Could Square Enix Release Kingdom Hearts 3 on Nintendo Switch?

The Nintendo Switch is obviously on the minds of a lot of gamers and game developers right now, being the newest system on the block, and given its unique hardware and its blend of console gaming and handheld gaming, game developers are understandably interested in trying to use its functionalities to their benefit. One such developer is Square Enix, who haven’t been shy in stating that they will be supporting the Switch to the best of their abilities.

Actually Square enix said they plan on bringing their games to Switch and apparently there is 20 Japanese games in development using UE4. Go figure, Kingdom hearts 3 is coming to Switch. And it will be a decent looking version it won't have to be scaled back that much at all. Switch can competently run UE4.

I don't really care if it does but if the PS4 and Xbone users have to wait much longer just so the development of Switch version can catch up, then that's messed up! they have remastered the old games TWICE now and even the "vaporware" FFvsXIII was already released now as FFXV and yet no news or new footage of KH3 which had a showing back in 2013 aside from a brief one at Jump Fiesta last year! how much longer is the wait for this?

Hypothetically speaking? Yes, Square-Enix could carry Kingdom Hearts III to the Switch, just as she could carry any other game in their catalog.

But in practice, I imagine it to be somewhat more complicated, primarily because it seems that the agreements with Disney are quite specific on platforms and versions. And second, because despite running on Unreal 4, it would need to be well-optimized to run decently on the console, which would result in a big loss of visual fidelity, something the company might try to avoid.

snake pass work well on unreal 4 so I highly doubt that be the issue.......I see things going down in one or two ways........square waiting to see if to bring it or not and they will debate it on some of their sales on the Switch........if dragon quest on Switch outsell ps4, then no doubt they bringing it

If you look at it from a power perspective, PS4 and Xbox One make sense. From a history perspective, PS4 and Switch make sense.

Either way...PS4 makes sense.

I think they should release it on Switch. I mean, if it's on Xbox One, I say why not. Won't look as good on Switch, but it won't be as stationary either. Given the time we've waited for it, everyone should get a chance to finish the story. Console tastes change with time. Probably the best course of action.

So long as it has attractive sales then I believe it will happen. But, it may not happen at the same time as the original platforms. It would be awesome to finally have Sora in Smash Bros. and to have Amiibo functionality for Kingdom Hearts. If they have a Switch release then I think they need a limited edition KH console with an Amiibo included. The Switch logo on the front of the dock would look awesome with a heart or heartless on it.

Imagine KH having platform specific areas, the same way Soul Calibur used to have platform specific characters. Basically, a Mario, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Xenoblade, or Zelda level for Switch. A LittleBIGPlanet, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, or Ico(SotC/Last Guardian). This could always be added as free DLC down the line to pick sales back up again.

The Wii also had a different control scheme, requiring add-ons to play it the same way, and was severely under-powered to even have the same gameplay fidelity. Now they have enough power to offer nearly the same gameplay, with lesser graphics, but also featuring the perk of portability.The Wii couldn't handle those games. It was a generation behind in hardware capabilities to even steadily handle the game engines with graphics turned down.

I recommend seeing both positives and negatives. Tesla isn't successful because they listened to the negativity following fully electric vehicles and past market failures. The Wii U was powerful enough for the games you mentioned. It didn't get them, or even a GTA V port. It's because of its sales, attach rate, and development difficulties. Switch may be new, but it's a seemingly more solid future and more friendly to develop for.

Wii U being more powerful then Wii doesn't mean its getting FFXV bud, not sure how Switch being more powerful then Wii U suddenly nets it future titles. Nothing to do with being more powerful then Wii or Wii U, it NEEDS TO MEET OR BEAT PS4 and XONE IN SPECS.

I don't get why you brought FFXV into this. You listed FXIII. Be consistent.

If Switch sells enough, when it's about as capable as a PS3, of course it will get more third party titles that prioritize those experiences.

If you read, you can't just assume everyone will be using extra peripherals for their console. Wii having motion controls as a main and included device is another factor deterring development of serious titles.

I don't think you know about diminishing returns. We are already near the point where gameplay won't be affected by weaker hardware, just the graphics. Game engines are not as polarizing in depth and complexity as they were from PS2 to PS3. More advanced, yes. But, the hardware is far more capable. It can run these games now. The graphics are the only thing to be adjusted. If Switch does continue to sell then of course more 3rd party AAA titles will come its way. It's called common sense and business.

@sin-Final Fantasy XIII was reference because it never appeared on the Wii which sold 100 million, just like Final Fantasy 15 will not randomly appear on the switch if it begins to sell the reason that they don't appear on those platforms it's cuz they're too weak and they were created to be made on a specific Hardware type.

