PS4 And Xbox One Are Both Badly Losing The Exclusive War

Something interesting started to happen in 2016. The exclusive "war" between PS4 and Xbox One took a sharp turn: Sony's console had always toyed with an edge over Microsoft, but at a certain point that edge started to cut. Uncharted 4 seemed to kick things off, but it's here in 2017 that Sony's lead has become insurmountable. The PS4 has Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gravity Rush 2 and Nier: Automata, all right in a row, with no real answer from the competition. Microsoft seems only to founder, with delayed or canceled projects and follow-ups that fail to match the glory of their predecessors. An interesting phenomenon, good news for Sony, and ultimately a totally pointless comparison. Neither of these platforms has the most, or the best, exclusives, not by a mile.

AspiringProGenji3003d ago

PS4 is beating the Xbox One in both quality and quantity, like it or not Forbes. Besides the PS4 has Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, and Horizon as best exclusives. Xbox One has its share too but PS4's so far have stood out more

MVGeneral3003d ago

"The PC receives a veritable tidal wave of games -- many of them terrible, to be sure -- that no other platform will ever receive."

They are talking about indie games. And not good ones anyway. And they aren't talking about good exclusives, just exclusives.

blitz06233001d ago

It's classic Forbes refusing to give credit where it's due

Deep-throat3001d ago

"Good exclusives"... that's subjective.

I thoroughly enjoyed indie games on PC more than AAA exclusives like Uncharted 4 and The Order, they were average at best gameplay wise. And the PS4 didn't have a glowing library of excluisves before 2017.

ShadowKnight3001d ago (Edited 3001d ago )

@Deepthroat

No one believes nothing you say anymore because of your comment history. You put it on yourself

Babadook73001d ago

Pc is losing bad in the "quality" exclusives game.

Why o why3001d ago

Lol. N4g needs to bring that 'ignore' option back.

The exclusive conversation isn't a war in regards to consoles, it's a massacre

nX3001d ago

Wow seeing this comment section I just can't believe there are still people trying to downplay the PS4's library. Even back in 2014 it was stupid to say that "the PS4 has no games" but at this point it's just insane to think that anyone would take you seriously with that opinion.

Unspoken3001d ago

He's right about everything on PC though.

"Undertale, Kentucky Route Zero and Owlboy..." just too name a few quality indies.

Not only number of titles but specific titles exclusive to PC that are played in eSports world wide such as MOBAs, specific genres that play better on PC ie MMOs and strategy games.

He also talk's about the longevity of games through legacy support and through extensive mod's made by the PC community.

Then he goes on to talk about the actual experience being better on PC with higher resolution and faster frames.

But wait, it's Forbes and not a pro Pro article.

mikeslemonade3001d ago

PS4 at this rate has more exclusives than PS3 and PS4 is a better system overall than PS3.

JackBNimble3001d ago

So why do we continuely get these indie games on consoles that originated on pc?
I would expect many more exclusive pc indie titles to cross over to consoles in the future.
Mine craft and many more say hi

_-EDMIX-_3001d ago

😂😂😂 28514;

We might as well say IOS and Android always get the most games.

morganfell3001d ago

And news of Bloodborne 2 just leaked...

bluefox7553001d ago

Exactly, PC has a sh*t ton of indies, and if any of them ever rise above the level of terrible, they are often ported over to consoles.

Mr Pumblechook3001d ago (Edited 3001d ago )

Most established websites and blogs have written articles on how PlayStation has had an amazing start to 2017 because of all its exclusives and the Forbes blogger is trying to pretend it's not happening! Whatever your favourite flavour of console you cannot deny the exclusives on PS4, so for this Forbes writer to say otherwise demonstrates that he is either a troll, or worse, not able to honestly understand and appraise the state of the video game business. Dave Thier has seriously damaged any credibility he had.

BIGBOSS083001d ago

@Deep-throat

Are you talking about that imaginery invisible ps4 you have?

morganfell3001d ago

There are two reasons individuals assemble insipid articles like these. Delusion. An agenda. Then again, perhaps there is a third reason that suits this article, a delusional agenda.

IamTylerDurden13001d ago

Exactly, last i checked you can't play Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Horizon, Nioh, Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0, Ratchet & Clank, and Resogun on PC. These are among the best exclusives this gen.

NewMonday3000d ago

PC port begging for Playstation exclusives

nuff said!

rainslacker3000d ago

That's fair except the exclusive war has always been about the high profile, or mid-tier titles that people actually talk about.

Forbes just wants to redefine the war to make their article, while ignoring what it is people are fighting about.

It's like this. The Wii completely abolished the PS3 and 360 last gen when it came to exclusive console games. No one cared, even Wii owners, because no one wanted to play most of those games, and no gamer in a hardcore forum would discuss them to make an argument about how awesome the Wii was. Instead, they'd use the actual good games the Wii had to make their argument, just like we see them doing now with Switch, even though Switch hasn't even released more than a couple of their exclusives.

frostypants3000d ago (Edited 3000d ago )

@blitz0623, don't credit this to Forbes. This is just some random schlub publishing via Forbes content platform/network. None of these quacks actually work for Forbes. These are glorified private bloggers.

The author trying to put both PS4 and - the 99% multiplatform box- on the same plane in terms of exclusive games is the funniest part of this article.

