Ghost Recon: Wildlands is a Jingoist Nightmare

Jasmine Henry writes: "While I don’t expect the average Wildlands player to actively do something about those Bolivians, it’s just another drop in the festering bucket of propagandist rot. It’s the same rot that already makes people genuinely believe in American exceptionalism. It’s also why some will fail to think of the serious implications of wading into a country with a gun and killing every single criminal dead. And yes, even if the player takes the quiet approach it still counts."

Bang bang! Can't imagine folks would be happy if there was a game about Bolivians coming to the US and shooting the place up.

Bigpappy3012d ago (Edited 3012d ago )

Fallout 3 was about China nuking the U.S. This game is about liberating Bolivia after it was overran by gangs. You actually work with the local rebels.

smolinsk3012d ago

It's a game for playing with you know 😉

Nice avatar Stalin, anything else you and your leftist friends over at newSJW want to let us in on?

JEECE3012d ago

Yeah, there was so much outcry when Homefront came out, a game about North Koreans taking over the US. I also remember how upset everyone was about MGS: Peace Walker because you fought for the left-wing, Soviet-backed Sandinistas against the CIA.

Wow, talk about losing brain cells after reading that. Learn to proof read first off. Second, you are taking this game waaaay too literally. How many Americans flipped out when Homefront portrays America as a place North Korea invades with little to no resistance? How about Grand Theft Auto making fun of basically everything we do in America? Find another profession, please. Leave gaming to gamers who enjoy FICTIONAL stories. Fiction being the key word....holy hell....

Bathyj3012d ago

Might be reading too much into this. It's a game. And it's made by the French, not Americans.

annoyedgamer3012d ago (Edited 3012d ago )

Ban this website already, nothing they write is ever game news, it is 100% politics.

Unoriginalplayer3012d ago

That's what it seems. We really do not need any more of these "gaming sites" popping up trying to push political ideals. We already have enough garbage that makes gamers look bad. How did this "article" even get approved???

annoyedgamer3012d ago

It hangs out in pending for a few days until the threshold for approval drops to 3 then somebody goes in and cleans it up by approving stuff. Not to bag on the approvers, a shocking few contriutors actually read that they approve, they just click and move on.

TWB3012d ago

Nevermind the site, there in general seems to be way much more politically charged articles coming from multiple sources lately.

annoyedgamer3012d ago

Well that's because other sites also do the political strut. The difference is those sites still post legitimate game news to sidestep N4G's rules.

This website is the equivalent of feminist frequency posting a weekly op-ed on whats offensive and whadayaknow, they are banned from N4G.

cyclindk3012d ago (Edited 3012d ago )

What a Holyoake article...

I dont' actually have a negative opinion of the article, but what does GTA make people believe about, I think she means the United States as all inhabitants of the Americas are Americans, boo yah.

Can't a game just be a game?

Don't play MONOPOLY anybody!

It'd be different if there were propaganda news stations and politicians praising the accuracy of these games with regard to their subject matter....

And as crappy as CoD games have become, there's always all sorts of coordination with other countries' armed forces.

Proof-read:

"the suggestion that all Mexicans are drug dealers or rapists" ARE rapists, yes?

And I am sorry, but these types of games are essentially gun-porn, you wouldn't go watch pornography and try to take the plot and themes seriously would you? Both of these forms of "entertainment" have a solitary aspect of the human psyche to satisfy, pleasure centers of the brain. Nothing else.

Gamepass has changed everything. Phil, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for Gamepass. I just bought 50 years worth of subscription and I'm so happy.

CBaoth965d ago

Riiight! Thanks to GP I've discovered hundreds of indie fillers I would've never known about otherwise. Best part: team Xbox has discovered how great walking sims and interactive movies really are! And EA Play? Love me some 4 year old sports games!! Why sub up though? Just let MS auto renew that incredible $14.99 a month value. It's so easy!!

JBplusVB965d ago

Gamepass is just so amazing. Adding EA play to it brought the service to a whole nother level. Phil Spencer has the brightest mind in gaming. By far.....
