PS4 And Xbox One Are Both Badly Losing The Exclusive War

Something interesting started to happen in 2016. The exclusive "war" between PS4 and Xbox One took a sharp turn: Sony's console had always toyed with an edge over Microsoft, but at a certain point that edge started to cut. Uncharted 4 seemed to kick things off, but it's here in 2017 that Sony's lead has become insurmountable. The PS4 has Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gravity Rush 2 and Nier: Automata, all right in a row, with no real answer from the competition. Microsoft seems only to founder, with delayed or canceled projects and follow-ups that fail to match the glory of their predecessors. An interesting phenomenon, good news for Sony, and ultimately a totally pointless comparison. Neither of these platforms has the most, or the best, exclusives, not by a mile.

Forbes just wants to redefine the war to make their article, while ignoring what it is people are fighting about.

It's like this. The Wii completely abolished the PS3 and 360 last gen when it came to exclusive console games. No one cared, even Wii owners, because no one wanted to play most of those games, and no gamer in a hardcore forum would discuss them to make an argument about how awesome the Wii was. Instead, they'd use the actual good games the Wii had to make their argument, just like we see them doing now with Switch, even though Switch hasn't even released more than a couple of their exclusives.

This article is about PC having the biggest exclusives market, not about which console has more. You're kind of off topic by focusing solely on consoles, and you're forgetting one huge detail in the process...

UWP can leverage the PC market to easily bring its' exclusives over to the Xbox. People tend to lose focus on MS and its' Play Anywhere initiative. UWP is a two way street, putting Xbox onto PC and PC onto Xbox. If Xbox can leverage the PC games industry it could have a huge impact on Xbox as a brand.

MS says they're putting all of their focus onto 1st party right now, since they already focused on HW and OS changes. PS already has lots of 1st party studios AND lots of Japanese 3rd party exclusives, but MS will have more 1st party focus now (according to Phil) and could have lots of Western 3rd party exclusives if they play their UWP cards right. If, and I know it's a big if, MS does start to invest in 1st party as they contend, the playing field of console exclusives could become much more competitive over the next few years.

The exclusive war never included the PC though. PC has 40 odd years of games to build that category, and has no licensing fees, so can easily get plenty of games. I mean, why don't we say that mobile has the most exclusives? It actually dwarfs PC releases and hasn't been around as long.

We don't, because the exclusive war is between consoles. Even console gamers can accept that PC gets more games, and only the most delusional would say that it doesn't have more exclusives. Quality is subjective, and typically, never really mattered, because console gamers don't usually consider PC in their war.

Only reason i use my pc more i cus i have a mew vid card n its the only 1 of the 3 that plays 4k. Xbox has no exclusives as they are also on PC. With PlayAnywhere you can buy an Xbox One, a Scorpio, or your very own pc and play the same MS 1st party games. As with Sony, most PS4 exclusives are timed exclusive. PSNow offering PS4 games you can stream them anytime, anywhere, on a wide array of devices. With time more ps4 exclusives will become available on non PS4 platforms.

For MS and Sony, both have their share of great and bad games. MS has FH3, GeoW4, Sony has HZD and Nioh. The war on exclusives is just a war that will never end, nobody wins. Even by numbers of games worth playing, it is still down to opinion. Many console gamers only buy GTA, CoD and Sports.

You could add browser games, flash games, pre installed games, etc to the PC. You could add the vast amounts of tablet and mobile phone games that you could play after installing an android emulator like blue stacks or something like that.

Having said that, as a console gamer, I applaud the amount but don't care. As PC isn't a console and the vast majority of games are shovelware not important of my time.

Exclusives are about selling your product. PC is a general product. A console is a specific product. The majority of consumers buy a general PC for business and productivity. The majority of consumers buy a console for exclusive games you can't play anywhere else excluding emulation. And for a certain level of quality and ease of use.

Both are good for what they do. But PCs are not a good solution for a console gamer's needs. Because the exclusives we like aren't on PC. Emulation doesn't count or streaming some but not the latest releases where you will never own it in lower quality doesn't either.

you keep ignoring that the pc is the best platform because of its flexibility and uses, so again this is why it makes sense to simply want all games to be on it. we all know that's not possible but for some reason you take it personally when someone requests it because you are a console warrior. the irony lost on your statements is how much effort you try and bring down competiting console exclusives (no point in blurring the lines, it's the xbox) which we all know you wouldn't be doing as much if they were on your preferred system.

