Bandai Namco's Code Vein might have released into a flooded market. Does anyone care about another vampire title?

There are barely any Vampire games though?

nitus102981d ago

At least a vampire game has more potential than another zombie game.

Nitrowolf22981d ago (Edited 2981d ago )

Jesus, i had to read the article.

I dont understand what is going thrpugh this persons mind, as they try to compare the number of zombies games vs vampire games, yet even still vampire games are released in huge gap of time vs zombies.

Come on, can someone on console name me a recent vampire game?

Not gonna count skyrim remaster cause its a remaster.

Also this game hasnt even been fully revealed, yet as a vampire game to me looking at it, it doesnt look like the average vampire hunter game that we see so many of

DaFeelz2981d ago

Vampire Rain. And that game was AWESOME! In the absolute worst way imaginable. Haven't really seen a stand alone vampire console title since. Or am I missing something?

Princess_Pilfer2981d ago

They've already lives up to that potential It's named Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines,, and therei's basically no point trying to surpass it.

It's to vampire games what The Godfather is to crime dramas. You can't beat it, find something else to do. Any direct comparisons will make your thing look like garbage.

Feriku2981d ago

Vampyr is planned for this year, and... there was a game called Dark in 2013, that I think was about a vampire? Otherwise, though, I can't think of any recent vampire games.

Uncle Tom Coon.

trooper_2981d ago

I know, right?

I don't mind vampire games as long as they're well made.

WelkinCole2981d ago

Was going to say the same thing.

notachance2981d ago (Edited 2981d ago )

lol he said flooded yet only mention what? 2 recent titles? they're not even that recent...

if this isn't an attempt to downplay code vein then the author must be high or really blind.

Yui_Suzumiya2980d ago

Or a mean, stupid face, doo doo head, vagina hole :€

Rachel_Alucard2981d ago

The fact he had to add Akibas trip to the list of "Vampire games" and he included a DLC for a series that has always had vampires speaks for itself how far he jumped through hoops to get this topic to make sense. He even included Killing Floor 2 in the zombies games even though you're shooting at genetically created mutants.

There's no such thing as a flooded market imo. If your game is unique and fun people will play it. There's lots of shooters out there but 1 shooter might appeal to someone in a way that another shooter didn't. I'm not a fan of Call of Duty per se but I think Resistance: Fall of Man was pretty much the best concept for a shooter ever.

Eiyuuou2981d ago

The atmosphere and story of Resistance was amazing!

rando 2981d ago (Edited 2981d ago )

@ Sharingan_no_Kakashi: i beg to differ. WW2 shooters flooded the market 12-13 years ago. zombie games were a flooded market. futuristic FPS was a flooded market. thats why Infinite Warfare's sales were way down because between Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3, Infinite Warfare, Master Chief Collection, Halo 5, Titanfall 1 & 2 people were sick of futuristic FPS. there's totally such a thing as a flooded market & i'd argue the market is flooded with open-world games & always-online grind-a-thons like Destiny, The Division & Ghost Recon Wildlands. only a matter of time before that bubble bursts as well.

bloop2981d ago

TLOU was a zombie game that released into a flooded market too though, and look how that turned out.

_-EDMIX-_2981d ago

"WW2 shooters flooded the market 12-13 years ago"

Nope.

and when you say "flooded" you mean Metal Of Honor and Call Of Duty? That is "flooded" to you folks?

"zombie games were a flooded market" Zombie game, is not a genre.

How can an enemy type "flood" a market when the genre itself is the market and Zombie is not a genre?

That is like saying generic Skeleton guy with sword and shield is FLOODING the market...

Sooooo "open-world games" is not a genre. So Ghost Recon and Zelda are not the same bud, both of them cater to DIFFERENT MARKETS!

"always-online" Not a market, its not a genre...

You have MMOs that are "always-online", you have many games that are always online.....why someone is playing Destiny, is different then them playing Guild Wars...they are DIFFERENT MARKETS!

To understand what "market" is or a genre, you actually need to know the WHY they are playing.

So they are playing it only because it is open world?
So they are playing it only because it has zombies and NOTHING ELSE?
So they are playing it only because its always online?

So ask yourself, if this doesn't define the actual PURPOSE of the game, how can it fit a genre, how can it fit a market?

Zombie is not the core focus of something like The Last Of Us, you can't play Left 4 Dead and FULLY understand the last of us before playing it.

You can't play Guild Wars, thus fully understand Destiny

You can't play 100 hours of Ghost Recon THUS love Zelda.

You are making it sound as if those features alone, are the genre, they are not.

Genre - "a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter."

Soooooooo zombie may be an enemy type, but it is not the actual purpose of the actual gameplay mechnics, you can have a Zombie RPG, so we have too many Zombie games, so you know what a zombie RPG is and will pass?

You can have a open world RPG and an open world shooter.......so you know you don't like open world games, so regardless of genre, you know it will be bad thus pass?

