You can actually see the real time true reflections in Aloys eyes when you zoom in close.
I didn't even notice that. Wow the amount of details in this game is crazy. Amazing stuff
Alloy must have charmed Kojima san with those eyes.
The visuals in this game are thoroughly astounding. I really dont know how GG could pull off such a feat and in an open world too. Best visuals I have ever seen no lie. And the game behind it is great too! Horizon is that pivotal moment in gaming. I can only imagine how sick this looks in 4K.
@Sep It's the greatest new ip I've ever played while zelda botw is the greatest zelda game I've ever played and I freakin love zelda. Hopefully persona 5 will be the greatest jrpgs I've played, somethings gotta trump final Fantasy 9 for me.
@bouzebal but didnt manage to charm me :p...i still cant love (the theme /world /characters of) the game ...i ill play it for sure (as i play all good games ) but a lot later
^for anyone struggling to comprehend naruga's opinion of Horizon, he's also staunchly of the opinion that Resident Evil 7 is shit. LMFAO!!
Septic I see through your false praise.. . Beautiful game though yup, visually astounding
@ Septic You can only imagine what it looks like in 4K because it's not native anyways. That said, it does look phenominal, and is indeed one of the best looking games to ever grace a console. Edit: I was wrong about it appearing to be downgraded.
There are some nice little details in this thread if you want to follow: http://www.neogaf.com/forum...
LMAO @ your disagree! 😂
This is truly the best looking game I've ever seen. There is so much going on that it is hard to appreciate it all. I really love the game. The game follows the basic open world formula for sure. I got some flack for saying it is very much like a Ubisoft open world game, and at it's core, it is. But it's the best damn one I've seen. And the combat is really something else. There is so much more to it than just "shoot this robot a bunch of times until it dies. There are so many elemental types and weaknesses, weak points, and removable pieces of robots, etc... I think I have my robot notebook full of all the different kinds now, and it's hard to keep track of how to best fight each kind, there is so much variation between them all. I love this game.
I think I was one of the ones who initially gave you flack, sorry about that, I didn't know what I was talking about. This game is crazy, there's so much too it and it all looks so amazing. I'm like 12 hours in and I'm just now really starting to get into my groove with combat, it's so fast and fun with so many different tactics you can use, I love it.
Gotta be honest. GG do sure make the game looks pretty and detailed.
@GTgamer: Not only that, it also makes me wonder how other developers that make open world games can't make one with constant game performance like Horizon when they have lesser overall graphics *cough* Fallout 4! *cough*
well, to be honest that's nothing new. It's just the eye reflecting the cubemap, like any reflective surface. Pretty sure some games do this already. That said, Aloy still looks amazing. Definitely the best character rendering in an RPG so far.
Her animations are incredible. They really adapted the Naughty Dog Jak and Daxter movement very well. She changes her run when she is running up or down paths. Or when you are running fast and she runs off a little edge she does amazing little animations with her feet through the air to when she impacts (you know instead of randomly insta-dying like Geralt did in The Witcher 3 before they fixed it after 2 months). There are even Uncharted 3 levels of stuff going on too like when Aloy is doing an idle animation, like holding out he hands when it is raining and looking up, if you start walking during this, she continues to do the idle animation while starting her walking animation simultaneously. For me, its things like this that all come together to make a game get the high praise that it does, instead of the haters that will show up when it wins GOTY awards saying its "it doesn't deserve this praise, its just a crappy version of the witcher" without actually understanding a thing about the game's complexities.
The haters refuse to even compare it to the Witcher. They keep calling it a Far Cry knock off
Well I'm not sure what category I fall into, then. I'm certainly not a hater. I compared it to Far Cry. I mean, at it's core, the base game shares a lot with the basic Ubisoft formula. Saying that is not a negative statement. It's just a comparison. And I love Far Cry and most Ubisoft games for that matter, so I definitely do not mean it as a slight. Now, with that said, I love Horizon, and I would place it above most, if not all, of those games that it shares similarities with. The one area where it stands on it's own the most is the combat. You can look at a video and think it's just a 3rd person shooter, but there is a lot more to it than that, with all the different weapon and ammo types and all the different weaknesses the different machine types can have. It's really something special. As for comparisons to Witcher, I wouldn't compare the two, because I thought Witcher 3 was utter garbage, and this game is better in every possible way. I know I'm mostly alone in that opinion, but it is what it is. I thought it was an utterly lifeless and shallow experience for an RPG, with pretty graphics and nothing else. The combat was essentially the same from the beginning to the end. Horizon is a blast. I think I put almost 40 hours into it so far and I don't feel like I'm anywhere close to the end, and it's still fun and I'm still learning new combat tricks as I go.
I see it more like monster hunter.
Your point being ? What did I do to hate on the game ?
I've seen this in one other game that I can recall.. MLB 16 The Show... I noticed this the other day, acutally..