I know you're too ignorant to care, but I've lost count of the number of PC gamers that beg for first-party Sony games on PC and have done for years on YouTube comments sections, Twitter et al. They're only partially getting their wish with a scant few first-party games streaming via the PS Now service, but even then their hypocrisy sticks out like a sore thumb by accepting to settle for vastly lower resolution, poorer image quality due to compression and supposedly inferior input mechanism (including lag) and a lack of choices they get with these particular games.

In the console sphere it certainly still counts. The PS4 is outselling the XBO by the millions because of it. And Nintendo Switch has sold over 1,5 millions machines in the first week and where around 89% also bought Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

All the big AAA games are on consoles. And the biggest and best Indie games finds its way there faster and faster. The PC has some great exclusive games. But my opinion is that nothing compares to some of the incredible PlayStation exclusive games. With the latest Horizon Zero Dawn lifting the bar for a open world game regardless og system. Especially on a PS4Pro connected to a 4K HDR TV. HDR being something Nvidia have bragged about a while but not a handfull of games supporting it on PC...

this is a prime example of what happens on the pc. you get games like this that snowball and can be created on the pc with actual servers, none of that peer to peer stuff you guys are willing to pay a premium for. this game is hugely popular already on twitch.

there is so much content coming out on the pc that it's hard to keep track, which is a problem in itself because a lot of good games could get unnoticed. but to act like every once in awhile a big title like horizon and zelda can trump that is hilarious. that's called marketing and you guys get sucked into it year after year while you make thousands of comments online during e3 and tell everyone how great your system is while downplaying the competition like you are rooting for your sports team. if you want real esports then come to the pc.

The reason I chose to buy a high end PC instead of a mid ranged PC and a PS4 is simply because I wanted to play the PC exclusives and am also into a lot of CSGO. I give so much time to CSGO, I generally don't get time left for other games. I am off of my CSGO crack atm because Nier Automata is proving the game that I simply love. But as soon as it's over, I will go back to CSGO and maybe some Overwatch and some older games......

Actually, if PS Now had an option of actually downloading the game to your hard drive for the duration of the gameplay you would have a much better service that would not be bound to streaming which in turn is limited by the performance of your network.

This is not to say get rid of streaming for PS Now since the service is not just for the PS3, PS4 and the PC but for smart devices such as TV's and phones which would have limited if any storage for download.

I get the point, PC has a lot of games, but if we look at the games with the most relevence, the big, triple A titles that people want to be playing? Let's take a look at this last couple of months.

Yakuza Zero, Gravity Rush 2, Horizon, Breath of the Wild, Nioh, Mass Effect. Resident Evil.

3 of those titles are on PC, 6 of them are on PS4, and 2 of them are on XBOX ONE and 1 is on the Switch.

In 2016, if you look at the top 10 games scored on metacritic, the only PC exclusive is Out of the Park Baseball, a baseball sim with a rather small audience. The only console exclusive in the top 10 is Uncharted 4. One of those games is owned by 30,000 people, the other, closing in on 10 million.

PC lacks these influential heavy hitters and it makes sense, because that's why these console manufacturers produce them. They need to keep their hardware relevant, but whichever way you spin it, it works. I'm not going to give up on console gaming and play only on PC when I'd be missing out on high end experiences that console manufacturers often provide. The incentive to shovel 100 million dollars into a games development, largely isn't there for the PC market alone.

Every gamer knows that Sony is KILLING Microsoft every which way with exclusives and has a formidable lineup for the next two years which is unassailable unless Microsoft suddenly decided to invests heavily in its own exclusives and brand new IPs and rushes some games for release. God of War, Spiderman and FF7 Remake alone will ensure that PS4 Pro sells millions. Even a title like Yakuza which was always looked down on by Xbox fans as 'niche' has sold by the bucketload this year with Yakuza 0 and games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, NiOh, Nier Automata and Resident Evil on the PSVR ensuring that this will be Sony's year and it isn't even April yet! No contest...

If Forbes reports on economic issues like it does on gaming, do exactly the opposite of what Forbes suggests, you will probably make a lot more and certainly lose a lot less.

