wonderfulmonkeyman2973d ago

*sigh*...
I would much prefer that they stop this petulant insistence on making games focus so much time and energy on visuals.
Replayability and fun should be the focus. Not eye candy. These aren't movies.

Fist4achin2972d ago

Im with you. Id rather take a great game light on graphics, than a turd in wrapping paper with a bow.

IamTylerDurden12972d ago

Yet, Naughty Dog and Guerrilla have proven that a game can have it all. TLoU, Uncharted, and Horizon would still be great even without the best in class visuals, but the visuals certainly don't hurt.

mikeslemonade2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

lol you casual gamers always assume a person only cares about graphics the moment they start talking about GRAPHICS

What's the matter for wanting more. I want better everything, not just graphics. YOu guys are bad consumers for saying, "oh let's not focus on graphics very much, it's good enough". Well you're part of the problem since you allowing consoles to be weak like the Switch. PS poor and xbox 720p can't even keep up with a standard found in 2006 at a stable frame rate. And if you compare to last generation the Wii, 360, and PS3 were more ahead of their time than compared to the current gen consoles. And then you allowing mobile games to catch up, inducing more AAA games to die.

FallenAngel19842972d ago

You know you can have both right?

porkChop2972d ago

Yeah, it's certainly possible when devs put enough time into a project. But most devs focus primarily on graphics, and the gameplay suffers. Not every dev has the freedom and time that studios like Naughty Dog have. So yeah it's possible, but it's far from the norm.

wonderfulmonkeyman2972d ago

Even the games that claim to have the closest balance of both still sacrifice something when visuals become the bigger focus, even by a slight margin.
Rather than "having both" and seeing replayability suffer, I'd take a hit to graphics any day.

NapalmSanctuary2972d ago

@porkChop
Time is one of the issues. I'd rather devs not take quit so much time to pump out out new games.

Inzo2972d ago

Oh look 15 PC gamers disagree with you.

wonderfulmonkeyman2972d ago

I find that ironic, since most of my Skyrim playtime, actually all of it, has been on PC thus far, for the sake of mods, none of which related to graphics.XD

AnotherProGamer2972d ago

not only PC gamers

the list on the site even has 3 console only games on the list

OB1Biker2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

Sure. That's your opinion. Playing Uncharted 4 or ISS showed that wonderful graphics do enhance the gameplay experience in addition to pretty cut scenes. All matter of opinion of course.
This article is about graphics though. There's nothing wrong talking about graphics for people enjoying them don't you think?

wonderfulmonkeyman2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

I don't see how me expressing my opinion stops them from talking about it, though, as you seem to be alluding.
The highest of high tier graphics don't do as much for enhancing gameplay as the fanatics would have you believe, regardless of example, in my experience.
And that's coming from someone who's played through Uncharted 4 twice at his family's home, and has walked away distinctly unimpressed by its art style regardless of how pixel-packed the graphics were.

DeathtoOtakuDJ2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

Shouldn't be a surprise since monkey languishes anything Xbox/PS4.

wonderfulmonkeyman2971d ago

@woolie
You don't know jack shit about my preferences, so shut your mouth.
I'll have you know that I do plan on getting a PS4 for KHIII, for starters.
Not that you've been paying attention to anything I've said on the subject before now, just like every other hater who's knickers I've twisted.

OB1Biker2972d ago

I hear what your saying. Fair enough to express your disapproval.
Im sure a lot of people are interested in those graphics though. Im not sure the comments should derail into a debate graphics vs whatever.since its more of a factual list of good looking games that will be released
No doubt it could be an interesting debate with an article on the topic.

deafdani2972d ago

Dude, sorry to say this, as I usually agree with you most of the time... but this? This post of yours right here, is just you being a douche.

Don't be a douche, man. This post is exactly as bad as people shitting on a Zelda thread just because it's not pushing hyper realistic graphics, only on the other extreme.

wonderfulmonkeyman2971d ago

In what way?
How many games have we had, lately, that had amazing visuals but gameplay that could have been far better if the focus had been reversed?
I don't think I'm being a douche for saying that focusing in so much on graphics is harming more than helping.
There's nothing douchy about that unless the person listening is a very easily offended graphics fanatic.

With each new console generation we see games with better and better graphics, but I'd also like to see developers continue with innovations in gameplay, AI, physics, and creating interesting story and characters.

Uken122972d ago

Exactly. Graphics are always going to get better.

Bebedora2972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

I still miss the feel of perfection when you are controlling you character, no matter the game.

Always somewhere there is a bush, a corner or such blocking your vision when rotating and moving.
When doing those quick non-responsive taps of a button and/or a pad.

Those moments I lose that satisfaction of losing myself in the game. I think the devs could put more effort here, like I think Nintendo does(?).

Graphics are great! Don't spoil it all by puck up the controls.

dilbig52972d ago

Ehhh. I'd say only half of these could but probably won't.

