EddieNX how is your switch connected to the internet? I have mine connected via the usb to Lan in the dock and so far not had any issues with Mario kart or RMX.

I do hope we here more about what will happen with online soon though as no chat is going my head in at the moment esp playing MK with my mates and brother online as one great part of MP is the banter.

I just think Nintendo fucked up and you can't see that. You have Mario kart, I have drive club, forza and soon gran turismo. Oh and assetto corsa and project cars (kars?), and they all run on reliable networks that have had years to dial in. . Plenty to be hurt about there.... not really.

Half the price for half the functionality then SNES/NES games for one month regardless of your subscription. Nothing has ever been mentioned about cloud saves. Considering saves go to the cartridge and not the system it likely won't happen.

Not true I won the physical copy of BotW and the save progress isn't stored on the cart cartridge plus it is now 2017 there's no excuse for not being able to back-up your data.

I'm totally on EddieNX's side on this one. PS4/XBONE owners were playing remasters while I was playing Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade X, and Splatoon (which all looked fantastic and played great). Now everyone complains that Nintendo has a new console and they put Mario Kart 8 out again while they prepare the rest...

E3 for Nintendo this year, they're gonna be droppin' bombs like it's Hiroshima.

Actually, remasters make up a very small percentage of games released this gen (even early this gen), this has been proven time and again. So the whole "remasters" thing is just false. And while you were playing Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Splatoon... PS4/XB1 gamers were playing their own exclusives and a plethora of multi platform games that never made it to the WiiU.

Now let me bring you to the present where... while Switch gamers are playing BoTW and Mario Kart 8 (both games I have for the WiiU)... I beat Nier, playing Nioh, and have yet to start Horizon, TLG, Gravity Rush 2, and Persona 5.

And I wouldn't get my hopes up for this year at E3. Just like last years show was completely Zelda, this year will probably be completely Mario Odyssey. Expecting bombs to drop is just setting yourself up for disappointment. I'd recommend being cautiously optimistic at best.

On topic: The author is correct. The complete lack of features does mean that Nintendo isn't ready to sell their paid service, which is probably why they are not charging at the moment. Although I do think that when they do end up charging for it it won't be worth it. Having to use a smartphone for online chat is just unacceptable in 2017 among other things.

EDIT: I should also note that I haven't started BoTW yet either, I plan to play that next before getting to Horizon.

Pretty much. I'm not expecting it to have every feature from every other game copy-pasted, but it's a given that there will be tons of online multiplayer fanatics who will come in here just to overblow that stuff into sounding like it breaks the entire game, when it doesn't.

The actual online component is gonna run smoother and smoother as they continue patching it, and it's already near perfect as is unless your connection sucks.

Trial period. If Sony or Ms released a console missing these features they would be slammed. If it's a trial period they should be trialing the features. Nintendo fanboys would never admit that Mario Kart 8 or Splatoon had online issues on Wii U. The first few months of MK8 I would get kicked out of about 35% of races & often be in races with just one or two other people. They eventually improved it tho. Splatoon had a significant amount of lag. Absolutely unplayable occasionally. Plus some connection issues. I have barely player Switch games online but in my little experience MK8D seemed to run fine but there are obviously some really annoying online restrictions. And Fast RMX online was pretty much broken. I got an error in almost every match I joined and couldn't find a race with more than three other people.

PSN's structure didn't dramatically change when PSN started in 2010 or become mandatory on PS4 in 2013, and it didn't need to since the structure was already great when those two events happened. Same can't be said for NN's current online structure.

"The structure was already great" - Great enough that their own structure and mismanagement of PSN coupled with old code and servers missing updates allowed the PSN hack. Their "great" network was completely offline for over three weeks. If it was "great" none of those scenarios would exist. Particularly the part involving being down for three weeks while they updated PSN.

To top it all off rather you're speaking of PSN or PS+ at that point is irrelevant as you pointed out PS+ came out in 2010. A paid service. It was hacked in 2011.

I own a 4k HDR, PS4 Pro with VR..I bought a switch for how FUN Nintendo games are, I am a sony fanboy for life (and my comment history will reflect that), but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is hands down my favorite game so far this year, also I havent played a wii u so this is from a first time buyer perspective, the online is great, actually its what I play 90% of the time when I start Mario Kart. Graphics are good, being what it is, but you'll have more fun with this game than you will find with a lot of your higher graphic heavy games.

It means that the hardware is more appealing to consumers than the Wii U was. Mario Kart 8 was one of the best selling titles on that console. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a very good game, and arguably the best entry in a very beloved franchise. I'm not sure how that is so unbelievable.

So being a huge fan of Nintendo products I bought into the deluxe edition of MK8 even though I have the WiiU verson with all the DLC. I played online and kept getting disconnects randomly. So I even went out and bought a wired USB dongle..no luck still getting disconnects randomly and horrible in game lag. I won't pay the yearly subscription If they can't fix this issue. I have almost none of these issues on the WiiU version of the game. Just saying

Unpopular Opinion:

I honestly DO NOT want voice chat on the Switch...it's kind of peaceful not hearing all the profanity and racism and screaming infants/siblings. It's nice to just assume that everyone is just a peace loving gamer enjoying a game for good fun in good faith.

As it stands right now? No I wouldn't pay for it. I still receive disconnects from time to time, and there aren't any of the amenities that XBL and PSN provide for their paid services. That being said, I can also understand how it is difficult for a relatively small company (compared to the other manufacturers that is) to try and provide a great and stable networking system for millions of users without the funding.

I think Nintendo should have implemented a service fee more like PS+ on the PS3. Entirely optional, but provides incentive to those who pay by giving out "free" games and helps boost their online infrastructure.

The fact MK8 Delux doesn't let me invite friends or even chat with them is inexcusable. System and games rock, features would be unacceptable a decade ago. No media apps or even apps period, no streaming services, no voice chat or cross game chat, no trophies, no friend invites exc. Hope they don't expect me to pay for their service because I won't ever do it. Not until there's everything I just mentioned. Still wouldn't be happy about it but I could swallow it for trophies, free games, and voice chat.

Ahh.. it's not a normal N4G day when there isn't a Nintendo bashing article of some sort on the hot articles... and always right next to some pro-Sony article. Never stop N4G (Nintendo_4get it) site. I've never had these MP issues. At all.

I don't think I've ever used my Wii U for online anything and I don't see myself playing online anything for the switch. I think most people just buy Nintendo because they like Nintendo games. I don't​get why the internet rages over it. Like if you don't have a switch and don't plan on getting it that's great and nobody really cares. But why are there so many people hating. Go play the games and systems that you claim are better than this. It's funny how mad you people are when you don't own a switch or plan to buy one. Go away this has nothing to do with you.

It seems to me that this article is stating the obvious. Correct! Nintendo is not ready to sell online services... that's why they aren't doing so.
