NZGamer: LittleBigPlanet Hands On Impressions

NZGamer writes: "Flung about with abandon during my recent time with PlayStation 3's LittleBigPlanet was the phrase, 'you're only limited by your own imagination' – a cliché I usually deplore. However, LittleBigPlanet is so massive in premise and more importantly in execution, it's a cliché that is undeniably fitting. I spent only a few hours with LittleBigPlanet, but already the potential for it to surpass generic 'game of the year' awards and become an actual creative phenomenon is evident. Big words, but hear me out".

The story is too old to be commented.

"When I got my hands on the game at Sony HQ."

LOL! Biased crap. I'm sure the free buffet lunch didn't influence your opinion at all.

This is a side scrolling platformer that you can make your own levels. Some used to call it Gary's Mod but now it's been dumbed down so anybody can make a level.

I've never seen a game so overhyped this generation and yes even more than Halo. Halo never made claims of changing the face of gaming or surpassing "GOTY". Leave it to a Sony fan to say something like "it goes beyond GOTY".

Spore didn't do it, this won't do it either.

Here come the crybots

The funny thing about THIS particular crybot is that he'll constantly whine about sony fans "invading" 360 articles.

Yet look at HIM :)

Garry's mod was one of the most fun games I have played. The problems I had with it was that if you wanted to build a complex machine by bolting pieces together, the physics integrator wasn't stable enough and it would wobble all over the place. It was hard to build complex contraptions because of this, and also the fact that it's 3D and so not everything is predictable.

LittleBigPlanet solves these problems, as well as making the game very accessible and easy-to-use. You can make very complex designs and it won't crumble, look at that tetris level and one of the devs said someone made an adder (adds numbers together, fundemental building block of a CPU) in LPB. That's really amazing and shows the depth and rigidity of the system.

Also, if anyone here has played a game called "Trash It", which was another one of the most fun games I've played, that was a 2D platformer that had a co-operative element and a competitive element to the gameplay. It was tremendous fun, and it seems like LBP has captured that spirit, and then some.

So the game is more than "a side scrolling platformer that you can make your own levels". In fact, this is one of those games that I see the gameplay videos of and say "yep, getting this game first day, no doubt." Wipeout HD was exactly the same and it's awesome. So for ME, this game will likely be the best game I've played (not got into the beta unfortunately), and I can tell that from people's reactions and the gameplay videos.

For many other people who have enjoyed the beta despite it not containing all the levels, online features or create features of the whole game, it will also bring great enjoyment. For the media who have lavished praise upon this game no end, it will be an awesome game. It will get high review scores. It will sell Playstation 3s.