Games like Nier:Automata and Nioh could end up on Xbox One eventually. Chances are those games are just timed exclusives and with the success of them on PS4, I could definitely see the developers bringing those games to Xbox One in the future.

Or chances are they won't, because the developers of those games (who happen to be from Japan) don't see the One as a viable platform since hardly anyone in their home market owns one and barely any XBox One owners overseas care about Japanese-made games enough to make them worth the trouble of porting them over.

Want to explain why Nier Automata, Kingdom Hearts 2.8, FF X/X-2, FF XIV, Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5, Dragonquest Heroes 1 and 2, Dragonquest X and XI, FF XII, FF VII, Star Ocean, World Of Final Fantasy, I am Setsuna all skipped Xbox One?!

FF XV was announced when Xbox One was coming out because they thought it was going to dominate in the U.S. along with Kingdom Hearts 3. Type 0 did miserably and FF XV has done pretty poorly as well.

It's pretty apparent by how many of the games listed have skipped Xbox One that you got to see it's wishful thinking. NONE of the major releases recently have been announced or ported to Xbox One at this point and they won't till somehow it becomes profitable to do so.

First of all, it's not very likely because Nioh is published by Sony and the creator NieR has expressed a lack of interest in bringing it to Xbox. You say eventually, but that word says to me: "far too past the point in which anyone gaming only on Xbox will actually care about it once the current fan hype surrounding the game has died down and PS4 (and PC) owners have moved on to the next great game".

At this point, I've absolutely no idea why Kingdom Hearts III on Xbone is still a thing, aside from maybe not to sour Xbox fans who might actually buy the game, even though if you're a Kingdom Hearts fan, you would already own a PS4. FFXV is about as big as it gets for Japanese games on Xbox, and Square don't really have any bigger Japanese games than that, period.

Do people understand that console only gamers simply dont care about PC? Thats not a knock on PC. Im sure there are plenty of games, and with better graphics, and mods, and free online, and blah and blah and blah.

Thats great for PC gamers, I am happy for them. In fact I like PC gamers because although they are smug and act superior, they dont try to tell me Playstation is $h*t as much as Xbox gamers do so Im fine with them.

But, I just dont care. I play on console because I just do. I wont say my reasons, it doesnt matter, they are my own. But I just do. And because of that I focus on what I care about, which is consoles. And while you can play many of the games I like on PC, you cant play them all, and if I could only have one platform, it would be the one I have.

So I dont need this clickbait troll piece trying to further divide us gamers. Nor do I need to proclaim my platform is better than yours like many here. Its better for me. Thats all I care about. Not a lot of pc games I want to play these days. There are a few I buy but not many, not into mobas or shooters or MMOs anymore. There are a few rpgs I like that dont make it to console but not many like the old days with Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale , Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind , and such .That is why I game on PS4 and vita instead, tons of rpgs (my favorite genre )and other cool games like Uncharted , The Last Guardian, TLOU, etc etc. PC may have more overall games but not more of what I want to play.

Xbox has Halo, Gears of War, and Forza. Halo is what going on it's 16th yr and the sales arnt as good as they use to be. We're in like the 5th or 6th gears of war it's not as popular as it used to be. And Forza who gives a shit. I personally still think the PS4 is winning in terms of exclusives this year compared to XBO. The only XBO exclusives I'm interested is Patch of Exile, that chinese candle game, Cuphead and maybe Sea of Thieves (but considering it is made by Rare, I have low expectations). Meanwhile, the PS4 got Horizon, Nioh, Night in the Woods, Yakuza, Gravity Rush 2, Danganronpa, Toukiden 2, Everything, Kindom Hearts, Nier, Berseria, and a few underrated games like Berserk, Next Order, Genso Wanderer, Disc Jam, Atelier Firis, Malicious, etc. And soon more to come such as Persona 5, God Wars, Parrapa HD, Wipeout, The Silver Case, Dragon Quest Heroes 2 and others, even if there are a few exceptions like SAOxAW, Touhou Kobuto 5, Dying Reborn, Double Dragon 4, Skyride, Divide, Unearthing Mars, and such.

PC has always had the most games, as a function of ease of development and relative lack of licensing red tape. A huge portion of it is is shovelware and general crap, though. And much of it is, while great, niche stuff. Bottom line here is the author isn't making a new or interesting point. He's pointing out something everyone has always taken for granted. It has no bearing on the console wars.
