Gee I wonder why Dead Rising 4 would underperform? Surely it's not cuz of a trend that seems to befall most exclusives/timed exclusives of a certain platform

lelo2play2976d ago

I'm no genius, but maybe Dead Rising 4 underperformed because it was crap?
Well, it's just my wild guess, but you probably know better them me why it underperformed.

GamesMaster19822976d ago

Correct, I love the Dead Rising series but 4 was a complete letdown. The only good thing about 4 was the xmas setting.

_-EDMIX-_2976d ago

Agreed.

maybe because its simply a bad game.

S2Killinit2976d ago

Its a little bit of both. Who is going to make a proper exclusive for a console with half the market share?

LordMaim2976d ago

It can be two things. The changes to DR4 certainly didn't do it any favors.

TheCommentator2976d ago (Edited 2976d ago )

S2Killinit, do you actually believe what you typed?

The answer to your question is any dev who signed a contract, has pride in their workmanship, and wants to continue be successful. If there are devs out there who behave as you suggest, they're not going to be around much longer when their lackluster games produce lackluster profits. Basically, they'd be tarnishing their reputations more than they'd hurting MS and wouldn't be able to pay their bills.

ThePope2976d ago

It didnt have Co-op which is why it failed. DR3 is still one of the best co-op games I've ever played

ocelot072976d ago

It was ok better than 3. But no where as good as 1 or 2.

81BX2976d ago

It wasn't crap. It was well made just the same ol dead rising.

LamerTamer2976d ago (Edited 2976d ago )

Ignoring over half of the installed console base didn't help. Making it XB1 exclusive was a mistake. If you are going to do that at least make it exclusive for the one with the largest installed base, simple economics. If not hopefully for them that check from MS was big enough to make up the difference.

jeremyj29132976d ago

What makes it worse than the others? I've never liked the series so I figured it's fans were like ppl that like the Monster Hunter games.

@FallenAngel1984

... so why did Street Fighter V (also from Capcom) underperform?

LexHazard792976d ago (Edited 2976d ago )

Yeah and on a certain platform.

refocusedman2976d ago

Street fighter 5 was shipped as an incomplete mess thats why.

freshslicepizza2976d ago

@Abracadabra

please stop bringing logic here. dead rising 4 scored lower than street fighter 5 as well. the thing is capcom will strike a deal with anyone and how does having a vr mode exclusive to one vr (resident evil 7) help vr flourish?

_-EDMIX-_2976d ago

Completely agreed.

Capcom right now is legit on life support, RE and Monster Hunter are the only things holding that company up right now.

IamTylerDurden12976d ago

Not the same situation at all. Two different content structures as well.

DR4 shipped as a generally finished game and final product, it just wasn't very good. SFV shipped as a bare-bones game that lacked the content and support it would later receive. Though SFV is a quality at this very moment, the fact that it shipped in such an incomplete state dramatically impacted initial sales.

DR4 is just not a good game, SFV was an incomplete game. Tbh, the comparison becomes even murkier when considering Capcom was completely open about the content structure of SFV and that it would not ship fully featured. They were also open about the multiple season pass structure a la Killer Instinct. As well, with each season pass and with each tournament SFV will receive a slight boost in sales. The sales numbers for SFV have far more potential for growth than that of DR4.

Furthermore, SFV is not an inherently bad game and never was. The core gameplay, art, and design have always been strong, but it just seems as though fans and critics alike really objected to the new content/business model and in turn it received a ton of negative press.

jrshankill2976d ago

@IamTylerDurden1

SFV is not "quality" at the moment. It's awful. Still no arcade mode, awful story mode, tailored towards pro players and generally a poor entry into the franchise. There are many different, better fighters out there in this gen. MKX and Killer Instinct to name a few.

Knushwood Butt2976d ago (Edited 2976d ago )

^

If you want to play against the CPU, play Survival mode.

Otherwise, learn the game, and play against human opponents.

FallenAngel19842976d ago

It was released in an unfinished state

It's not rocket science

2pacalypsenow2976d ago

I think it had more to do with how terrible the game was and not because it was Xbox exclusive

ocelot072976d ago

Wasn't even an xbox exclusive. It came out on the Windows store the same time as it released on the XB1. Plus it also release on steam about a month ago.

I enjoyed it personally. With it being a timed console exclusive to xbox for a year (until December 2017). I think they will release a complete edition for PS4/PC/Xbox and maybe event he Switch.

princejb1342976d ago

Well to be fair dead rising went downhill after 2
The first one was fun cause of its originality. After a while it gets boring and repetitive

LordMaim2976d ago

Off the Record was good too.

XanderZane2976d ago

Dead Rising 4 is crap, that's why it underperformed. It's not multiplat either like Resident Evil 7.

ShadowKnight2976d ago

Maybe because Xbox one install base is small this gen

jrshankill2976d ago

but it was on Windows too, so surely it wasnt an exclusive?

Or do you guys just change the argument to better fit the agenda?

seanpitt232976d ago

Dead rising 4 looked mediocre that's probably why, they have a good premise to improve on the previous titles but somehow they make each title worse.
The physics and gameplay was badly executed could of been so much better.

