From Alien Isolation to Outlast 2, Complaining About Dying In Horror Games Is Getting Old

Then go back and play them. I did, and I crushed them without even trying.

The only games that were "Hard", were games in the 80's - but those were artificially hard because of how insanely short they were. All it took was an hour or two of practice, and then you could beat the ENTIRE game from start to finish in 3 hours lol. That is NOT hard!

I don't know, it just felt annoying to me. So many fake exits in Outlast 2 that you have to pray to pick the right route. You just end up dying over and over again until you pick the single right route to take. It really breaks the immersion and the first Outlast wasn't like that at all. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game but the complaints like this are pretty understandable.

but they usually light up the path you need to go. It's a little visual hint that's really easy to use to avoid getting lost.

Eh, I don't think it was like that all the time. For instance there is a part with 2 doors like right next to each other where both doors are lit but one of them is locked. A lot of people seem to agree there is a lot of trial and error in this game rather then it being so simple as to follow the light.

I miss third person horror games. All these fps horrors are all the same. Just playing hide and seek.

Not really.

FPS in horror doesn't make it anything more or less then 3rd person in horror.

Its what the developers do with the concept.

You are not just running and hiding in RE7 bud. Being first person doesn't automatically mean you'll just run and hide, no more then being in 3rd person means that.

That would be like me saying Clocktower you do nothing but run and hide, THUS "all these TPS horrors are all the same"

You are not running and hiding in all FPS horrors, just like you are not always doing fighting in TPS horrors.

You are categorizing a view point based on something that is actually irrelevant to the genre.

If I put Outlast series in 3rd person, you legit think that automatically means you can fight? I mean..I know you can't be this slow and I know you legit have to get that such a thing doesn't make sense.

The developers made the concept "hide and seek", that didn't just magically happen cause it was in FPS.

I didn't die that much in Alien even playing on the hardest difficulty. I'm not boasting but I was scared shitless and any little sound would get me extra cautious and I would take my time.

Offcourse you're gonna die a lot if you think youre Rambo and youre gonna run through it like its a piece of cake

Nobody complains about dying in Dark Souls, Uncharted, Halo, or Mario.

Why? Because you only die when it's your fault. It's fair.

However in my experience the grand majority of horror games suck. They are scary for 30 min, and then turn into second-rate horror games with outdated combat mechanics. Scary games are meant to be scary. If you die 100 times it stops being scary because it is predictable, and nothing predictable is scary.

I don't mind the dying part, it's the games that don't let me have a weapon of some sort that drives me nuts. I know they are trying to make more tense by forcing me to run and hide while being chased but it's unrealistic and immersion breaking to me.
