They've already lives up to that potential It's named Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines,, and therei's basically no point trying to surpass it.

It's to vampire games what The Godfather is to crime dramas. You can't beat it, find something else to do. Any direct comparisons will make your thing look like garbage.

The fact he had to add Akibas trip to the list of "Vampire games" and he included a DLC for a series that has always had vampires speaks for itself how far he jumped through hoops to get this topic to make sense. He even included Killing Floor 2 in the zombies games even though you're shooting at genetically created mutants.

There's no such thing as a flooded market imo. If your game is unique and fun people will play it. There's lots of shooters out there but 1 shooter might appeal to someone in a way that another shooter didn't. I'm not a fan of Call of Duty per se but I think Resistance: Fall of Man was pretty much the best concept for a shooter ever.

To understand what "market" is or a genre, you actually need to know the WHY they are playing.

So they are playing it only because it has zombies and NOTHING ELSE?
So they are playing it only because its always online?

So ask yourself, if this doesn't define the actual PURPOSE of the game, how can it fit a genre, how can it fit a market?

Zombie is not the core focus of something like The Last Of Us, you can't play Left 4 Dead and FULLY understand the last of us before playing it.

You can't play Guild Wars, thus fully understand Destiny

You can't play 100 hours of Ghost Recon THUS love Zelda.

TLOU is not a zombie game, there is a significant difference between the affected enemies in TLOU and zombies. If you didnt play TLOU and you assume its a zombie game, you're missing out. Legacy of Kain: BlooD Omen was awesome! I spent an entire year in high school cracked out on that game. To this day nothing even compares. I still have my PS copy and a digital version on PS3 & to me Blood Omen ranks up there with Final Fantasy VII and any other classic on the PS. Legacy of Kain Defiance, though a little buggy was great too. With more time and polish it could have been something special. While it was good it's one I could never go back to & while it was playable because I was a fan so much was frustrating about it.

Anyway, while there's likely some Japanese vampire type games there's certainly not much for games based on this subject, especially not worldwide. Perhaps in part because it's difficult to execute. Blood Omen worked so well because it wasn't 3d, it was top down. Even sucking blood for health looks badass in Blood Omen. Q Blood Omen 2 [the disaster and butchering] along with Defiance and the developers just couldn't translate that into a 3d space. While Code Vein likely won't be Blood Omen classical I think this is the first vampire game since that could be something truly special. I'm looking forward to it and hope the dev team can pull off something solid. As for too many Vampire games, I don't know where this notion came from but it's absurd.

Comparing it to zombie games isn't a comparison. First off they're two very different kinds of undead making it an apples to oranges comparison. Second off 99.99% of zombie games aren't centered around a story driven RPG where you are the zombie.

Vampires: The Masquerade is unique in that regard. Most RPG's don't have you play a villian. Particularly the undead kind.

A vampire character in an RPG like Elder Scrolls comes close, but the game isn't centered around that. You get a handful of vampire-themed quests like in Skyrim's expansion but after they are over, you're back to generic hero themed quests in the rest of the game. Most NPC's don't even have custom dialog for it other than "AAAAH IT'S A VAMPIRE!!!" when they see your true form.

Yes, gamers need a vampire game. Vampire lore is really fascinating and has a ton of room for potential, i would love a first person action rpg starring a vampire. Hell, i'd love a new bloodrayne game, the side scroller was alright, but it wasnt really good. I would love to have a game that really makes you feel like a vampire, like getting caught in the middle of the day and having to navigate shadows in a busy metropolitan area in order to not burn up under the power of the sun, or turning into a swarm of bats and hunting for prey. There is a lot of untapped potential in vampire games so the answer is yes.

I would honestly think the real question would be: "Do people really need another Soul's style game?"

Naturally that's down to personal taste but, if the market is anything to go by, two things are true: The two types of games doing well above all others this generations are Soul's style games and Open World games.

With this game there might be a split between fans of anime and fans of the Soul's games, however. With established characters and more JRPG tropes involved, it might push some Soul's fans away while introducing the JRPG audience to the Soul's formula.

Vampires are still a highly underused concept when compared to zombie games... I mean whenever I hear a developer making a zombie game I am like

Like, what have we gotten that remotely revolves around Vampires? Van Helsing? Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2? Even then, we're usually playing Vampire Hunters, rather than Vampires themselves.

Someone needs to make an open world version of The Legacy of Kain or something similar because the Zombie genre is just about used up.

Dying Light and The TellTale games The Walking Dead are the only good zombie games on PS4. The rest are not very good.
