PS4 System Software Update 4.50 Out Tomorrow

John Koller of PS Blog writes " Our next major system software update for PS4, version 4.50 (codenamed Sasuke), rolls out tomorrow. We’ve already shared some of the key features last month, like external HDD support and custom wallpapers, but that wasn’t all this update has to offer. Custom wallpapers, nice! And boost mode is of course great for those who own a PS4 Pro.

No pro for me but i do like that I can put my old 3.5" 500gb seagate to good use. I was going to use it on the wiiu but that one has a 320gb and is fine the way it is.

So with this update, all 3 of my 8th gen systems will have expanded storage. Wiiu with 8gb internal / 320gb external, xb1 with 500gb internal / 500gb external and ps4 with 750gb internal / 500gb external.

Eventually cupofjoe... eventually. I'm just using what i have now before i go out and get something else. That 500gb will yield me another 10-12 games worth of installs (depending on game size). It's better than nothing.

my only question is the PS4 Pro Boost mode.

I mean can I just go to the settings and turn it on and leave it be.

I mean I could play a game that has a PS4 Pro patch like BF1 for a few hours and then turnaround and start playing Bloodborne or something.

So I guess my question is.. can I just set the PS4 Pro Boost Mode to ON just one time. or do I have to make the conscious effort to remember if the game has PS4 Pro support or not and only go into the settings and turn it on when I'm playing a non-Pro patched game.

I know the Boost Mode doesn't further benefit games that already have the PS4 Pro Patch. but could playing a game that has a Pro Patch while Boost Mode is turned on cause any problems?

boost mode doesn't affect/isn't applied to any game that already has a pro patch. there'd be no reason to turn off the feature, but you are able to in the system settings.

This update combined with PS4 Pro boost mode kind of makes PSVR look more attractive. I can't afford a 3D tv, but the PSVR's ability to watch 3D movies is really cool...

Does anyone know the format needed for the HDD. It doesnt have to be formatted does it and specific to the PS4? I have a 4tb plugged in already with video and stuff on it, I could just use that, unless I have to wipe it.

I have a 8TB that I had to format to exFAT for my PS4 to see it. I do believe Fat32 will also work but exFAT allows for larger file allocation sizes. I may have to do another format though since I used it to backup one PS4 so I could doa restore on my Pro so I wouldn't have to re download everything. Now I will have to take time out to transfer all my games to the HDD and start re downloading games I had deleted in the past.

It needs to be exFAT and then the PS4 will have to format it to be specific to the PS4. You can go on your PC and create a separate partition if you want and have the PS4 only format some of it.

I have been in the beta and went out and purchased a 8TB external HDD once I saw it was supported. Over 400 games later (ranging from disc installations and digital games) I have only filled up close to half. I still have tons of space left. Great update indeed. I no longer have to delete games I am not playing to make room.
