The original article this references is overgeneralizing how modern games operate now. How many people unlocked every single cosmetic in Halo 5, Blops 3, Overwatch, etc.? The cosmetics are designed to keep players motivated to keep playing. The biggest difference with FH and the rest of those games however is the cosmetics aren't tied to loot boxes, so instead they have this ridiculous grind in place of it. It's identical to every other game on the market right now except it reverses the accepted practice of opening boxes for fluff and instead gear.

That's what the other games do too, except you'd be paying smaller amounts for more rolls at items. Whereas here its paying higher amounts for the direct item. You are also acting as if the cosmetics are required to enjoy the game, when they are actually just there to give a reason to keep playing without causing people to cry P2W (which people did anyway)

A good thing? If the items woupd be only cosmetic I wouldn't care if all the items cost 2000 bucks but they aren't just cosmetic. They come with better stats and for a full price multiplayer game to have microtransactions for better gear is plain stupid snd not a good idea.

But.....the article claims they are just cosmetic "fluff" that you are unlocking and that simply isn't true in For Honor.

Every piece of gear you unlock from loot boxes have specific stat modifiers like damage or defense buffs, buffs that allow you to reach your Revenge Mode faster, buffs that refill your stamina faster, etc. These give you a big advantage over other players and can make the game extremely unbalanced. I mean, its been complained about since the game launched.

Sure those stat boosts are turned off in One on One fights, so if you only play that then I suppose all the gear is cosmetic. But at the end of the day there are many more modes where those stat modifiers make a huge difference.

This guy said he only played the beta, so maybe everything was just cosmetic in that? I don't know. But if you're going to write an article about a game that has been out for a while, you should probably base it on the finished product, because everything this guy is basing his argument on is completely wrong and not true.

The gear isn't the problem when it comes to steel. That's relatively cheap and by the time you can actually get decent gear you'll have more than enough steel.

The real problem is the fact that the real cosmetic stuff, like emotes, effects, executions and the like are ridiculously overpriced.

I certainly don't think it should always 2 years of actual play to earn this stuff without paying.

However I do think microtransactions are a good thing. I've said it plenty of times before... game prices haven't risen for many generations even though we know costs have gone up. The reason is because of DLC. Without that games would be $70 or $80 at least.

So I'd rather have cosmetic crap for rich people to waste money on than higher game prices.

Yeah, or the games could cost $70, then we could wait a month, buy it for the same price as always and get everything. I would rather have a complete game that's actually fun.

At the end of the day, those extra $10 or $20 are far less valuable than the time I would waste grinding to get a thing in a video game. I'm willing to bet that would be the case for most adults, but it seems people lack the ability to look ahead.

I'm an adult with 3 kids. I certainly don't have time to waste grinding things like that, but the thing is I really don't care. No matter how much you try to justify paying to unlock things in retail priced games, it still not acceptable. Publishers and devs spend a lot of time trying convince gamers that it's a good thing. Unless it's a f2p game, then there is no reason for it, either than greed.

Sure you can grid for it, but why do I need to endless grid for something in a paid product? They make the grind so cleverly unbearable that people would rather spend money, so the option to grind to unlock is paper thin.

Now we have news that praise games that get announced with no microtransactions.

So many people trying to put down this game without any knowledge. You don't have to spend a single cent to get the best gear fast, all you have to do is reach Reputation 3, without wasting iron on useless gear on previous levels.

Then you have a chance of getting heroic gear drops after matches and 100% chance of getting heroic gear from chests, 1/3 in 300 and 400 iron chests and 2/5 in 500 iron chests, and others are random.

And to earn that iron and XP fast just complete daily orders, which give you around 3000 iron in 2 days + everything else you earn from other matches.

Also the article which stated that you have to spend $732 to get everything is completely irrelevent. That's purely because of cosmetics which have 0 impact on the game. They cost a lot while being completely useless just like in 90% of current multiplayer games.

To get all of those for a single hero you have to spend around 80k iron, for 12 heros that's 960k, which is much, much more than the ammount of iron you have to spend on gear.
