The Worst Thing About PS4 Firmware Update 4.50

Push Square: "We can all probably agree that PlayStation 4 firmware update v4.50 is a good update: the external hard drive support is welcome, the custom wallpapers feature is nice to have, and the addition of Boost Mode is great if you're a PS4 Pro owner. But there's one thing about the update that I can't wrap my head around: the new Notifications Menu."

I still can't upload videos to YouTube on my ps4 pro it just keeps asking me to link accounts over and over again.. It's a joke that Sony needs to fix. Works fine on my original ps4 before I updated my system.

While i agree that Sammy and Pushsquare have become decidedly more anti Sony, i also agree that the new notifications is terrible. It was more organized and intelligent before. Overall 4.5 is superb though.

they took away the "mark all as read" option, and you can't remove them. that's why it's terrible.

It automatically marks all as read when you go to the Notifications screen...

I prefer that over the old method where I needed to go to each tab to get rid of the unread notifications icon...

are you sure about that? because in the old system when I selected that option, everything cleared, and I didn't have a massive list of stuff left in my notifications.

Yup, I think so too...

I also never deleted old notifications, waste of my time with the amount I receive, but I couldn't stand it to see unread ones, so I had to go to the old notifications screen and go to each tab and mark them all as read manually. Now they are all marked as read automatically once I go to the notifications screen. Plus now they are all listed together, no more need to switch to different tabs to find the one you're looking for (like Parties you can join are of course not in the list of Invitations, some Game Alerts read like they were Invitations, etc.).

I agree. The old design was more organised, there was no reason to change it. There was no reason to make notifications white either but they did it anyway.

Exactly. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. All of these extraneous modifications to the UI in firmware updates should only be included as optional customizations in the Settings Menu. The more choices and control that the user has, the better...

Yeah I was very confused when I went in first. I think this is the only UI change that Sony have made that I don't really like. Luckily it's not a massive deal as it is only the notification screen and you can still every ingredients split up if you wish but yeah, I did prefer the previous notifications layout personally.

works both ways. I don't care about the notifications it still does it job, as you can see other people feel the same way. Would I care if they changed it back though, not really because either way it I'm fine with. Notifications aren't really something I'm bothered about it's probably last on my list of priorities.

I totally agree with this. The notification list is a disorganized list of all random crap now and you gotta press more buttons and navigate separate menus to watch your active downloads. I don't like it at all, change it back!

Definitely. The active downloads thing really bugs me. But I am glad I can store my games on an external drive now. I ran out of room on the internal drive months ago.

I know this might be a a bit off topic but I just recently renewed my Plus membership (actually renewed it today), however there was a promotion going on this month where I would recieve 3 extra months of Plus if I got a 1 year membership this month. I checked my email and everything still did not recieve my extra 3 months. Has this happened to anyone or does anyone know what's going on?

I mean i get the point that it was more organized but at the same time other things other then notifications have improved a ton. If enough people find this to be an issue perhaps they will revert back to the old style for notifications or they will update it to an easier way.

Okay. Assuming that everyone who did like it are being quite is silly, there are probably people who said nothing who didn't like it either. Like I said, most of the feedback was negative and still is negative. You can't assume everyone who says nothing is happy.

If you like it then good for you. The people who didn't like it just asked for an option to use the old design, that option wouldn't affect you.

The new notification layout is the only thing I didn't like in this update but it's not the biggest deal. But it's nice to see a lot of people disagree with a decision Sony made and not be fanboys about it. Hopefully they change it back.

Honestly, This update is by far the best update the PS4 got since release and there's still some peoples trying to find a straw to pull.

That is a weird thing to be irked about. I get game update notifications and community updates and that's the most I use it for. I'm already starting to download digital purchase to my 3 TB external hard-drive and use the wall for posting trophies and screenshots and tips.

i can not delete the old notification still from people who sent them over a year ago
but can delete games download or updates clear fine.
