These comments basically assured a decision I've been struggling with for a while now, that is, to switch platforms moving forward. Now that PS4s are selling for $250, I think its time to make the jump after some 10 years with the Xbox.
It's rather cheap 4k gaming though. The Scorpios GPU is equivalent to a Radeon RX480 which already struggles with GTA5 or Witcher 3 @4k/30fps. You might be surprised, but even with the almighty Scorpio you only get what you pay for - which is 4k gaming at medium settings with the added bonus of "subscription based multiplayer games" that the president of Xbox can't get enough of ;)
"The Scorpios GPU is equivalent to a Radeon RX480"
^^Where did you get that info from? The RX480 is slower than a GTX 1060, The GPU inside of the Scorpio is closer to a GTX1070 according to digital foundry.
Remember when Xbox fans didn't care about resolution? Remember when they were honest about the fact that minor differences in resolution have very little impact on one's enjoyment of a game? Pepperidge Farm remembers...
My decision to own both PS & XBox games consoles since 1994 is one I'll never regret as well.Only game consoles I regret getting is probably the Colecovision. The controllers were crap and pretty much ruined my enjoyment of the games. The Sega 32X, which was supported for like 5 months by SEGA.
@Tacobell323 Yes, I do, as you can clearly infer from my comment, that was dishonest and fanboy nonsense. Just like it is with Xbox fans today. Just because playstation fanboys do something stupid, it doesn't justify Xbox fanboys doing the same thing, lol.
@Razzer "Using a highly optimized Forza tech demo and nothing else. It is Polaris tech. No where close to 1070. "
Incorrect. This is directly Digital Foundry's Scorpio tech reveal:
"The parts were cobbled together at Turn 10 Studios down the road into something that resembled a prototype console. The Forza engine was ported to the Scorpio in just 2 days, and, well, straight off the bat it worked, it worked right out of the gate and it blew the Turn 10 tech team away, something that generally doesn't tend to happen this quickly. Not only did it just work but it was fast, brutally fast, without the benefit of any platform specific optimization. "
^You still can't compare Nvidia TFLOP's with AMD TFLOP's. It's closer to the RX480 than the GTX1070 and I for one wouldn't be satisfied with either of them when it comes to proper 4k gaming. If a game like GTA 5 struggles already, imagine how games in 2-3 years will run on the Scorpio. Not saying the PS4 Pro will do any better, but at least it will have the better exclusives.
If you were sold on ps4 a while back then just pick one up already. no one should feel sad about adopting multiple consoles, I've had one of each console and thought nothing of it. I'm still waiting though for this E3 to see the road map ahead, for everyone and the Scorpio too.
that's true, if I had the money is own em all but I don't. I'm happy with my Xbox and the direction ms are going that's all there is to it, there no need for all the hate going about.
This maybe the most dense comment I've ever made, but if MS wasn't an AMERICAN console, I would have jumped ship as soon as the Sony onslaught of 1st quarter 2017. I have a little, yet unwavering faith in MS but if they try to save face by jamming another Gears, Halo, and Forza down my throat, then I'm done! Sea of Thieves should receive a 8.8-9.2 from Gamespot and IGN, but what's next?
I completely agree. I could never be satisfied with just one game console. That's not how I roll. I've owned every US released game console from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo except for the Virtual Boy, Switch & PS4 Pro. Still have my NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, XBox, XBox 360/Slim, XBox One, PS1, PS2, PS3/Slim and PS4. Hardcore gamers play games on multiple consoles. Brand loyality is dumb, especially if it's the games you care about.
if anything over also get a gaming PC for some of those MS titles that come around but I just don't think it makes sense to really own an Xbox One.
There's almost nothing coming out for this platform, in fact there's so little coming out exclusively for it that it definitely questions the point of even owning one.
@_-EDMIX-_: ever since PS4 got Horizon, Nioh, Nier, & Persona 5... (games that 90% of Sony fans wont even buy) how did 4 or 5 games translate to "There's almost nothing coming out for this platform (Xbox)"
there's plenty to play on Xbox. sony fans act like EVERYBODY has a pc lol
What!?!?!? What are these then? https://www.releases.com/l/... Looks like a LOT of games to me. Are those games or are those not games? I don't buy a game console just to play exclusives? Who does that?
Might as well. Loyalty gets you no where. I jumped off the Xbox bandwagon at the beginning of this gen without a second though. If Xbox ever ends up getting better games than Sony, I'll switch right back.
Agreed. Wr gamers should never hold on to blind brand loyalty. Go after the platforms are most dedicated to games. This way we can force MS (and maybe some time in future sony and nintendo) to do better and focus on games rather than other useless stuff. Voting with our wallets that is.
Not to nitpick, because I actually agree with you, but you can still trade in or sell the other system to subsidy the cost of a new system.
Would make sense if there is truly nothing one wants to play on the other system anymore....but of course, if he falls into that category I can't say, nor would anecdotal examples really serve either of our arguments.
