Mario Kart 8 Deluxe file size

Mario Kart 8 was 4.9GB on Wii U. For the Switch version, it’s looking like the racer will be a bit bigger.

Resolution takes no space, it's basically just a line of code.

Rosulotion bump takes littile space as example HZD hdr and 4k support along with fixing issues was a 500 mb patch.

Yeah, when you patch something in, you have to replace the entire file your changing with a new one. So if you're fixing bugs and issues you have to replace all the related files. That's why patches can be so big sometimes. Like the 18GB patch for The Witcher 3. But resolution itself doesn't add any extra space. It's code. The resolution means nothing until the game actually renders.

So with that Horizon patch, the 500 mb would mostly be the bug fixes and HDR support.

On Steam devs can actually issue "patches" that just edit the original file. So if a dev just needed to fix 1 line, they could issue like a 1 kb patch to change the code in that file. Not every dev uses it though.

A 13 MP photo takes a much larger space than a say a 2 MP one.

Also downloaded file sizes of YouTube video in 1080p is about ten times smaller if you download at 480p.

Dude. Games render in real time. The image being displayed on your screen does not exist until you load up the game and start playing. If you render a game in 1080p, or 4K, the files on the hard drive are still the same size. A video is totally different because it's prerendered, so the resolution and detail will affect the size of the video file.