It is too weak it will cost too much money and they did not create those games to be made on such lesser Hardware if that was the case you would have saw some of those games running on PlayStation 3 and 360.

You mentioned FF13 initially. Not FF15. So, you can't act like I'm arguing against FF15 having hardware limitations. But, FF13 would not have massive graphics overhaul to run on the Switch. The Switch is more powerful than the Wii U. And, on top of everything.. the biggest technical limitation of PS3 and 360 was the amount of RAM. The Switch has 4GB's of RAM. I'm not saying that the graphical showcase games coming out on PS4 and XBox One are heading to the Switch. But, less factors are in the way now.

You literally listed three games right off the bat that can run on the Wii U and the Switch. The ONLY reason those games never launched on Wii U is because it's sales suck and it launched way after two of them came out. Capcom specifically said they weren't going to release their previous titles on the Wii U. The older titles already hit the market. It's not like most gamers were thinking "Oh, I'm gonna wait till Nintendo release a new console to pick this up!". The sales were not good for Wii U, on top of the fact these games were already out on other platforms for years.

As I previously mentioned. The Wii is only on the PS2's level of hardware and can not handle the complexity of the gameplay for most PS3/360 games even after graphics overhaul, but we are way past the original Wii. So, completely disregard the original Wii. The Wii U was stronger than the PS3 but simply didn't get 3rd parties because the sales were so low. Nintendo also didn't have good communication and tools for developers. This is proven by over a dozen AAA multiplatform games releasing on PS3 and 360 but not on the Wii U in the same time period.

If the Switch sales keep strong then it would be stupid not to release KH3 on the Switch. The hardware IS capable of handling the game engine. It just needs the graphics turned down to run it. KH3 runs on Unreal Engine, which Switch is very capable of handling. It has over 20 games coming that use Unreal Engine, and the NVidia hardware inside has been tediously designed and had drivers optimized for years of development with Unreal Engine in mind. KH has a big following on Nintendo platforms. They just haven't had a main entry in the series on their console yet. And, you seem to think KH3 is a graphical powerhouse. It looks nice, but it is not anything to brag about like FF15 was. Because it's already running on UE, a port would be much easier, and literally sales are the only factor at play here to deter its release on the platform.

I say again. Wii could not handle the instructions for complex game engines. That alone deterred any hopes of modern games running on the hardware, despite its attractive sales. Wii U could handle more than the PS3, but the sales simply sucked. The Switch sales are looking better so far, but have a ways to go. The hardware is more powerful than the Wii U, and it is very good at running Unreal Engine, which KH3 uses.

I mean...that goes to show you EVEN MORE that hardware is very important. XONE is getting a game from a series it has never gotten. So if you can see that, i'm pretty sure so can Square. They have great reason why they are doing this vs Switch or Wii or Wii U etc. Clearly they know something we don't regarding the cost to bring KH3 to something lessor. To choose XONE goes to show you what that cost could likely be.

XONE is worth it before Wii U or Switch to them in terms of power vs profits. That cost just may not be worth it to them.

Even if Xbox One saw an attach rate of 10% it'd still be a higher number than what Switch would move with a 100% attach rate.

Xbox One has moved over 29 million units since launch. Switch has 2.1 million out there now.
10% of 29 million represents 2.9 million.
100% of 2.1 million represents 2.1 million.

In other words Xbox One could move a tenth of what Switch does but still be more successful in sales. It'd also represent more fans.

I don't see it happening for Switch as FFXV confirmed to not happen on Switch and most of Square's games shown have been PS3 or PSVita games etc. Low level games, I don't think something coming to PS4 and XONE solely is making it on Switch.

If they had wanted such a thing to happen......they had many options and choose not to do any thing. I mean...consider they could have launched Switch with KH Collection of they wanted too.

Just odd that they haven't released 2.8 + 1.5 & 2.5 Remix's on a platform that has never really traditionally had Kingdom Hearts games... seems like there setting it up to fail on Xbox by not getting people caught up with the story by the time Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out.

And I was just saying I could see the game releasing on the Switch cause Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts Coded released on the DS and Dream Drop Distance on 3DS etc. So I could see it getting announced for Switch especially with it's early success. Not saying it will... just that I could see it getting an Switch release.

KH3 might even be a next game for all we know considering how much we've seen since 2013. 4 years since E3 2013 and, 7 years since Birth by Sleep on PSP and a 12 years since KH2! crazy how people still wanting this game all these years and SE is so blindingly stupid to ignore this kind of demand!