I am keeping my X1, because it does have the BC for games I will eventually want to get around to from last gen. Plus, there are some games I want to play on it. Obviously since I have one, there is no reason for me to sell it because of this even though I wouldn't be fussed either way if it was no longer in my entertainment center.
There has never been a better time to be a gamer. Period. Pretty sure there are lots of gamers without a PS who are still having a blast playing video games. I do agree that it's nice to have a PS as well though. Lots of quality games now and in the future.
if you already have an xbox and can now afford a ps4 why not have both. then you won't miss out on games like crackdown 3, days gone, sea of thieves, spiderman, state of decay 2 and god of war
If you wait until the holidays you could probably get a slim for 200$. I highly recommend the console and it does have many great games available on it so you won't regret your decision.
10 years sheeesh, dude you missed gamings best i.e PSE's however, welcome to the platform, I saw start with TLOU:R and then work your way through all of the PS4 Remastered games up to current. That should give you a glimpse into the matrix atleast...
Spencer is targeting the right audience for Xbox with those comments. Their fans prefer shooting games over anything else, so give your fanbase what they really wants. I'm sure lots of playstation fans would welcome all those Devs who're creating singleplayer games.
Maybe for some this doesn't sound right, but looking at the numbers of games that are selling on the Xbox platform, he's totally right when talking about his own platform.
Are you referring to Phil's comments or the comments from the author? You are essentially basing your opinion off of someone else's opinion of Phil's opinion. Personally I will wait and see what actually happens and base my opinions on that.
you're jumping the gun based on Phil pointing out the direction the industry trends? You have no idea nor does this writer have on the direction that Phil is going to lead Microsoft in. Considering that service based games do no mean no single player focused elements people need to stop with the overreaction
Personally i think it is good to swap every once in a while. Have you played The last of us, Uncharted or any of the other big games? If not you are in for a great experience if you switch. Plus you can always jump back in a few years once the xbox has hopefuly built up a decent list of exclusives that you will have missed.
“The audience for those big story-driven games… I won’t say it isn’t as large, but they’re not as consistent,” he says. “You’ll have things like Zelda or Horizon Zero Dawn that’ll come out, and they’ll do really well, but they don’t have the same impact that they used to have, because the big service-based games are capturing such a large amount of the audience.” -phil spencer
honestly this is why I cannot bring myself to support MS. As enticing as the specs are for the scorpio, Xbox will never have the diverse gaming ecosystem that Sony or even nintendo brings to the console industsry. Arguably whatever they show at E3 might be a step in the right direction but until then I'll keep enjoying what Sony is bringing to the table
I'm not interested in Xbox but I find annoying when Phil downplay games from other platform with some sort of alternate facts. Its like when he was talking about VR games last year. He sounds like he has no clue tbh
I remember that. He said that the PSVR was only good for tech demos. Now, this year, he's like "hey we like PSVR! Our teams meet and play PSVR and hi five it's other everyday. It's not because we have a new VR alternative thanks to AMD, I swear!"
I didn't like his comment about large story based games either, but I that isn't what I expect from M$ anyway. I bet my big story games from Bethesda and other 3rd party who know how to make those games to my taste. I like Zelda games that I have played too, by the way.
Having said that, he did not attack PSVR. He said the software for all VR at the moment is like tech Demos. I don't know if PSVR sucks or not, but It VR as a whole is stagnant and needs something to make more gamers interested enough to make the investment. So getting oversensitive and flirting with lying about what the man said isn't what PS VR needs. By the way, Scorpio with have VR games.
Let me just focus on the VR part. He is absolutely correct in that VR is NOT going to be big on consoles for some time and the best place to curate VR is on PC.
Just look at it from a realist point of view, VR is more similar to 3D TV. It will take time to catch if it even does. Like he stated, until you remove the wires and deliver a close to as good experience most people are not going to buy into it. But please I want people to invest their feelings, their wants and desires into VR that way when it falls away it will be that much more spectacular to watch. You would think that all reasoning would prove that VR is not the godsend certain vocal groups think it is. People think VR gaming is going to be the norm before VR movies... it is kinda laughable.
Still, more than kind of a lame thing to say when they've either got nothing to offer in VR as they enter the ring, or will be largely dependent on 3rd parties to offer anything.
Nevermind saying that when they've made bold claims and demos regarding AR and have yet to deliver anything of substance. Are they even still doing anything with their AR tech?
@Bigpappy 'getting oversensitive and flirting with lying about what the man said '
Wow talk about getting oversensitive while you call me a liar? Whether you agree with what he said or not, I don't lie. His words (about games not on xbox) are plain and clear.
Show me the real facts about how consistent the sales of single player experiences are compared to that of MP driven experiences then. Also, many people in the industry agree with Spencer on the current state of VR, and it was smart of MS to let 3rd parties make AR headsets that will be compatible with the XB1/Scorpio.
It's you who have no clue what you're talking about OB1. If you don't lie, then you are clearly delusional.
Silly Game AR, Phil said that all the games currently available (which would have been launch titles at that time) were tech demos because devs didn't have time t mature their software yet. He said that MS wanted to wait until the tech and games evolved a bit before committing to anything. You are also clueless.