@Deep-throats Same goes with you.
Simply breathtaking. I've taken over 150 pictures so far. I'm addicted. Lol.
I bought a PS4 Pro and got HZD with it, spent all weekend simply enjoying the forests of Mother. The attention to detail is crazy.
I'm spending more time in Photo Mode than i probably should haha, definitely one of the best looking games ever. https://imgur.com/a/5RCSf
That picture is beautiful. Damn, have to pick up my photo taking skills now lol.
Those eyes though 👀
That is pretty awesome. Games have come a long way and it's a great time to be a gamer!
This type of detail really matter when you play the game???? Can you see that when you play the game? If it wasn't for this article would it be even relative? I'm not saying the game is bad or great. But real sit back and understand this type of detail doesn't matter. Did it help The Order 1886???? Again I'm not saying the game is bad. Let the hate continue...
It does to me and I'm sure it does to many others. I appreciate the game more knowing all the work the developers put into it.
I am asking an "Objective question" yet you answer "subjectively"... Good Job!
@Gedden actually u asked a subjective question. "This type of detail really matter when YOU play the game" objective would have been, does this level of detail enhance gameplay. when you ask about someone's own take on the level of detail you ae asking for a subjective answer
It may not matter when your actually playing the game, but for them to have added that little detail, speaks volume to their attention to detail in their games. I personally love the little details like this. It doesn't change how you play the game, it doesn't have a huge impact on anything, but just knowing its heir is very cool & for me, makes me even more impressed with overall visual quality that's been displayed in this game.
Thank you its doesn't matter. Thank you.
Yes, it did help The Order.
I noticed it in game.. I appreciated it. Just like I do the rest of the game's graphics. I was basically like WOW. Then I moved on. It's just cool, that's all... ; )
The question is why is this level of detail bothering you when detail graphics doesn't supposedly affect game play? Why do you have to ask the question? Who cares if the artists for the game decided to put extra care and detail into THEIR game...... Beside there are Plenty of people/consumers out there who do like and appreciate art the game artist put into THEIR game..... and sometimes game designers/creators/producers can offer additional fun game modes to goof around when extra attention to detail is added to a game. For instance, whoever thought photo mode could be so much fun in a game. Of course, how much fun one has in photo mode is subjective, but the fact that the artistry and detail combine with photo mode does provide the ability to have fun; that is not subjective.
If you think details don't matter, gedden, why don't you just sick to text adventures? Do you really need graphics to have fun with a game?
To think that fenomenal and detailed game with his full of life world and full of quests and discoveries is considered a 95 and a 720p Zelda game with lots of open and clean space with less quests is considered a 100. i have seen the 2 games and i can't understand where the guys take this perfection on zelda. They have not played Horizon honestly, moving Aloy around is seeing the beauty of the human body, she moves so perfectly, but link is like an anime uhhu.....
That's amazing and I'm not sure if it's her look, her voice or just a combination but Aloy is one of my favorite characters now!
Attention to detail is god tier
The details in Horizon and Uncharted 4 are just insane
Can't wait for this engine to be put to more use! I guess that's the advantage of making a game with 1 device in mind vs making one that will be universally compatible with tons of PC configuration or other consoles.
Never thought this game would look anywhere near as amazing as it does. Truly an amazing feat, and the first game i've ever actually taken screenshots of while playing. Incredible!
That is absolutely bonkers. Guerilla, you have outdone yourselves. Kudos.
Buying Horizon and Zelda together was a bad idea because each makes me wish the other were better. Which is sad because both are great. Playing Horizon makes me crave a next gen Nintendo console. Don't get me wrong the tablet is good, burn I wish they had released a powerful machine and then released the Switch as a followup of sorts to the DS. I want Zelda in 4k so damn badly! And playing Zelda makes me wish that Horizon has a bit more unexpected aspects. It's open world but linear in nature like you always know what you will be doing next. In Zelda ya have know damn idea what's coming lol. I gotta stick to one an finish, but each time I start playing I wanna play the other lol!
People blamed Watch Dogs visual downgrade on the hardware. They claimed the PS4 had peaked, that there was no hidden power left. Up to the release of Uncharted 4 people kept saying it would be downgraded, wouldn't be all that impressive, and yet it blew people away. So then people said that was just because Uncharted was a small scale game, and the PS4 couldn't handle amazing visuals in an open world. They said Horizon's demo was all smoke and mirrors, that the game would be massively downgraded. Well? Anyone else? Or can we finally start blaming the developers and not the hardware when their game releases looking like ass?
amen brother amen!
