even if the reason is production. For example, after being the best launch, it's now tracking behind the GBA in the US by a few thousand units.

Remember the Wii U had an impressive launch too.

DialgaMarine2527d ago (Edited 2527d ago )

So you're basically defending Nintendo for intentionally not producing enough units?

Razzer2527d ago (Edited 2527d ago )

Supply has been a joke. Nintendo screwed this up royally. Sales numbers should be way higher than it is and scalpers are the only ones benefiting.

Intentional? Yeah...that is fanboy musings. Not interested in that noise. Speculate however you want. Bottom line is Nintendo messed this up. How is that for defending Nintendo?

danny8182527d ago

i agree its been months now and they are still sold out. It baffles me how nintendos manufacturing partners cant meet demand

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 2527d ago
freshslicepizza2527d ago

Either that or Nintendo continues to show their incompetance on how to ship.

Overload2527d ago

This is definitely part of the problem.

Neonridr2527d ago

yeah.. you know using planes to make up for slower shipments shows real incompetence. Nintendo can't get these in stores soon enough before they are gobbled up.

freshslicepizza2527d ago

@Neonridr
"yeah.. you know using planes to make up for slower shipments shows real incompetence. Nintendo can't get these in stores soon enough before they are gobbled up."

Then explain to me why preorders exist and their purpose? While you're at it why have the numbers severely dropped in North America if demand as you say is being gobbled up so quickly?

StraightedgeSES2527d ago

That's because Nintendo doesn't supply a lot. I still can't find one in stores.

KaiPow2527d ago

That could explain why I still can't find a console in the wild!

PaulKersey2527d ago

No, that's because Nintendo isn't shipping enough as usual.

blawren42527d ago

Perhaps your store didn't order enough. I'm seeing Switches on shelves.

Razzer2527d ago

Your store has Switch on shelves? What store? what location?

DialgaMarine2527d ago

Artificial demand is real with Switch :/

I got lucky and picked one up at Best Buy right after they were done unloading their truck. They literally only got in 4. Can't imagine other retailers are that different.

blawren42527d ago

Artificial demand is an unproven myth.

Kribwalker2527d ago

Artificial demand causes them to be the top seller?

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

The 7 Best Selling Switch Games of All Time

The Nintendo Switch has been an undeniable success for Nintendo, but which games make the best selling chart for the console?

GotGame81863d ago

Animal crossing came out the week the entire world shutdown. Yeah I bought it.

kevco3363d ago

Agreed. I think a lot of the AC: H sales have to do with early lockdown players!

I mean, I would've played it anyway. But I guess there's a lot of people who got into it because of the hype and their new found free time!

DivineHand12563d ago

Nintendo made out like bandits with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's the same game that was on the WiiU except they added 2 item boxes like in double dash.

kevco3363d ago

It's the Capcom method:

1. Add a new word to the end of the title and features that should've been expected first time around.
2. Charge full price for it.
3. Profit.

gold_drake62d ago

this is why i always say that Nintendo will always be fine. look at those numbers lol
