Was their a backlash about Fury being a woman? I don't recall seeing them and the first 2 games already established Fury was a woman so if we were to play all 4 horsemen we would have played as her

cleft52916d ago

Exactly, Fury was always suppose to be a woman. So anyone complaining simply has no clue what they are talking about. I get there is a concern with women simply being implemented in games to sale games as part of a marketing strategy. But this is not that case, it just so happens that Fury is a woman. This was always the plan and there is nothing wrong with that.

Raiden2915d ago

Fury has always been female, what's the problem.

LordMaim2916d ago

Yeah, they're about 7 years too goddamn late for this faux outrage.

_-EDMIX-_2916d ago

Probably.

I mean you not seeing it personally doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Of course you're going to have some sort of backlash to some degree.

I mean we have a group in this community that is angry when it's a girl and it's always some sort of conspiracy theory and hidden agenda.

We also have a group in this community that is angry when it's a male and it's always some sort of conspiracy theory and hidden agenda.

Just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean it doesn't happen...

I don't think I've ever seen any decision for a main character in any game get 100% support.

EmperorDalek2916d ago

Hardly anyone made a fuss (No real backlash) over this case, and the few that did were all shut-down after people explained why they're wrong. The writer of this article must be extremely nitpicky about what comments he writes his articles about, because this article has no grounds to exist.

_-EDMIX-_2915d ago

@emper-I don't disagree with you based on my own perspective I actually didn't read anything regarding a backlash in terms of the main character being a female but I also didn't read much about this game on forums in the first place.

My point is simply that nobody for an absolute fact I'd say that 100% any game for that matter has a main character that no one did it make negative comments about.

So I'm not entirely too sure I could say that there was "no real backlash" simply because anyone could have a problem with anything...

You might want to take a look at some of those articles were Battlefront 2 single player was announced Lol

People like that really do exist, on both sides of the spectrum as I find it almost humorous that there's some people on this site that literally can't take it that they are essentially male versions of social justice Warriors.

They exist for all demographics.

For me to say no for a 100% fact it never happened , even once is just extremely mathematically unlikely.

Fist4achin2916d ago

No i think the real horseman famine, came and stole all of their food. As they rode away, conquest came and slapped everyone on the backs of their heads...

joab7772916d ago (Edited 2916d ago )

There isn't. But it's nice to fabricate it where there is none, because god forbid, most of us aren't actually racist or sexist, and appreciate when it is done for the purpose of content and not political motivation.

morganfell2916d ago (Edited 2916d ago )

This. And it is a good example of any press in any field. Leeches all. Why report the news when you can create the news then report that. And you get to claim you were the first in with the story.

Two people with the cold does not equal a global pandemic but leave it to the press to inform us we are doomed.

A handful of people that may or may not have said something does not constitute backlash. Such reporting is downright irresponsible and just as evil as the failure to report something real.

NecoTehSergal2916d ago

I think the backlash may as well be orchestrated by Non-Gamers to promote a divide between us. I have never seen a legitimate 'oppression' of female heroines in games, up only until SJW's and Liberal cucks begun fucking shit around and shoving politics into this industry and promoting their cancer in it. I did not see ANY COMPLAINTS of Horizon: Zero Dawn having a female protagonist, nor back in PS3's days with games like Heavenly Sword, the lore of the Four Horsemen and one of them being Fury, a woman, was in stone since the beginning and to have random people crying and being sexist or and 'backlash' just seems forced and fake.

Sure, there'll no doubt be a couple of ignorant whiners out there - but they'd be 1/1000000 in how small the 'complaints' are. All this makes me think is that it's the same as the whole fake news of people spraying Swatstikas all around America or Racial slurs being spraypainted on walls that insinuate racism towards blacks and minorities by 'Trump voters' but nearly every single case of those hate crimes? Were done by Liberals, or Black people writing those down pretending to be something they aren't, similar to rises in 'Rape reports' where many were just women pretending something happened, that never did - falsely reporting that they had been raped to try to legitimize their political agenda and normalizing divide and hatred from thin air.

Gender Politics and Identity Politics are ruining and creating cancer in every single industry and market and gullible mindset that exists - and I think this is just another example of it - not a real example of anything, nor is it a real backlash, just 'divide and hate by ignorant hate-mongerers and political agendas' and that's it. Vast majority of male gamers in the West do not care about race and gender - they just want to play a good game - I can say this with absolute confidence. Although I won't say the same about China, Korea and Japan - cause I know there's quite a lot of stigma still for Pro female gamers who ARE infact good at games? Who just get a ton of shit for simply being girls, moreso there than any shit-posting that gamers do to women here in the West, which is just shit-posting that happens to anyone no matter the gender, age or ethnicity.

Wouldn't know, I was born in the 80's, I'm not a millennial like you, Edgelord/WeebLord.