Watchdogs ? You mean that first party exclusive for the PS4 ? No, it was a third party multiplat open world. Sorry, but your comparison does not work. Is it just a coincidence that no multiplat even comes close to matching exclusive graphics on console ? What about CDPR ? Are they just incompetent as well ? Watchdogs was downgraded because of console hardware. That's just a fact. So was The Witcher 3, and possibly The Division (although it had all features mostly intact). They expected more than what the consoles ended up having, especially XBONE. Remember that, all these games are not made with PS4 as lowest common denominator. They are made with XBONE as lowest common denominator, which is significantly less powerful. Your exclusives look great, meanwhile, third party multiplats routinely look underwhelming on console. That's just how it is. You all know this - you know it makes a huge difference when a first party studio focuses on one machine. Then why do you turn around and say "See ? All those other developers were incompetent" "So then people said that was just because Uncharted was a small scale game, and the PS4 couldn't handle amazing visuals in an open world" And they're right in that Horizon doesn't look as good as Uncharted 4. That's to be expected, ofcourse. Horizon's visuals are still amazing no doubt.
Not looking as good as the best looking games on the system =/= looking like ass. CDPR aren't incompetent; Witcher 3 looks absolutely amazing. As for the multuplat vs exclusive comparison, of course exclusives tend to be the best looking games on a system. (Not always the case though. Crysis 2 and GTAV are arguably the best looking games on the 360) But it didn't stop people from prematurely judging games and forever claiming games like Uncharted 4 would be downgraded, that the hardware was weak, yadda yadda. When Watch Dogs released on PS4 it actually looked worse than GTAV on PS3 save a few details. That simply cannot be the fault of the hardware. I'm not saying I expect every developer to hit the top tier heights of games like Horizon, if anything, I'm very much a champion of the gameplay >>>> graphics mindset. But all generation long people have been downplaying what the PS4 is capable of, saying how weak it is, claiming just a year in that its peak had been reached etc. THOSE are the people I have issue with. Anyway, I can't wait for GTA 6 to come out as a multiplat and look better than Horizon. Will that prove a point?
Its kind of like in Uncharted 4, wherever you are and you take Nate's note book out, the background is whatever surface you're standing on. Looks really detailed too. Try doing it near running water.. Can't wait to get my copy of HZD!.. Next payday 😢
I so wish I had a 4K TV for this game. the 4k quality of it on youtube looks freaking amazing so imagine looking on a TV!
Wow. That is going above and beyond. Looking forward to diving into this when I get some time.
WOW! My wife even commented on the beauty of the game (and she could care less about gaming and graphics). She thought it was a movie and stated that it looked great. When I held the controller up she said wow. Truly stunning.
I don't have ultra HD yet :(, need 65" plus UHD TV yesterday!
Except snow smh I ran through all the snow and didn't get a bit on my shoes lol.
Oh guys u kidding me with all these screenshots!!! I've spent maybe 20 hours with hzd but I need to switch it on right now because of you ! :-P. The game is gorgeous!
want a great experience with this game? turn off all UI except health and weapons, set them to dynamic. Turn off the targeting cursor, getting hits are hard at first but if you practice on animals and can get close shots or hits you will have an easy times with the bots. don't use the map, instead just wonder the wilderness and come across unexpected enemies. I have about 20% of the main quests done and that was 2 days ago. I'll do the next main quest line when i stumble into it :)
That's a great idea when I get the game that's what I'm going to do too
I recommend you play with everything for a while. When you get a feel for the game take that leap and see how the game was meant to be played :)
Can't Imagine what Kojima are going to do with this. Its going to be something really really special. Best yet they are going to share it with GG so I can't Imagine what GG's next games is going to be like. What is even better is I am sure SM and ND are up to the task and will beat it. Sony first party are really something else.
I noticed this on day one! Look at my previous comments. I know I mentioned the eye details in a post a few days ago and said they were amazing OMFG or something like that.
It's not really reflections of the environment though it's mainly dynamic texturing based on the environment changes but still pretty impressive
What an amazing game. I am really surprised a new IP like this turned out to be a mega hit. It even surpassed Ucharted 4 launch numbers. No wonder Kojima fell in love with its engine.
Just think, this is GG's first game in this open world genre. I'm excited to see how they improve upon this a few years from now with a sequel. It'll probably be a PS5 launch title... Who knows. Either way, Horizon has been an enjoyable game up to the point I've played it so far.
Hands down, the absolute best looking game I have ever seen on a console. If you own a PS4 Pro you need to own this game. There's no excuse.
and lip sync issues. although I gotta say alloy eyes remind me of chibi eyes
I'm sorry but I just can't care about an HDRI mapped onto a sphere. If this game was toon shaded like Breath of the Wild or it had actually creative, weird art like Torment: Tides of Numenera I would be inclined to play it. Horizon looks like every other non nondescript realistic game from the past 11 years; if there are no robots on the screen I can't even tell the difference between it and something like far cry primal.
The game is without a doubt is jaw dropping gorgeous, I admit I find myself distracted some times, get lost taking screen shots and then realize I have a fantastic game I need to get back to playing. I know theres a Sawtooth around here somewhere needs killin'.
