Yes, you need Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch even if you played on Wii U

Let’s paint a portrait: Nintendo sold 13.5 million Wii Us before sending the poor tablet controller out to pasture. It sold more than 8 million copies of Mario Kart 8 during that time, an astounding attach rate of 60 percent. If you happen to be one of the Wii U faithful, there’s also a very good chance that you’re the sort of Nintendo fan who was there on day one with Nintendo Switch. For everyone sitting at the center of this peculiar venn diagram, the question stands: if you purchased Mario Kart 8 just three years ago, do you really need to buy it again for Nintendo Switch? Based on an hour with both the classic races and the brand new battle mode at PAX East, there’s no question at all. If you have a Nintendo Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe should be an essential purchase.

Thankfully that 13 million number is relatively low...for Nintendo atleast, after all 30 million+ people bought mario kart on Wii

Sweet gonna get a Wii U game to play on my new Switch!

EddieNX 2592d ago

Its a perfect game though, the only flaw was the battle mode, which they've fixed. This is the best kart racer ever by miles.

CrimsonWing692592d ago

I think you're missing the point...

Nu2592d ago

Online battle mode should be fun as heaven

sold my wii u pretty early when i understood it was pretty much DOA and wouldnt be supported or barely supported, that said i really enjoyed my time with MK and DK Tropical freeze, im expecting to get a switch in late summer/fall pretty much only for MK and hopefully nintendo will have fixed their joycon problems when i pick it up to replace my ps vita (also, i hope to see the switch being completely be hacked at ths point, because i wont feel any remorse not spending money toward nintendo games since they never drop their prices and sell ovepriced stuff, yep, i totally assume what i just said, so downvote me nintendorks)

its more than just battle mode added to it.....its not like sony who did a whole bunch of remasters in the first year with leaving out parts of the game for example multiplayer feature was gone from games from ps3 going to ps4........

This on the other hand have new tracks, new battles, it let you hold more items like it did in the past and other new features.......its basically a new game even though it have same Mario Kart 8 number......this is nothing like ps4 remasters this is a worth it upgraded.....

even ign got a new article on how great this game is and how all the new stuff added make it a new game

http://www.ign.com/articles...

stop the trolling man, nintendo do remasters right and it plays in 60 frames with a extra player......Wii U had to stay at 30, all together it will be a better experience, if you do not want the game thats fine, but let others be and stay on your sony channel

browngamer412592d ago

I agree that it looks like they added some worthwhile content- the battle mode has me hyped, but why are you bringing up Sony? When you say crap like this it just makes the rest of us Nintendo fans look stupid, come on man try to stay on the topic of the article

They should offer a discount if you already own the game. With Microsoft doing Play Anywhere with their titles, Nintendo needs to get with the times instead of ripping their customers off every chance they get.

I played the Wii U version, granted not to death but even if I had, I would still be getting the Switch version... The game is just a lot of fun. I will be getting this on release.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on

The 7 Best Selling Switch Games of All Time

The Nintendo Switch has been an undeniable success for Nintendo, but which games make the best selling chart for the console?

GotGame81865d ago

Animal crossing came out the week the entire world shutdown. Yeah I bought it.

kevco3365d ago

Agreed. I think a lot of the AC: H sales have to do with early lockdown players!

I mean, I would've played it anyway. But I guess there's a lot of people who got into it because of the hype and their new found free time!

DivineHand12565d ago

Nintendo made out like bandits with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's the same game that was on the WiiU except they added 2 item boxes like in double dash.

kevco3365d ago

It's the Capcom method:

1. Add a new word to the end of the title and features that should've been expected first time around.
2. Charge full price for it.
3. Profit.

this is why i always say that Nintendo will always be fine. look at those numbers lol

and those are all first party games.
