Problems With The Overwatch Competitive Scene

The Overwatch competitive scene faces quite a few problems, even at this early point. Gloria from Reboot Reload explores some of the major ones, and why they need to be fixed.

It's one of the reasons I've been hesitant to get into Overwatch. It's been downloaded on my Xbox for several months now, just haven't gotten around to playing it.

I'd say give it a try. I hate the competitive some for the reasons listed here but people in the competitive matches are extremely toxic and negative so playing in those games just isn't fun. There are other game modes though. CTF, 3V3, quickplay, and my personal favorite the random game type where every time you die it changes your character forcing you and the team to change up play styles and you get a chance to play with all the characters. Plus playing in the Arcade selection gets you more Loot Boxes. Also, there isn't much mic usage in the other game types and if you have friends obviously you have party chat to ignore the sour apples.

I've mainly stuck to player vs AI which is pretty good for team-work and general decency

isn't this the case with every online competitive game? at least i stopped supporting/playing online based games years ago.

1. Tired of hearing general online issues being isolated to OW
2. Mute the annoying player
3. I don't use voice chat unless I'm in a party, it isn't needed if you're aware of enemy teams/ultimates and provide periodic ultimate status for your teammates. I also mute so I don't hear annoying players and that they don't hear me complain sometimes when things aren't going well. When we're winning I'm generally silent anyway.
4. If you don't know basic OW mechanics/team play avoid competitive and stick to everything else.

If you say you don't play OW because of others that's a petty issue since there's plenty of ways to not hear annoying people.

The ranking has to be altered. I've spoken to many gamers , for verification this is on the PS4. To my point and asked them how they finished up there ranking matches and many finished worst than me, more losses than wi s but were ranked higher than me. I've always wondered is your rank based on personal stats? Or is it a. It if both? This is the first time I was ranked under gold. They give you the chance to push up but man it seems like a cruel joke, you get so close to a certain rank and for some reason your next 7 matches are pure crap. Main reason being ranked low is the groups you play with, team comp is always horrible, smart decisions are rarely made, people literally stick to one character and won't change at all. For example why choose bastion if you have no one to protect you and if the other team has a tracer or pharaoh don't bother but man they still stick with it, another issue if you rush to choose Agent 76 then do you job as him....flank, heal the team not just yourself and for gods sake kill the pharaoh simple. Rant over lol

I didn't place as high in S4 as I normally do due to not caring when teammates left or where throwing the game, but was still only a few points from platinum...first time I placed under plat btw. I have fallen from 2450ish to 2100, got back to 25xx, then fell to 198x, and now I'm fluctuating between 2100-2200.

It is beyond annoying when you already know before the game starts and within 30 seconds how competitive your TEAM isn't going to be.

Lucky for one of my friends he placed the same as me but is on a lot less but we typically win together and he's been hovering around 2800-2900, it's just that for every 1 smart team you get 5 trash teams.

What I find more interesting is how Blizzard demands that mouse and keyboard be banned on consoles, apparently it isn't "fair" ( https://www.google.com/amp/... It just seems ironic that they'll come down on some for using legitimate peripheral but they can't control the hacking that dominates the top of the leaderboards.

Right? I'm sure it's very difficult and expensive to find hackers / cheaters, but direct your energy on console players using mouse and keyboard... get the people flat out cheating and destroying your competitive scene.

I don't really notice it to be honest. I stopped talking to people in competitive games after Halo 2 lol. I'm usually just in a party with my friends. People should do that and you never noticed anything bad, except for the trolls.

The matchmaking system sucks big time.. It's rare to link up with a team that actually knows what they doing.. No team communication no team support no teamwork.. The whole infrastructure needs to be revamp. Mic only lobby is a start... And don't get me started with the glitches..