Do you not understand that the concepts you brought up are not actually the core defining concepts of those games right?

rando 2981d ago

@ -EDMIX- ... Call of Duty, COD2, COD3, COD:Big Red One, COD: Finest Hour, COD: Road To Victory, COD: World at War, Hour of Victory, Battlefield 1942, Brothers In Arms, BIA: Road To Hill 30, BIA: Earned In Blood, Sniper Elite, Medal of Honor, MOH: Frontline, MOH: Heroes 1 & 2, MOH: Allied Assault, MOH: Pacific Assault, MOH: European Assault, i could go on & on...

around the time COD released & the years following... there was a glut of WW2 games. because of the breakout success of Call of Duty the market was FLOODED with them, people were SICK of them & begged for a Modern Warfare game, hence the success of COD4... but you're probably too young & don't know about any of that.

http://www.ign.com/articles...

i shouldn't even get in to the rest of your TL;DR post because you're clearly just arguing over specific wording & semantics. "always online, grindy games like Destiny, The Division" i don't know the name of the genre, but its CLEARLY a genre of game... you knew EXACTLY what i meant by that description.

"zombie game" is not a genre, but its a common theme that has flooded the market in the last 5 years or so & people are tired of it. that was my point, which you completely missed. The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series, Dead Rising 4, Days Gone, Killing Floor 2, Dead Island: Riptide, How to Survive 2, State of Decay 2, Resident Evil 7, Overkill's The Walking Dead, Dead Island 2, Dying Light 2, and Left 4 Dead 3 (that list is straight from the article) they didn't even mention Last of Us 2 but you seem like the type of guy to say "you're wrong!!! TLOU's infected are not really zombies!!!" while completely missing the point... so I wont even go there with you.

since people are burnt out on zombies, games with Vampire, Blood, or Lovecraftian themes are beginning to see an uptick in numbers. which is the point the article is trying to make.
Bloodborne, Vampyr, Code Vein etc.

everyone else here gets the point the article is making. if you're just here to troll people in the comments over semantics & wording.... save your keystrokes. they're not wanted.

morganfell2981d ago

It should never be about the number of games in a genre released but rather the number of quality games released. Do we need another mediocre vampire of zombie game? No. Do we need a quality vampire or zombie game? Absolutely.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

thejigisup2981d ago

@bloop, TLOU is not a zombie game!

_-EDMIX-_2981d ago (Edited 2981d ago )

@TF- why are you spamming?

Sorry but your post is still incorrect.

To name COD and all if its sequels is no different then saying we have too many racing moves and then just start naming all the Fast and Furious films.

The Last Of Us is a zombie game, yet when on to break lots of records and sell huge.

Why?

The Last Of Us isn't Left 4 Dead, its not Dead Island, soooooo naming an enemy type as the genre doesn't make sense. It makes as much sense as saying GTA and Gran Turismo are hte same because they have cars in them.

Is someone really this stupid? I mean..if someone states that they are tired of the market being flooded by car games, so just add GTA, Mario Kart, Gran Turismo RIGHT IN THE MIX?

Who is this stupid though?

Even the COD's you named, are not the same as Halo, which isn't teh same as Destiny, all 3 of thsoe game have vastly different concepts in terms of play.

Getting tired of COD, doesn't mean you hate Destiny, doesn't mean you hate Halo.

JUST LIKE getting tired of Left 4 Dead, doesn't mean you hate Dead Island, doesn't mean you'll hate The Last Of Us.

Simply saying a thing that is in the game, doesn't suddenly tell you all you need to know.

Its just too stupid and only the slowest of the slow buy game based on such things. Next thing you know, you going to come around here talking about "there's totally such a thing as a flooded market & i'd argue the market is flooded with games where they breath air"

LMFAO!

Be like "only a matter of time before under water games take over bro"

The fact that you think "always online" is a market is too funny. Sorry but they are just not the same things. Someone who play Destiny, is not playing it for the same reason someone is play Guild Wars for.

The "always online" aspect is part of it, it is NOT THE WHOLE MARKET OR GENRE! That is beyond idiotic.

@Bloop- AGREED! People (smart people anyway) buy games based on quality, not based on if the enemy type is "zombie" lol

Thats like saying you hate Candy Crush, put some zombies on it and suddenly its GOTY! lol People play games based on quality, not simply enemy type solely. Having a Zombie in your game, doesn't mean it will be good, zombie is NOT a genre, thus its hard to argue its a market of its own when the games are way, way too vastly different even be compared on such a level.

Dumb slow kidz be like " The Last Of Us? Heard its about zombies, played 100 hours of Left 4 Dead so same thing, not missing much, better skip it, I know all I need to know from Left 4 Dead"

RabbitFly2981d ago

@_-EDMIX-_
""zombie games were a flooded market" Zombie game, is not a genre. "

"Genre - "a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter." "

Zombie is a genre because Zombie games have similarities in style and subject matter.