ClayRules20122972d ago (Edited 2972d ago )

All look absolutely amazing in their own way. I can't wait for Star Wars BF2 online. Campaign will hopefully be well done. Anyways, I believe Sony's exclusives will deliver even more unparalleled visual "Eye bleeding" splendor.

Detroit is being made by QD, who've always pushed Sony's console ( PS3 - Heavy Rain & Beyond two Souls ) to the limit with stunning visual fidelity with both of those games. More so Beyond which really is still highly impressive looking today. It beats many next gen games out now with it's amazing lighting & really remarkable character models. Jodie Holmes/Ellen Paige looks extremely real. It helps that they create a brand new engine for every game. It's CRAZY. But really impressive to "in my opinion"

SSM has God of War PS4, which already looks stunning ( referring to last years E3 gameplay demo ) The detail on Kratos, the environments, his son, and the lighting are incredible. I can't wait to see other sections of the game, along with experiences that more personal story.

Naughty Dog - What's there to say? They continue to raise the bar for visuals etc... While Uncharted: Lost Legacy really looks amazing, with some things learned from U4's development, the real jaw dropper will be with The Last of Us Part 2. If I'm not mistaken, TLoU Part 2 is using an updated engine from U4, where's Lost Legacy is making some improvements, but it won't be the same level of quality as TLoU Part 2.

Insomniac has some really great with Spider-Man PS4. The trailer looks amazing, and I can't wait to see some gameplay, to see how fluid & just how well done the animations are.

Elda2972d ago

5 were PS4 games that without a doubt will be visually stunning!

Imalwaysright2972d ago

And yet the most visually appealing game to me won't be on the PS4. I don't know if its the vintage Disney cartoon nostalgia speaking to me but every time I see Cuphead it makes me smile.

Elda2972d ago

That's your opinion, imo Cuphead looks the least stunning in the visual dept knowing it looks like an very old cartoon.

deafdani2972d ago

Cuphead looks damn amazing, too bad I won't be able to play it for a while (don't have Xbox One / PC).

However, if Microsoft's past history with indie games is any indication (and third party exclusives for that matter), I'm betting this will be available for PS4 in a few years, or any other platform I actually have. I can wait.

Imalwaysright2972d ago

" it looks like an very old cartoon."

So the devs succeded on what they were trying to achieve.

Elda2972d ago

Doesn't make it visually appealing especially a cartoon.

Imalwaysright2972d ago

Well I guess you don't appreciate Disney's vintage cartoons aesthetic then but many people do. If you go watch videos from this game on youtube the comments sections are filled with comments praising the art style and the musical score of the game.

*Remaster
not Remake
People still confuse the terms in 2025.

CrimsonWing694d ago

It kills me that at this point they still can’t. Like when people complain that The Last of Us has too many Remasters… when they literally have 1 and then a PS5 Remake 🤦‍♂️

Lionsguard4d ago

Sure, in 15 years maybe. I'm playing it right now and it looks better than most games today.

mkis0074d ago

I think it's not too much to ask for a current gen native version, like we got for gta 5

Lionsguard4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

That's not really a remaster or a remake, it's a patch at most.

Rumour: Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 Version Is Real, Out This Year

The possibility of a PS5 version for Red Dead Redemption 2 just became a bit more realistic, as the very reliable leaker NateTheHate has claimed in his latest predictions podcast that a next-gen version of the Rockstar open worlder is in the works.

On the podcast, he said: "Those rumours are true. Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting a next-gen update and the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year." They go on to say that they were told the new versions will launch "a few months" after Switch 2's release, which is tomorrow. They then speculate a late summer / early fall launch window.

Please please please. My dualsense needs this game.

Aloymetal7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Yup, this game needs that sweet 60fps treatment. Can't wait I hope this is real.

andy857d ago

Be rude not to give it another play. Definitely won't be going for the platinum this time. That was hell 😂

lukasmain6d ago

Lol it was even harder at launch. It took me a very long time. Apparently I've heard they made it easier getting the gold medals for missions in some way. But at launch time it was a pain because after you finish the story and go back to play missions to get the medals, you lose all your perks and abilities, your dead eye level and guns everything etc. You just have the stock standard bare minimum with crap guns. If I had have known they were going to do that, I would have made sure I got gold medals when I was playing the story. But I got it in the end. Pretty sure the trophies would auto-pop on a PS5 version

Cacabunga6d ago

Yes you are right.. you equipment from the main game carried on when you go for gold medals which is always something!
Also the fact you don’t need to get gold on every mission is the big thing.

Still a massive plat and one of the few I am very happy to possess

jznrpg7d ago

Nice! I’ll add it to my collection

aaronlif107d ago

I sincerely hope we finally get a next gen update to this game. It is long overdue. I'd love to see ray tracing and enhanced lighting get added. Perhaps more npc's or animals, ect.