Glad RE7 did well they deserve it, was a step in the right direction.

EatCrow2976d ago (Edited 2976d ago )

Of all the Dead Rising's you really missed the mark on commenting about this one.
It was not very good. Probably the worst for me so far.
Also @ Acadabra counters your argument very well. Good for some lolz

Glad RE did well. It probably reached 4 Million or more with digital included.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2976d ago (Edited 2976d ago )

Dead Rising 4 underperformed because it wasn't made very well. The level of detail and gore was severely lacking. So much so that fans of the series were saying Dead Rising 2 was a better game in terms of detail and gore.

SaveFerris2976d ago

I guess there may not be a Dead Rising 5, but the sequels never did seem to match the success of the first game.

Eldyraen2976d ago

First game was a novelty released before most big games hit the systems. We saw some in March and some not much later, but DR hit during a dry August. I enjoyed it and played it a ton, but it didn't have as much competition then which helped a lot.

2+ became more and more "over the top fun" where novelty wears off more and more however.

5 would need to go big in terms of adding a better story, more activities, etc with a bit of Just Cause 3 thrown in (if you are going to go over the top, really go over the top with action and not just have crazy weapons). Maybe a bigger world with a mix of human survivors, military outposts/holding cells (survivors/zombies), and horses of zombies still. Focus less on hundreds of trash zombies so much and make things more interesting in general.

XiNatsuDragnel2976d ago

Okay underperformed because quality, COD is steady underperforming because of quality. Games that do well are usually good in quality. Simple logic.

kevnb2976d ago

COD still outperforms pretty much everything else.

XiNatsuDragnel2976d ago

But steady decline was because of quality and add to on lack of listening to fans. It goes to show that good games do sell more then p*** ones.

-Foxtrot2976d ago

They wanted 4 million RE7 copies in the first day

https://gamerant.com/reside...

Hopefully the RE2 Remake will wipe the floor with this *fingers crossed*

NapalmSanctuary2976d ago

The hillbilly horror tropes and the first person camera killed it for me. Returnable, used copy FTW. Hopefully RE2 remake is actually faithful to the original with no ots or fp crap.

Truly amazing!

Draws inspiration clearly draws gameplay inspiration from Assassins Creed and action cinematics from Uncharted!

Powered by UE5!

Definitely on my radar!

raWfodog2h ago

Eastern devs are putting in that work this gen. The quality of their games have been top-notch across the board. Looking forward to seeing more of this game in action.

Other devs need to take notes and step their game up, figuratively and literally.

Lightning7712h ago

Looks very good why wasn't this at SGF?

Obscure_Observer9h ago

Probably because this trailer wasn´t ready yet.

I doubt the developers would miss the opportunity to reveal their games to millions of gamers on four major events like Summer Game Fest, Future Games Show, State of Play or Xbox Showcase on purpose.

Napoca864h ago(Edited 4h ago)

This feels like 90% stolen from Uncharted and the guy is also falling or almost falling to often down. Nah this is to much show, something is strange here.

Sonyslave33h ago

It does look like it could be staged or the combat might be like hellblade, but i have hope the devs made naraka battle royal game.

pwnmaster30001h ago

This reminds me a bit of uncharted, ghost, Gow and AC.

Count me in.

The director of the original Silent Hill: “I look forward to seeing bold interpretations.”

Keiichiro Toyama—the creator and original director of the 1999 Silent Hill—shared his personal thoughts on the recently announced remake by Konami, reflecting on what the project means to him after more than two decades:
“I felt something similar when the game was adapted into a movie. It deeply moved me to see the names of the characters and locations I had created come to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the fans and the dedication of the developers who’ve kept the series alive.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the remake evolves this time. With the advanced technology we now have, I’m sure I’ll be surprised by how the game is reimagined. Since the original was built for the first PlayStation, there will naturally be challenges—like the camera and controls—but I’m eager to see bold and creative solutions to those elements.”

Haha Not only is bold and creatively not what the industry wants, it’s not what most people want.

They want to get scammed and pay twice for a thing they already own.

Nightcrawler8911h ago

Hope they use his vision in the game

Inverno10h ago

Was the SH2 remake even bold? Or was it more or less just a 1 to 1 over the shoulder remake?

Pedrof10h ago

I wouldn't hold my breath on "bold".

Where to watch Capcom Spotlight, when it kicks off in your region, and what to expect

Capcom Spotlight is just around the corner: tune in to see the latest titles being shown off by the Japanese masters.

SockeyBoy10h ago

I feel a new DMC on the horizon.

thorstein7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

New IP, please. Used to be (in the 80s) if it was a Capcom game, you knew it was good.

jznrpg6h ago

Pragmata is a new IP so there’s that. Another one would be nice though

Babadook75h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Honestly Capcom is still somewhat of a seal of quality for me.

shinXseijuro5h ago

Trust me I’m a Capcom baby. Got fond memories of Megaman and all the good library they had on snes 😂 . I always felt bummed Capcom shunned Megaman tho ever since inafune left the company . Pragmata seems like it’s a new Megaman sort of