You are literally arguing against your own point here. And I hate to use the term literally.

Genres are not only defined by gameplay style. Trends in markets happen. I don't even understand why you want to deny that.

I might not agree with TFxGod either. The so called flooding of markets only happen because publishers and developers can see a demand for what they are supplying. However his point that these things usually comes and goes in waves is true. And your denial of it is slightly strange to me.

thejigisup2981d ago

@ bloop and others who disagree
TLOU is not a zombie game, there is a significant difference between the affected enemies in TLOU and zombies. If you didnt play TLOU and you assume its a zombie game, you're missing out. If you did play TLOU and think its a zombie game you too are missing out. There's a logical story in there and it does not involve zombies.

morganfell2980d ago

If you played TLOU and you think it is a zombie game...let's be honest...you didn't really play TLOU.

BlacKJesu52981d ago

Call of Juarez...had a sequel too

_-EDMIX-_2981d ago (Edited 2981d ago )

@TFx- you named sequels to many series bud, that is like saying we are flooded with Western Shows and I name Dead Wood and all its seasons.

So to say "Call Of Duty, Call Of Duty 2" is no different then saying we have a flooded market of car moves then say "Fast and Furious 1, 2 Fast 2 Furious" etc

Sorry but you are simply naming many sequels to established IPs.

When you actually simply look at the IP, you have COD, Medal Of Honor, Battlefield, Brothers in Arms etc.

Many of those titles are vastly different in terms of play style and what you do (COD and Medal Of Honor being the closest to concept)

Battlefield isn't like COD, COD isn't like Brothers In Arms etc.

"but its a common theme that has flooded the market in the last 5 years or so & people are tired of it"

tired of an enemy type?

Sure.

That sounds pretty stupid to me bud. You not playing a game cause a zombie is the enemy regardless of genre?

" type of guy to say "you're wrong!!! TLOU's infected are not really zombies!" ???? ummmm nope. I don't know why you thought at was anything I believed. My point is that they are different games. You are talking about DIFFERENT GENRES

So is Left 4 Dead getting boring so skip The Last Of Us?

OH you played 100 hours of Dying Light so no need to buy Days Gone, all the same?

Soooo sure. "people were SICK" thats nice.

What kind of slow people thought those titles were the same and do you really think the industry should be listen to people this stupid in the first place?

If someone is so stupid, so slow as basically assume the enemy type means the same game, or the same era ie WWII means the same game, they are just too dumb to really take seriously or to even be taking into consideration in regards to how someone makes their games.

Soooooo no, Dying Light isn't going to suddenly make you not play The Last Of Us 2.

Lots of games are based on earth, you going to tell me "the market was FLOODED with them, people were SICK of them & begged for a non-earth game" lol

or

"since people are burnt out on earth games" LMFAO!

I mean...who is playing the game SOLELY because of a zombie? That is like saying you would play a genre you HATE because a zombie was in it, you play it for the concept, for the GENRE, not simply because of the enemy type.

Liking The Last Of US, doesn't mean you'll LOVE Left 4 Dead bud.

Its just one of the dumbest things I've read in a very, very long time.

@Black- "Call of Juarez...had a sequel too"

Thats a 3rd person open world game?

Soooooo "Red Dead legit are the only of their kind, besides Gun"

Demon's Souls isn't Soulslike. It's the original Souls game. WTF? And Elden Ring?

Another Crab's Treasure simply is not.

All the journos claiming things are "Soulslike" simply don't know what that word means.

GeeEssEff132d ago

The term “Soulslike” has become ridiculously diluted. I have seen it used for games just because they are difficult.

Cacabunga132d ago

Reminds me of Doom like back in the days for every FPS game

blackblades132d ago (Edited 132d ago )

Yeah, souls, souls lite, souls like same goes for rogue.

anast131d ago

It's either AI or the writer doesn't know the subject matter.

robtion132d ago

I've played all of these bar the Crab one so not a very accurate title.

Goodguy01132d ago (Edited 132d ago )

Nioh 1+2 imo are the best souls clone. Love the melee combat and ki system, really hoping team ninja doesn't abandon the IP and continue with a new title, hell just give us your take on the western fantasy setting for a new nioh game.

robtion132d ago

Yes Nioh 2 in particular is great. Also Wo Long (which is basically Nioh 3).

qalpha132d ago

Should have included 'Lies of P'. Seriously fun game.

That's what I was going to say, great game. Best non From Soulslike I've played.

Funny. I was just thinking this should get a sequel. With the souls genre being so well known now, now is a good time. Wo Long seems to have sold pretty well.

Currently playing through the game, but I’m getting my ass handed to me at the moment with a boss fight. Two bosses at the same time, ones female fast and uses ice, while the other is a giant metal guy/robot that uses a flame thrower:

Definitely was better than I thought it was going to be, and would welcome a sequel.