Even factoring in pure PC numbers, PS4 is visibly a league beyond.

Why o why3001d ago

Grouping. . . These two consoles are not on par for releases or ethos.

naruga3001d ago (Edited 3001d ago )

WTF happens with this idiotic site?? ..its an economy focused site and still keeps writing sht about PS4 ...we know that somehow they have ties with MS but the same is happening wth Eurogamer and other sites though are not so fing ridiculous (as they want to be called serious sites).... brashingly supporting PC/Xbox out in open ...i bet when the Scorpio will be released will b e the most fanatics with titles "Scorpios is Killing PS4 with its exclusives, Scorpio is slaughterig PS4 , is Fing PS4 etcetc" ...wait and see

frostypants3000d ago (Edited 3000d ago )

@naruga, this is the Forbes contributor network. Just about any idiot can get signed up. It's not "real" Forbes. It's their only-a-little-bit-selective blogging platform.

YAO-BLING3001d ago

typical forbes.. just stick to the other crappy news you produce out on the daily hour.

nitus103001d ago

Did not read the article since Forbes always insist I turn off my add blocker.

This article is about PC having the biggest exclusives market, not about which console has more. You're kind of off topic by focusing solely on consoles, and you're forgetting one huge detail in the process...

UWP can leverage the PC market to easily bring its' exclusives over to the Xbox. People tend to lose focus on MS and its' Play Anywhere initiative. UWP is a two way street, putting Xbox onto PC and PC onto Xbox. If Xbox can leverage the PC games industry it could have a huge impact on Xbox as a brand.

MS says they're putting all of their focus onto 1st party right now, since they already focused on HW and OS changes. PS already has lots of 1st party studios AND lots of Japanese 3rd party exclusives, but MS will have more 1st party focus now (according to Phil) and could have lots of Western 3rd party exclusives if they play their UWP cards right. If, and I know it's a big if, MS does start to invest in 1st party as they contend, the playing field of console exclusives could become much more competitive over the next few years.

Chevalier3001d ago

Or most game creators would be smarter to use Vulkan and still have access to PS4, Steam and Xbox fanbases as a whole.

rainslacker3000d ago

The exclusive war never included the PC though. PC has 40 odd years of games to build that category, and has no licensing fees, so can easily get plenty of games. I mean, why don't we say that mobile has the most exclusives? It actually dwarfs PC releases and hasn't been around as long.

We don't, because the exclusive war is between consoles. Even console gamers can accept that PC gets more games, and only the most delusional would say that it doesn't have more exclusives. Quality is subjective, and typically, never really mattered, because console gamers don't usually consider PC in their war.

Jojo19842999d ago

I have a pc ps4 n xb1 and the ps4 definitely has more good exclusibes. Nioh is another great game on ps4. Only reason i use my pc more i cus i have a mew vid card n its the only 1 of the 3 that plays 4k. The Ps4 is winning the exclusives war by a mile

TheKingKratos3001d ago

Lol yeah right, Sony is losing soo bad in exclusives that i barly play on my powerful pc and i only play on my ps4 for almost a year now since i bought it in may 2016.

IAmLoki3003d ago

Xbox has no exclusives as they are also on PC. With PlayAnywhere you can buy an Xbox One, a Scorpio, or your very own pc and play the same MS 1st party games. As with Sony, most PS4 exclusives are timed exclusive. PSNow offering PS4 games you can stream them anytime, anywhere, on a wide array of devices. With time more ps4 exclusives will become available on non PS4 platforms.

For MS and Sony, both have their share of great and bad games. MS has FH3, GeoW4, Sony has HZD and Nioh. The war on exclusives is just a war that will never end, nobody wins. Even by numbers of games worth playing, it is still down to opinion. Many console gamers only buy GTA, CoD and Sports.

Sciurus_vulgaris3003d ago (Edited 3003d ago )

One person on my friends, list has played nothing but Elder Scrolls online for almost 2 years.

IAmLoki3003d ago

Damn! That guy is really dedicated. Wait til Morrowind comes out.

ninsigma3001d ago

I still have psn friends playing Destiny. And they were playing it the whole year between TTK and previous one. Don't know how people do it.

LMFAO! "MS has FH3, GeoW4, Sony has HZD and Nioh"

I love how you just named 2 Sony exclusives that didn't exist last gen, then go on to name Forza and Gears Of War for MS.....

Funny.

Next gen you'll see them like "MS has FH3, GeoW4, Sony has Days Of Death and Dragon Slayer"

LOL!

Yup, Sony is just on the same level bro /s

Exari3000d ago

LOL. cant wait for days of death and dragon slayer.

remixx1163000d ago

Lol right, his post was hella fanboyish.

remixx1163000d ago

Why the way you undermine Sony's exclusives and then went on to say many are timed just shows how little you know about console gaming.

Disconnect your computer please.

PhoenixUp3003d ago

PS4 is starving of exclusives? Lmao u fail

All that really needs to be said, isn't it?

Thank you for using the term "region" since that was always what happened. The amount of media that used the term country led to many misinformed people.

According to SteamDB Statistics:
"The use of the word "subdivisions" below refers to states, provinces, regions and other categories."

"Totals
As of december 2017, there are 250 countries, 4024 subdivisions and 45261 cities in Steam's location data."
