Looking at the total sales of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U in the US in February 2017 shows how close the race between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One really is. The gap between the two has grown for four straight months in favor of the PlayStation 4.
The PlayStation 4 crossed the 18 million mark. The PlayStation 4 has sold 18.21 million units lifetime in the US, the Xbox One 16.33 million units, and the Wii U 5.68 million units.

WII U has been dead for along time.
That's why the switch came out.
If Nintendo would have stuck to the original Wii format.
Better Motion controls, and a much higher graphical quality and kept the price decent. They would have done well. But instead they brought out the Wii u, although it's graphics in games is actually good for the look going for it.