UnHoly_One2915d ago

I played the first two games but it has been awhile. I have no recollection of them ever saying Fury was female.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I don't remember it, so I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that don't pay as close attention as I do to story details that don't recall that either.

I keep seeing people mention comics, as well. I didn't even know those existed and would never have read them if I did.

I don't have a problem with her being female I'm just trying to offer some context for why people are treating this like it's new, because to them it is.

We knew that one of them was a female.Hell she was even in the comics

rezzah2916d ago

Yep, I was gona mention the comic as I own it.

bluefox7552916d ago

There was backlash? Really? Frankly, I think articles like this are full of !@#$. They dig til they find someone making making a complaint (serious or otherwise, it doesn't matter), then they run with it. These are just dishonest attempts to cash in on a non-existent identity politics "controversy". It's interesting how you tend to see way more articles and comments about "people complaining" than you see actual complaints.

SpamnJam2916d ago

I saw a fair bit of negativity about it to be honest. IGN's board especially were full of people hating on the idea. Saying things like Strife should be before a woman, and a woman has no right to be a horseman.

Also The author uses this instance to make a point about the industry as a whole, pretty fair and accurate article in my opinion. Plenty of room in this hobby for everyone.

Footyspacecadet2916d ago

I can tell you this sort of thing isn't hard to find. There are plenty of people out there who want gaming to stay a white-male dominated space. Frankly the more articles, op's and features like this the more chance things will change. Representation is important and it is very easy to see that unless you are a white male, you get almost no representation in gaming.

EmperorDalek2916d ago (Edited 2916d ago )

Representation is not important in games. And I certainly don't want it to be, we don't need more stuff like the new Star Wars, where they so blatantly shove in a female lead for the sake of it.

Don't get me wrong, if every game I played for the next few years only starred female characters, I'd be completely fine with that - Characters like Clementine, Lara Croft (specifically the reboot/ROTR one), and Ellie are great characters. Fury in particular looks badass.

My issue is when it feels forced. Nadine in Uncharted 4 was the epitome of forced representation - A character that we're supposed to believe could beat any character in the series in one on one combat, and possibly more than one at a time. She was also rather unnecessary to the story. Too forced in for my liking.

CaptainObvious8782916d ago

It's mostly made up to further the narrative of the entitle, misogynistic male.

It's pathetic and sexist.

Most of us have no problem with female leads. It's when it's obviously shoehorned in purely for the sake of 'diversity' that we have a big problem. But then we're just painted as angry white men.

JokerBoy4222916d ago

Fake news! There is no backlash! Fury has been announced as a woman since the first Darksiders game!

ShadowWolf7122916d ago

There was, actually. It was small but it was there. Folks had to rush to toss their fedoras on and tweet about the clear SJW feminist agenda on display, etc.

Had a friend show me several of said tweets. Was rather embarrassing.

lunatic00012916d ago

its been known for many years that fury was a woman...these idiots don't know the lore i guess or they're just to single minded but if they don't play it...good riddance...don't need trash playing this great series

It's Been 13 Years Since The Cliffhanger, When's The Darksiders Finale Coming?

Now that all of Darksiders' horsemen have been explored, it's about time we get the epic team-up the first game left us hanging for.

jznrpg513d ago (Edited 513d ago )

Embracer went on a massive studio buying spree in hopes one deal with saudis would go through and it didn’t.
Now they are shutting down studios and looking for cash after spending most of it on acquisitions.
I wouldn’t get my hopes up for anything that Embracer owns.
They need to get out of this problem they made for themselves but it may never happen. They f’d up big time.
Darksiders has little hope at this moment

Darksiders III for Nintendo Switch Review (The Gamers Lounge)

Darksiders III on Nintendo Switch is a mostly well-done port that is likely to take a lot of people by surprise given its huge graphical upgrade over its previous generation predecessors. While the game itself is far from perfect, it should be commended that even with a few downgrades here and there, the overall integrity of the game remains intact and officially completes the entire Darksiders series being available on Nintendo Switch, which lends itself nicely to handheld play despite a AAA production that's as epic and grandiose as the series has ever been.

Darksiders III Nintendo Switch OLED Review - The Wrath of Fury I The Koalition

Adam Vale of The Koalition writes: When thinking about some of my favorite hack & slash adventure games of last-gen, Darksiders and Darksiders II pop up in my head. The story was unique, and the combat was satisfying with creative level design. For whatever reason, I never picked up Darksiders III. So here we are in 2021 and Darksiders III has been ported to my preferred portable gaming device. This is why I held off on reviewing this game until my Nintendo Switch OLED arrived. At least 90% of my gaming on the Switch is in handheld mode and I wanted to experience this horrid creature-infested world on the new vibrant OLED screen.

Despite the issues with the game itself, Darksiders III still looks great on the Nintendo switch OLED model.
