Wildlands Reclaims Top Spot in UK Sales Chart Standings as Persona 5 Drops Out of Top 40 Entirely

Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands has reclaimed the No.1 in the latest UK video game sales chart standings, making it 3 weeks at the top spot for the shooter and a total of five weeks so far this year for publisher following the release of For Honor.

Ghost will be selling long after most of those highly rated games are forgotten. The game is one of the most fun co-op experiences on the market. It will continue to sell well into next year.
Media hype may push 1st week sales, but good games sell by gamers convincing other gamers. Much more valuable and reliable than some reviewers who's motives are questionable.

Really enjoyed Ghost Recon Wildlands.

Obviously a game like Ghost Recon is a lot more mainstream than Persona 5, and therefor has a wider appeal. Quality has nothing to do with it (not saying GR is bad but that's another discussion).

Bigpappy2169d ago

The point was not an attack on Persona5, rather a defense of GRW. It got a lot of negative press, yet it is doing very well. Some will like to tell us that good games get high scores on meta. I say good games get enjoyed by gamers.

Persona 5 is sold out across the UK.

It's the best coop experience I've had in a long long long time.

Persona 5 is sold out in the UK, try again.

@Bigpappy

Ghost may well be a fun co-op experience and therefore continue to sell well but most gamers who have played Persona 5 will agree with me that it is not only a good game but, in fact, a great game! It may not tickle the fancy of some or even most UK gamers but but its high review scores have nothing to do with hype but more with the fact that it is one of the most fun, stylish and exciting games to come along this year.

There are many Japanese games that are excellent but do not sell well in the UK. This says more about gamers in the UK, in my opinion. Persona 5 has actually sold out across many places in the UK and many gamers are finding it hard to source it. Not every game that falls out of the charts so soon after release is because it is oveh-hyped or does not benefit from word-of-mouth. Persona 5 gamere have been saying how good it is - but gamers have to be able to buy it!

Eonjay2168d ago (Edited 2168d ago )

Gamer reception has been stronger than mediahype on P5. Will you acknowledge how full of crap your comment was? And if you already knew P5 was sold out it was an attack (I'm kidding I know you aren't that bad... you just didn't know)... but seriously its not really possible for a drop off that big unless there is none left...

Bigpappy2168d ago (Edited 2168d ago )

it really not about Persona. I have never played the game. Made be truly great. May not.
What I can say is when people have fun with a game it keeps selling as others will gravitate to it.

It seems Japanese culture in general is not as popular in the UK as it is in the States.

Got to disagree with you here. Japanese games sell pretty well in the UK. Am taking noting away from Ghost Recon it's a decent co-op game. But if the UK actually had stock of Persona 5 it would be top spot. Here in the UK I think Persona had some what of a soft launch. All you could buy here in the UK was a day one edition which was expensive and the limited edition which pretty much sold out before it even came out.

The standard edition does not release in the UK until the 8th May. This is when I hope to get a copy.

"But if the UK actually had stock of Persona 5 it would be top spot"

I don't know about that.

I own persona 5 day 1 on PS4, don't have any plans to buy Ghost, but I don't see much proving that such a JRPG would outsell a co-op MP shooter like Ghost Recon.

Ghost moved like 1.6 million units in mere days.

I don't know if it has to do with being sold out, I just don't think Persona 5 is or would outsell Ghost Recon.

littlezizu2169d ago

All 100% of retail copy sold out for persona 5. Atlus and sega underestimated Demand and promises more stock soon. Hopefully by end of month they can restock.

theshredded2169d ago

It's hard to find a copy here in my country which might explain why.

TheColbertinator2169d ago

I have both and P5 is on another level compared to GRW. One goes for excellence, the other is a Ubisoft game.

ocelot072169d ago

Standard edition of Persona 5 doesn't even come out until the 8th May in the UK. I finally decided to buy a copy last week only to find it's out of stock everywhere and people wanting £100+ on it for ebay.

Razzer2169d ago

Oh....Standard edition isn't even out in UK yet? lol....Key piece of info there. Thanks.
