‘What Remains of Edith Finch’: The Evolution of the Walking Simulator

Sit down for a second. I'm going to tell you a story. It's a good one, and I think you're going to like it. It has everything a great story should have. It has love in every facet imaginable. It has a bevy of imagination. It has mystery and intrigue. And, of course, it has tragedy.

Between this and The Jimquisitions high praise, I think I'll need to check this out. I had previous written off 'Walking Sims'

mogwaii2106d ago

Because you bought into all the call of duty brotards shit talking, think for yourself.

OldManMordaith2106d ago

Never really got in to games like Call of Duty. I played some walking sims before, Dear Esther stands out. I wanted to enjoy it, but I couldn't get into it. I just assumed that they were not for me based on a few bad experiences. This one looks really interesting. With so many questionably good video games, I am glad to have the chance to change my mind about an entire genre.

Or maybe he's just not that into walking sims? Grow up.

Knushwood Butt2106d ago

You could have made that point with more diplomacy.

On topic, Everyone's gone to the rapture is a good walking sim.

Hey, OldMan. I'm glad you're giving this one a chance. Dear Esther was pretty thin, storywise. I think you'll enjoy this one.

There's a few genuine gems which may be light on gameplay mechanics, but find impressive subtleties in their level design. Another one I'd recommend you try out is Firewatch.

It's getting ridiculous reviews. Averaging a 90.

Why would u write off an entire genre? Judge games on a game by game basis.

OldManMordaith2106d ago

Some game types don't always appeal to everyone. There are FPS games out there that I know some people will never play, no matter how high the scores, because they just don't like. Just like some people don't like comedies or sci-fi, regardless of how strongly the movie or book maybe reviewed.

From what I've seen of this one, it has opened my mind to revisiting a genre I wrote off as not for me. Not entirely sure why that is being seen by some people as a bad thing? Ah well, I look forward to giving it a try. Hats off to all you folk out there that have the time and money to try every single genre and game. It is a position I envy - and maybe someday I'll get on that level.

Damn another masterpiece from PlayStation! I'm pretty hyped as I'm finally playing Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and the atmosphere, presentation and visuals are just top notch.
